April quotes from the wonderful children of Noah’s Ark: ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! “When my mom sees this she is going to blow away!” “I want to sit by Chase my friend!” “I don’t have pirate booty...I have vegetables.” “Is _____ here yet!” Kids ask for each other every day. They have become close friends! “This rock has a crystal in it” “My grandfather found this nest...it’s an oriole nest!” “I have SCIENCE!” “Is the Science table OPEN?” “Is the LOFT open?” “These are my walking feet!” :These shells really look like boats...and noses!” “These shells were every where on the beach!” “A really old shell has holes in it!” I have a cookie bar for a snack.” The child tells us his Grandma is an excellent cook: “We make a good team!” We have AWESOME conversations!! GREAT April BOOKS from the Noah’s Ark Library: “Are You A Horse?”, by A Rash “Falling for Rapunzel”, by L Wilcox “The Three Little Fish, and the Big Bad Shark”, by K Geist “Earth Day Every Day”, by L Bullard “Jesus & His Friends”, an I can read book “Bee and Me” , by E McGuinness “Pete the Cat Big Easter Adventure”, by K Dean “Shoo Fly Guy”, by T Arnold “Let’s Help the Earth”, by Sesame Street I heard on the news the other day, that libraries are busy with families checking our books. So good to hear, as it one of the best things you can do with children! ! What a child hears, they learn to say. What they say, they learn to write. What they write they learn to read! Safety Update From the desk of Ms “C” April was a wonderful month around our building. Big events, including Easter and Mary Schoenknecht’s retirement Sunday were celebrated with much gusto. During busy days like these past few weeks, Don, our custodian, is all over our building “taking care of business”! We also have added a young man, Matt, to our custodial staff. He is in the building beginning at 3:30 on some days. The Noah’s Ark children are already gone when he arrives. We will also be adding 3 new people to our Children’s Ministry staff, replacing Mary Schoenknecht, when she retires at the end of May. These 3 new people: Kristy, Julie, and Alicia, will be here often during May, and working out of the Children’s Ministry office with me. Mary will keep her office in the main office until she retires. More info about these new staff appears in this newsletter. Read all about them, and stop in and say hi!! Come check out rennovated space! This past Tuesday, Feed My People held their area leaders’ workshop in the Trinity Room. The FMP staff directed all “traffic” away from the Noah’s Ark hallway. It was quiet and peaceful all day! Hugs, JC 4 Noah’s Ark wishes Mary Schoenknecht a happy retirement!! OUTSIDE ALL DAY Outside Day On Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16, the children of Noah’s Ark will spend the day outside in or near our playground. We’ll have lots of “outside art”, special playground fun, a car wash, and much more. Please send your children in old clothes and shoes. PLUS, remember to send them with sun screen, hats, and sunglasses. We’ll even enjoy a our snack outside and have a picnic! After 31 + years as Children’s Ministry Director at Trinity, Mary will retire at the end of May. Her passion for children and their faith journey has been a very familiar one around here. We have been blessed by her partnership, and forever changed by her mentoring! 2014-2015 Noah’s Ark Registration Registration for 2014-2015 is OPEN to the public. Please tell your friends. The leadership teams are writing curriculum right now...and the weeks promise to be GREAT fun! Tell your friends! 5 www.loveandlogic.com byDr. Charles Fay Nine year old Ethan was afraid to leave home. The school bus was terrifying, other kids were scary. Ethan was even fearful of the wind! Ethan’s story came to my attention when his parents shared their wonderful success story. AS they began to learn more about the Love and Logic approach, they realized that children learn most of life’s big and important lessons in three ways...what we often refer to as the “Three E’s of Love and Logic”: Example: Kids take their emotional cues from the adults around them. Ethan’s mom and dad discovered that their anxiety about his anxiety was part of the problem. They realized that all of their reassuring words were actually suggesting to Ethan that his fears were legitimate. Therefore, they replaced their frantic attempts to calm him with consistently modeled confidence and a business-like attitude. Experience: Ethan needed to face his fears and experience the fact that he was strong enough to cope. Rather than allowing him to stay inside when it was breezy, Mom and Dad took him the park and drank hot chocolate together in the wind. Instead of allowing him to avoid other kids and the school bus, they taught him how to share his comic books with other children on the bus. Empathy W e all learn best when we’re around patient people who demonstrate love and high expectations. Unlike sympathy...which communicates pity....empathy communicates an “I believe in you!” attitude. W hen Ethan became fearful and tried to avoid things by saying, “I’m scared!” or “I can’t do it!”, his parents calmly replied, “Aren’t you glad that we don’t believe that about you?” remember this eternal truth: Fear can only be mastered by facing it... not by avoiding it!
