April 2015 Sitzmark - Schussbaumer Ski Club
Sitzmark In This Issue: - Presidents Message - VPs Message - Evening in Havana - Chicken Race - Event Calendar - Anniversaries - Birthdays - Membership Matrix - Board of Directors - Please Remember Official Newsletter of the Schussbaumer Ski Club, Breckenridge Colorado Well, we are winding down another good ski season which has been filled with good snow, great food and wonderful friends. I want to take a minute and thank all the members that have been up at the club cooking, joking around, and most of all just having plain ole fun. I know the club has truly enriched my life and has allowed me a lifestyle I most likely otherwise could not have afforded. For all these reasons I have decided to put my efforts in again this year by continuing Presidency of the club. We have a wonderful board lined up this year and I'm sure we will see a great future planned out for us as we continue to improve the chalet. President’s Message from Scott Dyer This year we had an inaugural taco party hosted by Jean Markowski that was fabulous, and Judy always knocks it out of the park with her Cuban party. Thank you. As well Melanie Boynton, Maria DeFilippo, and Scott Ribe put on an amazing Chicken race. As we move towards the end of the season we have NCAA March Madness Sat April 4, Italian Dinner April 11th, and Sausage fest April 18th closing weekend. Please consider coming out to these events as they are always a lot of fun. On a sad note we will not be seeing as much of two of our life timers as they are venturing out and making a move to Maine. Ron and Nancy Comeau have been members of the club for over two decades now and have done a tremendous amount to make the club as special as it is today. They will still be making trips up to the club periodically but they will be missed by all. Please come out to Italian dinner as we will be acknowledging them for all that they are. Last note, I will be sending out a reminder for the April 21st budget meeting along with all the disclosed bylaw recommendations and capital project announcements. As well, we are working on an R & R budget schedule that we have planned out for the next 25yrs. The bylaws only require us to look at the next 5yrs but we want to be able to foresee any major $$ items that may need replacing in the years to come. All this will be presented at the April meeting. So come join us and be a part of the big picture. APRI L 2015 Scott Dyer, Pres. Vice President’s Message We got it good that’s for sure. The snow continues to hold up pretty well, the skiing is still pretty good and if that’s not enough there is something going on (party) every weekend this month at the Schuss. Life would be perfect if I could get y’all to comply with just a few minor things … Don’t leave the front door open Leaving entrance doors open is prohibited. It’s ok to use the block to keep the front door open while you are unloading your car but you need to remove it as soon as you are done. If we continue to see a problem with this, the block will be removed and no one will be able to unload his or her car using the block. We have also seen people taping the 2nd floor door open so that their guests (who don’t have key fobs) could get in and out of the building. This is expressly forbidden and could get you in serious trouble. Limit what you store in the Dining Room Try to limit what you store in the dining room as space is very limited and it’s difficult to clear when the club is putting on a dinner. Of course, Boots and Skis need to be stored there. But if you can store any other items in your car or your room it would help out a lot. Don’t sleep on couches You should sleep on a bed not on the couches in the party room. I know this sounds like I’m stating the obvious but it seems like a lot of people have been doing this lately. The couches are not really designed to be slept on, they are for sitting on. If you have signed into a room (you have to sign in if you stay the night) then that’s where you should be sleeping. There are of course some obvious exceptions to this rule such as when you arrive at the chalet really late and don’t want to wake anyone up or if the situation in your room is really intolerable and you can’t sleep. Responsibility for your guests Take responsibility for you guests. Again this seems like stating the obvious but your guests should be on their best behavior when they visit the club and you are in charge of seeing to this. It is also your responsibility to get your guests signed in properly with all payments made before they take over a bunk. You should be listed on the bottom of the sign-in sheet as their guest. If possible you should try to get your guests all into the same room with you (not distributed throughout all the rooms in the chalet on the lower bunks). I would like to congratulate Rae Lynn Platt and Todd Young on their upcoming wedding. They are two terrific people and should make a great couple. Wish them luck next time you see them. I also want to welcome our new board members: Mike Forney - Treasurer Andy Skuntz - Chalet Manager Phil Eves - Building Coordinator Julie Glenn - New Member Coordinator Karen Bowen - Communications Coordinator Gail Martin - Social Coordinator Your V.P. , T.K. It doesn’t matter if the food is in one of the fridges or on the shelves. If there is any question please contact a board member. 2. If the dishwasher is running do not drop your plates in the sink and leave - you MUST hand wash your dishes. 3. Don’t put wine glasses in the dishwasher, they break. 4. The front door can be blocked open only while you unload. When you are finished the door needs to be closed. 5. Leave your dorm room nicer than you found it. If you checked into a hotel room to find sheets thrown and blankets crumpled up you’d be upset. Don’t do it at the Club. There is no maid service here. Do it yourself please.
