What is Community Education?
Community Education offers a structured, effective way to respond to the challenge to improve public
education because it expands the school's traditional role and creates a mutually interdependent relationship
among home, school, and community. Community Education believes in lifelong learning opportunities
(birth to senior citizens), community involvement in schools, and the betterment of individuals and families.

Headstart
"Head Start programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. They engage parents in their children's learning and help
them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant
emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of local Head Start programs". For children 3 & 4 years old.

Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a program that serves children who are FOUR years
of age on or before September 1st of the 2015-16 school year. This program is LOW COST or
FREE to qualified families.
The GSRP program is funded by the Michigan Department of Education to serve children who
present risks of becoming educationally delayed. This pre-school program addresses risk factors
present for the student and family while establishing a sound educational foundation.

SKIP to a Great Start
(Successful Kids=Involved Parents)
A free school readiness program for any Genesee County family with children prenatal to age 5
with emphasis on supporting parents as their child’s first teacher. SKIP focuses on parent involvement through parent/child playgroups and interactive home visits using the Parent as Teachers
(PAT) Curriculum.

Kids' Connection
The purpose of Kids’ Connection is to provide a safe, nurturing, quality childcare program for children in
grades K-5. Children in the Carman-Ainsworth school district are invited to join us for a school year filled
with fun and excitement! There are a variety of stimulating, age appropriate activities that children participate in daily. These activities will include arts/crafts, science, music, dramatic plays, cooking, outdoor play,
and more. All activities are planned and will be supervised by a professional staff! The program is registered
with the State of Michigan. Kids’ Connection is a self-supporting program and pre-registration is required.
The pre-registration fee is $25 per child or $35 per family.

Parents are billed by fifteen minute intervals after the first hour. Late fees will be assessed for children that
are picked up after the 6:00 PM closing. Kids’ Connection uses a prepayment system. Please estimate the
amount of time that your child will need childcare for the week and pay in advance based on your estimate.

Bendle Tiger Kid's Club
Kindergarten through 5th Grade Before and Afterschool Childcare
Tiger Kid's Club provides a stable and nurturing environment resulting in better social, emotional and
psychological well-being while parents are working. Students receive homework help, a healthy snack
and take part in age appropriate activities such as recreational outdoor play, computers, Wii, arts &
crafts, board games and special holiday projects.
Where:West Bendle Elementary (South Bendle students are bussed before and after school).
When: Monday-Friday (School days only-some exceptions apply).
Times: 6:30 AM until school begins and after school until 6:00 PM.
Cost: $30 a week for one child
$45 a week for two children
$65 a week for three children
Pre-registration is required (Registration fee $20 per child and $30 per family). Forms can be picked
up onsite at West Bendle Latch Key building or in the community education office at Bendle Middle
School.

Our Karate program combines two crucial courses
into one, Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and
Project Secure Child (child safety). Students will be
trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that
are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun, yet structured,
environment which will give your child a positive
outlook on learning a martial art. We focus on
healthy attitudes versus perfection! Participants will
be led through strategies, drills and exercises. This
is an ongoing course where students have the opportunity to continue their education in the same location with no hidden fees!

Dog Obedience
Learn the basic techniques for making your dog a part
of your family "pack". Fido will learn his place in the
family, what rules he must follow, what behaviors are
acceptable and basic commands used for the proper
result. Owner will learn communication between
dogs and humans, dominant/submissive structure
of the "pack", reward-based training techniques and
how to correct Fido's misbehavior.
Bring proof of dog's current vaccination status to first
class. Dogs are required to be on a flea preventative;
have proper collars (no choke-chain or pinch collars);

class start date. Make checks payable to Community Education and mail to:

You may use Visa, MasterCard, or American Express
Class Cancellation: If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, every effort will be made to notify
all registered students by telephone. Please include alternate phone numbers on your registration
form. Refund checks will automatically be processed for canceled classes.
Refunds: We reserve the right to cancel a class if the minimum enrollment cannot be met. You
will be notified and your money refunded. Participants must withdraw from a class of five sessions or longer within one (1) business day after the first class. No Refund on all one day or mini
session classes (2-4 sessions in length).
A $5.00 fee will be charged for all withdrawals, except canceled classes.
A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks.
Senior Citizens: You may use your Gold Card on classes marked with "gold card accepted" in
the description of the class and receive 20% off the price of the class (Gold Cards are for Bendle
or Carman-Ainsworth residents only).
School Closings: If the Bendle or the Carman-Ainsworth Schools are canceled for any reason,
all Community Education programs at that district(s) will be canceled also.
Pre-Registration is Required
All Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth courses are open for anyone to attend.
You do not need to live in the districts.
