In a secluded valley in Iceland, Gummi and Kiddi live side by side. Their ancestral sheepstock is considered one of the country's best and the two brothers are frequently awarded
for their prized rams. Although they share the land, Gummi and Kiddi have not spoken to
each other in four decades. When a lethal disease suddenly infects Kiddi's sheep, the
entire valley comes under threat. The authorities decide to cull all the animals in the area
to contain the outbreak. This is a near death sentence for the farmers, whose sheep are
their main source of income, and many abandon their land. Buteach brother tries to stave
off the disaster in his own fashion: Kiddi by using his rifle and Gummi by using his wits. As
the authorities close in, the brothers need to come together to save the special breed
passed down for generations, and themselves, from extinction.

The film follows three comic-dramatic stories set in Mumbai. The first one is about a
middle-aged man who wins the office 'Fun Committee Award', which entitles him to a
whole day full of fun. He is most reluctant to leave the safety of his cubicle but he has to.
Prescribed fun modules have to be completed and non-compliance is not an option. The
second story is of a domineering pater familias Anil, who is on life support. Seeking some
relief, his family decides to buy a TV, which Anil had banned; now every night the family
plugs into a popular soap whose hero is an 'ideal' man. The third one centres on Aarti
whose repetitive existence is slowly making her feel mechanical and numb. Deep inside
ferments a disconnect and unease that she can't articulate to anyone. Then one day there
arrives a most intimate letter and everything changes.
Director’s Biography
Ruchika Oberoi is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India.
Island City is her debut feature film. The script of Island City participated
in the NFDC Screenwriters' Lab 2012, which was held in Venice alongside
the Venice Film Festival, and Goa, alongside the Film Bazaar.

The documentary was the result of the days Salles spent in the north of China, filming
where Jia (in Chinese surnames are given first) was born and made his first features. It
portrays the life and the creative process of the film-maker, while at the same time
examining the close relationship between memory and cinema. In the film, Jia invites
Salles and his crew to discover aspects of his personal history and the sources of his
inspiration, as well as some of the individuals who appear in his films. To do so, he returns
to places where he lived and filmed Xiao Wu (aka Pickpocket), Platform, The World, 24
City, Still Life and A Touch of Sin.
Director’s Biography
Director/writer Walter Salles Jr. spearheaded the return of Brazilian
cinema to international prominence in the latter half of the 1990s,
particularly with his 'Central Station' (1998). Salles was raised in France
and United States before permanently returning to Brazil. Too young to
have been part of Brazil's Cinema Novo in 1960s and 1970s, Salles
entered Brazilian film industry as an award-winning documentary filmmaker during the industry's 1980s/early-'90s decline. After he moved to
fiction with the thriller 'Exposure' (1991). Salles' feature career was
stalled by Brazil's disastrous economic freeze in the first half of the
1990s.

'Cowboys' is a comedy based on a Croatian hit theatre play. It is a story of eight outsiders
who are trying to create a theatre play while breaking every rule of theatre craft. Genrewise 'Cowboys' is between social drama and comedy. It emphasizes clear stories and
functionally profiled characters. The story takes place in a little industrial town, small and
claustrophobic enough to make life in it impossible, and yet big and diverse enough to
make the story and the characters convincing.
