How quickly time has flown this autumn! Here we are, starting our annual preparation for Christmas, even though the television ads for Christmas began a month ago. How do we reconcile these two worlds? How can our Advent spiritual preparation acknowledge and even benefit from the Christmas frenzy around us? Maybe it is the alarm bell that we need to hear, to alert us to the coming of our Lord. OUR WEEKLY COLLECTION Our Sunday offering for the weekend of November 23 was $11,523. Thank you for your generous offering. May your love and sacrifices be greatly rewarded. QUESTION OF THE WEEK First Sunday of Advent Week of November 30, 2014 Theme: Active waiting. Question for Adults: When you’re getting ready to receive a guest, what are some things you do? How do you apply this to receiving Christ? Question for Children: What special things do you do to get ready for a visitor at your house? What things can you do like that to get ready for Jesus? HELPING HANDS COLLECTION There will be a second collection this weekend to support the Helping Hands ministry. This group works throughout the year to feed the hungry in our community. Please be generous as we remember last weekend’s Gospel call to serve Jesus through “the least brothers of mine.” ADVENT BOOKS This year’s Advent booklets are now available in the Narthex. These can be very helpful in enriching your spiritual journey through this Advent season. Please leave a $1 donation to cover the cost of the booklets. THANK YOU FOR FLOWERS Thank you to the Simpson family, who donated flowers for our Thanksgiving Day Mass. We appreciate your contribution to the beauty of our worship space. CHRISTMAS PROJECTS 2014 “GIVE A GIFT” St. Joseph’s Christmas projects are beginning this weekend. Look in the narthex for the following opportunities to help others in the community: • Christmas Dinner Gift Envelopes with a request for monetary donation to help feed the hungry in our community during Christmas. TWEET FROM POPE FRANCIS When we meet a person truly in need, do we see the face of God? “‘Be watchful! Be alert!’” Mark 13:33 NOTRE DAME SCHOOL NEWS RENT-A-SANTA The Notre Dame School choir will be performing at Merriment on Main Tuesday, December 2 at 7:20 p.m.! FLOWERS IN CHAPEL DISCERNMENT RETREAT Please do not leave flowers or potted plants in the chapel or blessed sacrament room because they can damage the carpet. This year, the discernment retreat at St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park will be held from January 1618, 2015. Participants must be a single male, 21 years or older, and sponsored by a parish priest or the diocesan vocation director. There is no cost to attend, and attendance does not imply further commitment or obligation. If you are interested, please contact one of our parish priests. This retreat may provide insight into a vocation, and assist in responding to God’s call. BE AWARE Recently there have been a number of car break-ins in Vacaville.
