Once you are logged into the Internet, just pick up the phone that is connected to the PC, dial the number and start talking for free. And remember, VoSKY™ supports "PC-to-phone" telephone calls through SkypeOut™ Service. You can use the Internet to call your friends and family all over the world with a great deal of savings. (This section is similar to Introduction. When dialing over the Internet, you can make PC-to-Phone calls. Feature It's Easy to Use The VoSKY allows you to place calls over the Internet using your regular phone. Once your computer is connected to the Internet, simply pick up the receiver and dial, or enter the number via your computer. No Special Setting or Configuration for Firewall/NAT Skype is quick and easy to install. Just download the free program Skype and register online. Then plug in VoSKY to a regular phone, within a few minutes, you can call your friends free over the whole world. The calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secured with end-to-end encryption. You don’t even need to reconfigure your firewall or router. It works effortlessly with great performance. No External Power Required VoSKY™ is powered by the USB port of your PC. Therefore, you do not need to have an additional power adapter for your USB VoIP devices. Easily Switch Between Analog and Internet Phone Mode The VoSKY uses patent-pending technology, the 'mini-Switch'. If you wish to accept a phone call while talking to someone on an Internet call, simply press the # key twice to place the Internet conversation on hold. Then, when you finish with the analog phone call, simply press # twice to switch back to the Internet call. With VoSKY you may freely switch back and forth between Internet phone calls and Analog phone calls. This mini-Switch requires one phone line and one DSL, cable, or ISDN connection to the Internet. If you have installed Skype™ on your system and are familiar with using Skype™, you can skip this section and go to Section Installing the VoSKY™ Hardware. If you have not installed Skype™ yet or are unfamiliar with using Skype™, please read this Section. 1. To learn about Skype™, please visit http://www.skype.com 2. You can download Skype™ from Skype™ official website: http://www.skype.com 3. After downloading Skype™, install Skype™ according to the instructions appearing on your PC screen. P.6 VoSKY User’s Manual 4. Create a Skype™ Account (new users). 5. Add your contacts (the Skype™ accounts of your family and friends). P. 7 VoSKY User’s Manual 6. Right click on a contact name, and select “Assign Speed-Dial”. Assigning speed-dial is required for using the VoSKY™. P.8 VoSKY User’s Manual 7. P. 9 VoSKY User’s Manual P.10 VoSKY User’s Manual Installing the VoSKY™ Hardware The pictures below show the Front and Rear Views of the VoSKY™. Front View Rear View Connect the USB and RJ-11 cables to the USB port and RJ-11 jack as shown in the Rear Panel. VoSKY™ Network Architecture The pictures below present the network architecture formed by VoSKY™ and PSTN (PBX). The Single Line Mode is on the top and the Dual Line Mode is on the bottom. P. 11 VoSKY User’s Manual Single Line Mode Dual Line Mode Single-Line Mode refers to VoSKY™ that connects to PC and Phone directly. It is for use in environments that do not require or without using PSTN (PBX). If you need to connect to a PTSN (PBX), you will need to use the Dual-Line Mode. Dual-Line Mode allows you to: (1) Switch between traditional(A-Phone) and internet(I-Phone) phones; (2) Use the speed-dial feature of Skype™ and receive calls with Skype™ with a traditional phone; and (3) Skip the earphone and microphone. P.12 As it is the favorable mode of most VoSKY™ users, this manual will focus on the application of the Dual-Line Mode of VoSKY™. If you are using a Single-Line Mode deployment or want to understand more about these two modes, see Troubleshooting for details. VoSKY User’s Manual Line Port Switch If you only want to use VoSKY to make Internet calls (not traditional phone calls), skip this section. If you don't use ADSL for your Internet connection or if your ADSL line and VoSKY line are different(config. 3), connect a phone cable from VoSKY line port to the RJ11 in the wall. Otherwise, you must insert a micro filter between the VoSKY line port and RJ11 in the wall as illustrated in the picture(config.1, 2). You can use either config.1 or config.2 for inserting the micro filter. P. 13 VoSKY User’s Manual Installing the VoSKY™ Software Installing the VoSKY™ Drivers and application When your system automatically detects VoSKY™ after it is connected to a PC with a USB cable, the following dialog box will pop up. Windows New hardware Wizard will pop up a message as the following. Select the ”No, not this time” radio box and click the “Next” button. Put the Installation CD in the CD-ROM and follow the instructions displayed on the screen to install VoSKY™ drivers and application as shown below: P.14 VoSKY User’s Manual Select “Install the software automatically (Recommended).” Press Next> button, the following window will appear. Click “Continue Anyway” button. When the drivers and application are successfully installed on your system, the following window will appear. Press Finish button to end VoSKY™ software installation. After clicking Finish, the following window