How can I support fair trade? You are invited to find out why fair trade matters at the next GIG (Gesu InterGenerational Event) on Sunday, November 1 from 10:15-11:30 am in McAuley Hall. All ages are welcome to join us for a morning exploring fair trade and its vital connection to our lives as Catholics. We look forward to seeing you! Email Sadie Curtin with questions at scurtin. gesu@gmail.com. During the coming months you will notice a regular feature exploring the meaning of the phrase ‘in the Jesuit tradition.’ You have seen these words in our Parish Mission Statement etched above the central doors in the narthex, on the bulletin cover, inside the cover of the Parish Directory, and on our website. We will examine this overall theme as it relates to past and present aspects of Gesu parish life. A combined committee of Adult Spiritual Growth and Ignatian Identity will bring you this series of Jesuit morsels, including the life of St. Ignatius, Jesuit origins and history, elements of St. Ignatius teaching, and numerous facets of living ‘in the Jesuit tradition.’ Encyclical on the Environment In his encyclical on creation care, Pope Francis highlights “integral ecology” as the basis of the conversion we are all called to in order to save our common home from destruction. “Integral ecology” is the profound, fundamental interconnection between God, human beings, and all the rest of creation. With Pope Francis we pray, “Triune God… Give us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is.” As we reflect on our relationship to life-giving water, the air we breathe, and the ground we walk on, let us think of actions that we can take locally to protect the air, water and land for the generations to come. We might consider supporting legislative bills of our city, county or state that will serve to do this. 10th Grade Confirmation 2015-2016 Information regarding the complete Confirmation preparation schedule and registration form can be found online at: www.churchofthegesu.org/sacramental-preparation/. Freshen your Filter - Clean or replace dirty furnace filters. 3.Gather around the Hearth - Check fireplaces for soot or creosote build-up and hire a reputable chimney sweep. 4. Keep the humidifier humming - Clean the plates or pads to ensure efficient operation. 5. Head off gas problems - If you have gas-fired room heater, have it inspected by a pro. Also perform routine maintenance recommended by the maker. 6. Keep the wood fires burning brightly - Wood stoves are making a comeback. To avoid a deadly situation, be sure to inspect yours before firing it up. 7.Keep your family safe at home - A home safety check should be an annual ritual in every household. Test smoke and CO monitors. inspect (or install) fire extinguishers, review fire escape plans, and rid your home of old newspapers and other fire hazards. 8.
