This included identifying indigenous Chinese existential psychologies, such as Zhi Mian Therapy developed by Xuefu Wang, and bringing them into dialogue with Western existential approaches. The conference was organized by Louis Hoffman, Mark Yang, and Xuefu Wang, and included keynotes by Kirk Schneider, Xuefu Wang, Erik Craig, Ilene Serlin, & Ed Mendelowitz. The conference explored the role of consciousness in shaping all human interactions across the globe. Dr. Friedman is the Senior Editor of the International Journal of Transpersonal Studies, which seeks to synthesize! psychology, spirituality, and philosophy among other studies to uncover the deepest truths of human nature.! Her work combines neuroscience findings and the study of phenomenology to create an integrated understanding of the physical workings of the brain and the subjective mind. 12!&%##,<%0A&$#076%&+!500 !"#$% A couple being trained by Dr. Judy Kuriansky, in ancient tantra practice originated in the East and recently popular in the West.! Exercises hone energy to achieve high states of enlightenment and ecstasy, respect and tolerance. Workshops to heal individuals, couples and conflicting cultures have been adapted for the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. A ceremony of the Chumash, a Native American Indian tribe of coastal California, is re-enacted in California at the Sacred Earth Foundation created by Dr. Juliet RhodeBrown to honor the ancient wisdom of the traditions of! indigenous cultures of the East and the West. Together, the two founded the Institute for the Person Centered Approach (IACP), an international organization that pioneered this form of Rogerian psychotherapy. In this method, the therapist undertakes a collaborative style, partnering with the patient to achieve deep personal growth. The IACP performs research and training involving Client Centered Therapy that emphasizes the importance of an “unconditional positive regard” between therapist and patient.! In addition, the IACP has collaborations and affiliations with numerous mental health institutions including the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labor Office (ILO), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), so that the IACP is now a global force in the advancement of humanistic psychology. ! Buddhist Psychology Dr. Alan Pope performs inquiry into Buddhist principles, such as compassion and forgiveness , in order to expand the practice of psychology to one of spiritual transformation. His studies and practice of Tibetan Buddhism have taken him to India, Nepal, and Vietnam. Dr. Ilene Serlin (Front right) leads a dance called “Peace Train” with a group of Israelis. She has done a great deal of work with people affected by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including war widows and their children, focusing on dance therapy to promote post-traumatic growth. Expressive arts therapy harnesses the power of the mind-body connection to encourage healing through movement. Dr. Serlin also presented a workshop on dance therapy in Nanjing, China following on the First International Conference on Existential Psychology.
