TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational
needs of Physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses,
basic scientists, residents/fellows, technologists and allied
health professionals working in the field of thrombosis and
hemostasis.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be better
able to:
•
Develop an appropriate treatment plan to manage
patients on newer direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC),
including how to switch between different oral
anticoagulants.
•
Identify how to measure the anticoagulant effect
of DOACs, and how and when to reverse their
anticoagulant effect.
•
Assess patients to efficiently diagnose deep vein
thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in
both the adult and pediatric populations.
•
Develop an appropriate treatment plan for patients with
subsegmental PE and calf DVT.
•
Identify the nuances of treating superficial vein
thrombosis.
•
Initiate thrombolytic therapy in the proper situation for
both adult and pediatric patients .
•
Discuss how to treat massive DVT and PE.
•
Describe when it is appropriate to utilize IVC filters.
•
Summarize the current diagnostic and treatment
options related to abnormal bleeding in the adolescent,
reproductive and postmenopausal periods of life.
•
Discuss the preferred prevention and treatment
paradigms for massive obstetric hemorrhage in the
presence or absence of known inherited bleeding
disorders.
•
Compare the novel hemostatic agents for the care of
hemophilia.
•
Develop appropriate treatment plans to manage women
with bleeding disorders.
•
Demonstrate how to conduct common hemostasis
consults.
•
Apply an algorithmic approach in diagnosing platelet
secretion defects.
•
Discuss platelet function in regards to platelet factor 4
and the immune system.
