Along with that we have enjoyed some warmer days and I hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine when it peaks out! During the past year we have welcomed seven new support staff. In this issue some of them have agreed to share a little bit about themselves, so you can get to know them a little better. A big thank you to each of them! Keep in touch this summer I plan on having one newsletter per quarter, so it will be awhile before the next one comes out. Please keep me updated on the things you would like to share with the ONUSA family. If you have suggestions or ideas, I’d love to hear about them! I’m only in one small corner of ONU, so I really need to hear from YOU! Send your info to jking@onu.edu. I hope all of you have a safe and wonderful summer! ONUSA would like to thank Lori Goldsmith for serving two years as president. Lori accomplished many things during those two years. Among them are the name change of ONUSA from Ohio Northern University Secretarial Association to Ohio Northern University Support Staff Association; offering a selection of ONUSA dress shirts; she was the brains behind the Deal or No Deal luncheon; with the assistance of Lena Smith, brought back the ONUSA website; boosted the scholarship fund with a fundraiser using Sherry Murino’s idea of raffling a plush Klondike; she was also behind getting more volunteers to assist Hardin County families with Christmas gifts. Thank you Lori ...we appreciate all you’ve done for ONUSA! Thank you Lori G.! Page 1 - ONUSA Newsletter—May 2009 Aundrea Fricke...Outgoing and Busy Aundrea Fricke joined ONU in May 2008 as an advanced purchasing assistant. A graduate of Elida High School, she had been an office manager for Tom Ahl Buick Body Shop and prior to that worked in accounts payable and accounts receivable for Tom Ahl Chrysler. Aundrea was already familiar with ONU by attending camps here when she was younger. She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce. They have two children, Riley (7) and Jenna (3). She enjoys camping and spending time with friends. Aundrea says, “I enjoy all the people at ONU, including the students who make coming to work enjoyable.” If Aundrea has a day off totally devoted to doing whatever she chose she would spend the day with her kids (with no running around doing errands) and staying at home. Mindy Nungester...Christian, Quirky, Fun-loving Mindy Nungester is a senior career services specialist, coming to ONU in June 2008. A graduate of Rhodes State College, she holds an associate degree in computer information systems. Prior to coming to ONU, she was enrollment management systems analyst at Rhodes State College and administrative assistant to the pastor of Union Chapel Missionary Church. Mindy grew up in the Bath Wildcat country. She was accepted by ONU’s music program and was impressed with our top-notch university and exceptional reputation. Mindy’s loves to play board and card games and also likes to cross-stitch and read. She likes Mary Higgins Clark mysteries and romantic comedies. One of her favorite authors of romance novels is Jude Deveraux. One dislike are movies that make her cry (why pay money to be miserable???) She also loves her home and spending time there. This June she and her husband, Paul, will have been married 27 years. Their oldest son, Stephen (25) is a student at OSU. Bradley (23) is in the army, stationed in Fort Hood, TX. Caitlin (20) is an ONU junior. She has also inherited her sister’s 4 children, Amy (18) a senior at Allen East, Alan (16) a freshman at AE, and twins, Hollie and Hayley (11) 4th graders at AE. Mindy says, “If I had a day off to do whatever I chose, I would be sitting on a warm beach somewhere watching the ocean and my family playing in the sand.” The best part about working at ONU is the sense of accomplishment she gets by helping the staff provide career support services to students and alum. What is a special skill Mindy possesses? She can touch her nose with her tongue! Page 2 - ONUSA Newsletter—May 2009 Beth Buist...Easy-going, Curious, Friendly Beth Buist began in the law college as an advanced administrative assistant in August 2008 (mornings) and then became the Honors Program advanced administrative assistant in September (afternoons). Beth has significant experience as an executive assistant and legal assistant at firms in Miami, Florida. She has a bachelor's degree from Bluffton College and a MLS from the University of Kentucky. Beth has returned to the Bluffton area after over 30 years in South Florida. Beth grew up all over Michigan and Ohio, and has returned to her old stomping grounds looking for some- thing different from working in a law office and she found that here in the ONU law college! Beth reads like an insane person—usually 12 to 15 books a month! Her favorite books are mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, romance (especially paranormal), history, and books on religion by Biblical scholars. She also enjoys knitting, counted cross-stitch, gardening and loves to try new recipes. Beth’s perfect day would start by working in the garden a couple of hours early in the morning, followed by shopping at a big bookstore with money to spend and then coming home and reading those books! W h a t does Beth like best about working at ONU? “I really like the people I work with at both the law school and in the Honors Program; I enjoy being around the “kids”; the setting is beautiful and close to home; and the work ain’t too bad.” Beth’s special talent is baking up a mean chocolate chip cookie! Heidi Leek...Determined, Jokester, Romantic Heidi Leek joined ONU as an advanced administrative assistant in the president’s office in September 2008. Born in McKee’s Rock, PA, she grew up in the Northern Kentucky/ Cincinnati area. She attended Northern Kentucky University and before coming to ONU, she was a customer service representative with Power Line Supply Company. Prior to that, she worked with William Vaughn Company in Maumee, Ohio, and United Medical Resources Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio. Heidi is a big movie buff! She also loves just about every sport! From the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, Pitt, to the Cavs...oh and Ryan Newman! She reads many different authors and books, but mostly enjoys romance novels. “I love working with Sharon and Dr. Baker. Page 3 - ONUSA Newsletter—May 2009 They are wonderful!” says Heidi. She met her husband, Scott, on a blind date in 1996 (a set-up by a coworker). They will be married 12 years this September. About how she plans to spend retirement, Sherry says, “Jim and I would like to take some day trips, work in our yard, and enjoy our dog Beau.” Both of their children are ONU graduates.
