March 3, 2014
Lent is the time when Christians prepare for the greatest feast, Easter. During this time we try to follow the example of Jesus in the desert.
In Pope Francis’ Lenten message for 2014, he “takes inspiration from the words of St. Paul (Cor 8:9) and asks us to
contemplate Paul's invitation to live ‘a life of evangelical poverty."
“We can begin to embrace this call by fasting from or "giving up" material things, including foods, that are superfluous to our basic needs; "taking up" charitable habits that are directed to helping and caring for others; and "lifting
up" our brothers and sisters who are in need through giving alms, praying and participating in devotional practices.”

No Kid Hungry Campaign Launched in Middle School
UA Middle School Eighth Grade
No Kid Hungry is a national campaign to end child hunger in America, and eighth graders Natalie Onesi and Alexis Oakley have brought
it to Ursuline. Their presentation to the Middle School on February
28, 2014, brought awareness of the hunger epidemic that is threatening America's future and preventing children from reaching their full
potential. They encouraged their classmates to sign the No Kid Hungry pledge and to participate in the dress down day benefiting this
cause. A special thank you goes out to all the eighth graders, who
wrote letters to our state representatives asking for support for this
cause. Way to live the Serviam motto!