will pop up to confirm your installation. P. 15 VoSKY User’s Manual When finished installing VoSKY, the following window will show up to ask you for your email address for future online updatesPlease enter your email address to proceed. Example: name@domian.com After clicking Next, the following window will pop up to show you the instructions of using Skype with VoSKY. You may scroll down this window for more information. After clicking Finish, you can locate the VoSKY icon on your desktop as the following diagram. P.16 VoSKY User’s Manual Using the VoSKY™ Checklist Before making a Skype™ call with the VoSKY™, make sure your answer is Yes to the following questions. (1) Does your system meet the minimum system requirements stated in Section Read This First? (2) Is your Internet connection on? (3) Do you have a Skype™ account and have added the contacts in your Skype™ account? (See Section Installing Free Skype™ Software for details) (4) Is the VoSKY™ connected to your PC via the USB port? (5) Is a phone connected to the VoSKY™ via the Phone jack? (6) If you choose to use a dual-line connection, is a telephone line connected to the Line/Modem port? (7) Have the VoSKY™ drivers and software been successfully installed on your PC? (See Sections Installing VoSKY™ Software for details) Setting Up Speed-Dial With the speed-dial feature of Skype™, you can make an I-Phone call by dialing the speed-dial code without using either the mouse or the keyboard. The following examples will show you how to assign a speed dial code to a Skype™ account and how to make and receive I-Phone calls with the VoSKY™. The local Skype™ account (local party) is “jie4713”, and the remote Skype™ account (remote party) is “Yvonne”. As shown below, the remote party “Yvonne” has been added to the Skype™ contact list. Move the cursor to “Yvonne” and right click. When the pull-down menu below pops up, P. 17 VoSKY User’s Manual select Assign Speed-Dial. When the following screen pops up, enter the speed dial key for “Yvonne” in the box. Then click the OK button. Now you should see the number “2” added to the field after “Yvonne” as shown below. Making a PC-to-PC Call Usage Example: Calling “Yvonne” Pick up the receiver and press “#” key twice, you will hear a long dial tone (about 1 second) and I-Phone indicator on the VoSKY™ flashes. Dial “2” and the following speed-dial window will appear on the screen. P.18 VoSKY User’s Manual Skype will display "2" in the left-bottom corner in Skype window. It is the speed-dial key assigned for “Yvonne” in Skype. Shortly the following Skype™ window will appear. Note: The A-Phone indicator (green) on the VoSKY™ will illuminate when you pick up the receiver. After pressing “#” key twice, the I-Phone indictor will illuminate and the A-Phone indicator will go off. P. 19 VoSKY User’s Manual Receiving a Call Usage Example: “jie4713” receives a call from “Yvonne”. When the remote party “Yvonne” places a call to “jie4713”: (1) The phone connected to VoSKY™ will ring. (2) The I-Phone indicator on VoSKY™ will flash. (3) Skype™ will be activated and the following window will appear. (4) Pick up the receiver to answer the call. If the A-Phone indicator is on when a Skype™ call comes in, press the “#” key twice to answer the call. The Skype™ window has a timer displaying the duration of the call as shown in the window below. P.20 VoSKY User’s Manual Hanging Up To end a call, just put the receiver back onto the phone. Switching between A-Phone and I-Phone Modes If you have dual-line connection on your Sky-Dialer, press “#” key twice to switch between the A-Phone and the I-Phone modes. Call Waiting Alert Call-Waiting features work only in the dual-line mode. If someone is calling you on the A-Phone line while you are answering a Skype™ phone call, you’ll hear a short beep on the phone. Press the “#” key twice to answer the A-Phone call. To go back to the I-Phone conversation, press the “#” key twice again. If you ignore the call-waiting beeps and the 3rd person is still on the A-Phone line when you hang up an I-Phone call, your phone will ring to remind you of the 2nd call. Pick up the receiver and answer the call. Both features above also apply when you are an A-Phone call and someone calls you using the Skype™. Making a PC-to-Phone Call (SkypeOut™ service) If you have subscribed to the SkypeOut™ service, with the VoSKY™ you can make a call anywhere in the world when the person you are calling is not connected to the Internet. 1) For Single-Line mode, pick up the receiver and you will hear the dial tone of the VoSKY™ Or For Dual-Line mode, pick up the receiver and press “#” key twice. VoSKY User’s Manual Troubleshooting How do I know that VoSKY™ is successfully installed? Hardware: Go to Start > Setting> Control Panel> System> Click Hardware> Click Device Manager to check if VoSKY™ is successfully installed. The following screen will appear. Software: Go to Start> Program> VoSKY™ to check if VoSKY™ appears on your computer. When I pick up the phone, why can’t I hear dial tone? For Single Line Mode: 1. Please check to see if the Skype that you are using is the most updated version. If not, please go to www.skype.com for download. 2. Please check to see if the VoSKY™ software is properly installed. 3. Please check to see if the USB cable is properly connected between VoSKY™ and your computer. 