Silicon Valley Career Technical Education is a pathway for higher education and rewarding careers, where industry professionals use applied academics to teach the real-world relevance of math, science, English and technology. Each year, SVCTE supplies 11,500 students in six school districts in Santa Clara County with the skills to be graduates of colleges and universities, becoming entrepreneurs, business owners, high-wage workers and public service professionals. Why should you go to SVCTE? To discover what you love to do What if you don’t know what you want to be “when you grow up”? SVCTE helps you try on a career to see what’s best for you. And you get a leg up by learning skills from teachers who work in the fields they teach. In fact, SVCTE students are three times more likely to work in the field they’re studying—even while they’re still in high school. To learn how to love learning By taking relevant classes that connect academics to real-world solutions, SVCTE helps students learn they love to learn, stay interested in school, and go on to graduate. More than that, their teachers—real-life firefighters, chefs, lawyers, engineers and doctors—become valuable mentors for choosing and succeeding in careers. You’ll learn skills that are applicable to any job—working in teams, communicating clearly, planning projects, and meeting deadlines. Whether it’s welding, installing solar PV panels, saving trauma victims or being a dental hygienist, you’ll learn real skills that turn into real, high-paying jobs. FACT more high school students who take SVCTE classes go to college than “academic” students. To gain a competitive advantage for college admission Most students at SVCTE plan on attending college, and significantly more of our students go to college than students taking regular academic courses. For them, we offer several UC a-g approved courses as well as courses that are articulated to community colleges and not offered by high schools. Our academic subject matter is taught with relevance, rigor and real-world application. Our students’ educational experiences and career explorations give them competitive advantages both when applying for college and during their higher education careers. They earn college credits that give them a head start at community colleges and universities. Internships and professional mentorships give our students valuable experiences and resume-builders that make them stand out compared to other students. FACT more students taking SVCTE classes graduate from high school than those who don’t take CTE classes. What is SVCTE?
