Structure of the Day A day visit consists of 3 - 4 activities, with a break for lunch. A pre-visit is recommended to discuss objectives and plan your visit. Bring your teddies for a wonderful woodland adventure, that includes sensory exploration, a lost teddy hunt, teddy bear dens and of course a picnic! Duration: 1 day Available: All year • Look closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change Woodland Mural, Leaf Collages • Build and construct with a wide range of objects, selecting appropriate resources and adapting their work where necessary Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Suzy Spider, Home for an Animal, Woodland Magic, Boglin Homes, Natural Mobiles • Select the tools and techniques they need to shape, assemble and join materials they are using Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Home for an Animal, Woodland Magic, Boglin Homes, Natural Mobiles • Find out about the environment, and talk about those features they like and dislike ALL Physical Development Earthwalks A variety of sensory activities appropriate to the season, which help younger children to explore the natural world. Duration: 40 minutes Available: All year Suzy Spider Follow Suzy Spider’s story trail around the woodland collecting natural objects along the way. Children use the collected items to create their own woven spider’s web. Use magnifiers and bug pots to have a closer look and simple keys to find out their names. Duration: 45 minutes -1 hour Available: All year Woodland Mural Communication, Language and Literacy • Extend their vocabulary, exploring meanings and sounds of new words As a whole class create a 30ft mural of the woodland using leaves to print trees. Children mix their own shade of green to give wonderful variety to the painting. Duration: 45 minutes Available: All year Boglins Woodland Magic Some strange creatures live in our woods, including the magical boglins. Using clay and natural materials, children make their very own woodland boglin that they can take home at the end of the day. Children use natural and craft materials to create crowns and wands fit for the finest witches and wizards. The activity finishes with a parade and casting of spells. Duration: 45 minutes Available: All year Duration: 45 minutes Available: All year Home for an Animal Boglin Homes Working in groups children build a home for a toy woodland animal, helping them to understand the needs of living things. The activity finishes with a tour of the animal homes (and photos of course!). Following on from the ‘Boglins’ activity, children can create woodland homes for their newly made creatures. Duration: 1 hour Available: All year Duration: 30 minutes Available: All year Natural Mobiles Children use gathered materials to create a natural mobile to decorate a classroom or bedroom. The Trees are Alive! We all know that trees are living, but did you know that they have faces? Look close enough and you’ll see… During this activity children explore the woodland to find the hidden tree faces and use clay to have a go at making their own. You can book a tour of the Falconry, which includes a flying display, as part of your visit. There is an additional group charge for this activity. Duration: 1 hour Available: March-Sept only