4. Please check to see if your phone is connected to the phone port of VoSKY™. 5. Please check to see if the software is properly installed and activated. If not, please activate by going to START> PROGRAM FILES> VOSKY™> click on VoSKY™ to active the application. For Dual Line Mode: 1. Please press the “#” key twice to switch back to A-Phone. P. 23 VoSKY User’s Manual My VoSKY™ is activated but I still can’t hear the dial tone. 1. Please check to see if the phone is connected the VoSKY™ hardware. 2. Please check to see if the USB cable is connected between VoSKY™ and your computer. 3. Please close VoSKY™ and Skype and relaunch VoSKY™ again. When I am using Skype, the conversation volume is low. How do I turn it up? START> SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA>go into AUDIO to adjust the volume When I am in a conversation, the sound becomes unclear and noisy. START> SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA>go into AUDIO to turn down the volume. I already installed uninstall VoSKY™, but I cannot reinstall it. Restart your computer then run the VoSKY™ application again. When I try to call a contact, I get busy tone. 1. Make sure that you have assigned a speed dial number for the contact. refer Setting Up Speed-Dial under Using the VoSKY™. 2. Please check to see if your contact is on line. Please When I try to make a SkypeOut call, I get busy tone. 1. Make sure that you are dialing number using the following format: 00+Country Code+Area Code+ Phone Number or Cellular Phone Number 2. Make sure that you have subscribed to SkypeOut service and have sufficient balance to make outgoing calls. When there is an incoming call, the phone does not ring. 1. Make sure that your ringer switch (if you have one) is turn on. 2. Make sure your phone is connected to VoSKY™. 3. Make sure the phone that you are using is up to today’s standard. If using an old version or a low quality phone, Skype calls may not go through successfully. P.24 VoSKY User’s Manual I cannot start my laptop when I plug VoSKY™ in it. 1. 2. Go into your BIOS setting. Disable “Legacy USB”. When I unplug the USB cable of VoSKY™, my computer cannot recongnize VoSKY™’s hardware. 1. Plug the USB cable back to where you originally unplug the USB cable. 2. Reinstall the software of VoSKY™. Doing so will eliminate having this problem in the future. How do I know if I am on I-Phone Mode or A-Phone Mode? 1. A-Phone: 2. I-Phone: The VoSKY™ icon on the Start Menu bar will turn gray. (See below) The VoSKY™ icon on the Start Menu bar will turn green. When using VoSKY™ with Skype™, you will not need to purchase extra accessories such as headsets or microphones. One can simply use a traditional phone set to connect with Skype™, which is both convenient and economic. In addition, VoSKY™ is equipped with audible alert to inform you of any incoming calls at all times. So even if you are away from your PC, one can still check the Skype™ log to view all unanswered calls when he/she returns. What types of phone does VoSKY™ support? VoSKY™ supports all kinds of traditional analog phones, answering machines and cordless phones. Can I use VoSKY™ with digital phones? Sorry, VoSKY™ currently supports only analog phones. How do I check if I am connected to Skype™ correctly? P.26 VoSKY User’s Manual For Single-line mode: The I-Phone indicator on VoSKY™ should be illuminated when you pick up the receiver. For Dual-Line mode: The A-Phone indicator on VoSKY™ should be illuminated when you pick up the receiver. Press the “#” key twice (on the phone) and check if the I-Phone indicator on VoSKY™ illuminates. Press the “#” key twice on the indicators on VoSKY™ to switch from I-Phone to A-Phone. If indicators illuminate in respective modes, it means you have correctly connected VoSKY™. Does VoSKY™ support the “redial” key on the phone? Yes, VoSKY™ supports this function. However, you must make sure the memory function of your phone supports redial to prevent calling to a wrong number. VoSKY™ and Skype™ cannot respond immediately when I pick up the receiver to make a callIt happens when there is inadequate system resource (when you are running multiple programs at the same time). Shut down programs that consume large system resources and try again. Does Skype support speed dial on cellular phones or regular phones? No. Speed dial function of Skype only supports PC-to-PC calls and Skype-to-Skype calls. I cannot hear any dial tone when using VoSKY™. Please check the following: Hardware: (1) Check if the USB cable has been properly connected to VoSKY™ and the PC. (2) Check if the phone line has been properly connected to the Line/Modem jack. (3) Check if the phone has been connected to the Phone jack. Software: (1) Check if VoSKY™ has been successfully activated Does Skype support speed dial on cellular phones or regular phones? No. Speed dial function of Skype only supports PC-to-PC calls and Skype-to-Skype calls. Why does this screen keep showing up after restarting my computer? P. 27 VoSKY User’s Manual This screen will show up every time you upgrade your Skype or reinstall the application of VoSKY. Please click on either “Allow this program to use Skype” or “Allow this program to use Skype, but ask again in the future” to finish upgrade or installation.
