Feast of All Souls
The Feast of All Souls is November 2 each year. We take
this opportunity to remember all those who have gone before
us in faith, and offer our support to all those who have lost
a loved one since the last commemoration of this feast.
We invite everyone to place a photograph of your loved
one on the communion rail in front of the baptismal font
beginning the weekend of October 31 (no sooner, please).
During the month of November, we hold them in our special
thoughts and prayers.

Christmas...in October?!
Pink Posse Collection
Not Quite. But it is time to put the
Christmas Spirit on our radar. Our
Annual Service Day is Saturday,
December 5 and registration forms
are now available. This year, we are
celebrating our 10th Annual Service

10 incredible years. Forms are available at the church
entrances and on our website. Please return them to the

Please join the Pink Posse (the Gesu Breast Cancer
Ministry) in their first ever collection of bras for the women
of Honduras. Undergarments are very expensive and difficult
to come by in third world countries and so we are gathering
for them. We will be hosting our collection until the end of
October. All sizes, styles, and colors are welcome. Donations
must be new and can be dropped off at the Parish Office.
Please join us in SUPPORTING this UPLIFTING endeavor.
Catholic Medical Association
Guest speakers Dr. Brian Burkey, Dr. Deborah Brindza and
Professor Andrew Trew will discuss “The Physician-Patient
Relationship: Clinical and Ethical Challenges” on October 20
in McAuley Hall from 7:30-9:00 pm. Health Care providers
are called to heal a wounded culture, attending to the whole
person of body, mind and spirit. There is a need to make a
proper diagnosis, know what our Catholic Church teaches
and present a ‘holy-istic’ treatment to those who are suffering.
CMA leaders will review various problems, their prevalence
and pervasiveness throughout our culture, the effects they
have on the health-related presentations to providers, and
discuss solutions to address these clinical manifestations.
Honduras Medical Brigade
Have you ever considered volunteering your time and
talents to serve the underserved? Both medical/dental and
non-medical folks are invited to participate in a Primary
Care Medical Brigade to Honduras from February 12-19.
These brigades are conducted with our partner organizations, Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos and the Honduran
Children’s Rescue Fund as well as the Fire Department
Brigade of Danli, Honduras. The first informational meeting
is Thursday, December 3 from 7:00-8:00 pm in McAuley Hall.

Fair Trade Matters
In the Jesuit Tradition
Have you ever wondered: What is fair trade? How does it
impact my life? Why should I care? How can I support fair
trade? You are invited to find out why fair trade matters at
the next GIG (Gesu InterGenerational Event) on Sunday,
November 1 from 10:15-11:30 am in McAuley Hall. All ages
are welcome to join us for a morning exploring fair trade and
its vital connection to our lives as Catholics. We look forward
to seeing you! Email Sadie Curtin with questions at scurtin.
gesu@gmail.com.
During the coming months you will notice
a regular feature exploring the meaning of
the phrase ‘in the Jesuit tradition.’ You have
seen these words in our Parish Mission
Statement etched above the central doors
in the narthex, on the bulletin cover, inside the cover of the
Parish Directory, and on our website. We will examine this
overall theme as it relates to past and present aspects of
Gesu parish life. A combined committee of Adult Spiritual
Growth and Ignatian Identity will bring you this series of
Jesuit morsels, including the life of St. Ignatius, Jesuit origins
and history, elements of St. Ignatius teaching, and numerous
facets of living ‘in the Jesuit tradition.’
Encyclical on the Environment
In his encyclical on creation care, Pope Francis highlights
“integral ecology” as the basis of the conversion we are all
called to in order to save our common home from destruction.
“Integral ecology” is the profound, fundamental interconnection between God, human beings, and all the rest of
creation. With Pope Francis we pray, “Triune God… Give
us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is.”
As we reflect on our relationship to life-giving water, the air
we breathe, and the ground we walk on, let us think of
actions that we can take locally to protect the air, water
and land for the generations to come. We might consider
supporting legislative bills of our city, county or state that
will serve to do this.

Things to do To Get Your Home Ready for Fall -PART II
1.Walk the Walks - Take the steps to repair damaged
sidewalks, driveways and steps.
2. Freshen your Filter - Clean or replace dirty furnace
filters.
3.Gather around the Hearth - Check fireplaces for soot or
creosote build-up and hire a reputable chimney sweep.
4. Keep the humidifier humming - Clean the plates or pads
to ensure efficient operation.
5. Head off gas problems - If you have gas-fired room
heater, have it inspected by a pro. Also perform routine
maintenance recommended by the maker.
6. Keep the wood fires burning brightly - Wood stoves are
making a comeback. To avoid a deadly situation, be sure to
inspect yours before firing it up.
7.Keep your family safe at home - A home safety check
should be an annual ritual in every household. Test smoke
and CO monitors. inspect (or install) fire extinguishers,
review fire escape plans, and rid your home of old
newspapers and other fire hazards.
8. Spend the Day - Rake leaves and make a big leaf pile
with your family (never drive through leaves in the streets).
