Keeping you up-to-date with the latest OBEIKAN news
Words from the Marketing Director
In my words for every newsletter, I choose a subject or event or
character to address at. In this issue, knowing that most of you just
rejoined after enjoyable summer vacation, I preferred to charge
and energize you with few lines to look attentively at. Most likely
from time to time we all need dosages of serenity.
Imagine if trees gave off wifi signals, accordingly we would be
planting so many trees and we would probably save the plant too.
Well, its too bad they only produce OXYGEN we BREATHE!! We are
very good LAWYERS for our own mistakes but very good JUDGES
for the mistakes of others, so stop and revise. When you learn how
much you’re WORTH, you’ll stop giving people DISCOUNT.
I wish you great success in accomplishing your budgets, targets
and objectives. Remember always our values and power of our
integrated solutions.

The outcomes of the workshop were
broken down to two separate Lean Six
Sigma workshops to have more focus on
the key areas of improvement. And two
teams were formed at OGC to work on their
respective Lean Six Sigma project.
The team then made an extensive work
though the DMAIC methodology to define
the scope of improvement, quatify it,
then analyze it thought the fish bone
methodology of problem solving process,
charted down the immediate actions,
followed by root cause actions and a time

the root cause of the issues.
The interesting part of the whole workshop
is the quantification of the current losses

Obeikan Graphic Center explores the
horizons of Lean Six Sigma. OGC was
associated in a Kaizen workshop of its
customer (an OIG company), organized
by Obeikan Knowledge Academy along
with its consulting partners for the
implementation of Lean at OIG. The results
of the Kaizen workshop showed scope for
improvements in OGC’s production and
quality processes.

the quantification of the gains (losses
avoided) through the action points by the
end of the project.
The outcome of the project: The outcome
of the project was not just outstanding, but
also astounding. Time Saved was around
300 hours per year. Quality improvements
were by the reduction of 8 NCR’s a year.
And finally the Cost savings reflected at SR
125,000 a year.
Lean Six Sigma is a managerial concept
combining lean manufacturing/lean
enterprise and Six Sigma that results
in the elimination of the eight kinds of
waste (muda): defects, overproduction,
waiting, non-utilized talent, transportation,
inventory, motion, extra-processing
(abbreviated as “DOWNTIME”).
The Lean Six Sigma concepts were first
published in a book titled Lean Six Sigma:
Combining Six Sigma with Lean Speed by
Michael George and Robert Lawrence Jr. in
2002. Lean Six Sigma utilizes the DMAIC
phases similar to that of Six Sigma. The
Lean Six Sigma projects comprise the
Lean’s waste elimination projects and the
Six Sigma projects based on the critical to
quality characteristics. The DMAIC toolkit

of Lean Six Sigma comprises all the Lean
and Six Sigma tools. The training for Lean
Six Sigma is provided through the belt
based training system similar to that of Six
Sigma. The belt personnel are designated
as white belts, yellow belts, green belts,
black belts and master black belts, similar
to karate.
OGC has set a wonderful example, on
the implementation of Lean Six Sigma
and has also demonstrated the fact that
“there would be more focus if you break
down a problem into smaller issues and
give ownership to multiple small groups
to focus and come up with the resolution
both in short term as well as long term
basis. The time, quality and cost savings are
part of the projects that were handled and
are shown to emphasize the outcome of
the Lean Six Sigma implementation.
To implement Lean Six Sigma at your
respective business unit, you or your
respective associates may contact OKA.
OGC will also be happy to provide insights
if you wish to.
Let us all go on diet through the Lean Six
Sigma way!
