Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time — September 28, 2014
REFLECTION
FAITH FORMATION
Gathered today in the Holy Spirit, we will hear Saint Paul
tell us to have in us “the same attitude that is also in Christ
Jesus.” This is a recurring theme of Pope Francis as well.
Sometimes God’s Word comforts us, sometimes it challenges us. Let us pray to hear the challenge today and pray
for the grace to change in response to it.
All Faith Formation classes begin this Wednesday, October 1. Please meet at the church during your child's designated class time. Any questions, contact Josephine or call
the office.
OUR WEEKLY COLLECTION
Our Sunday offering for the weekend of September 21
was $10,483. Thank you for your generous offering. May
your love and sacrifices be greatly rewarded.
There will be a second collection this weekend to support the Faith Formation program. Donations will go to
cover the costs of the program as well as to provide additional training and workshops for our volunteer teachers.
Please be generous.
ADULT CHOIR
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Week of September 28, 2014
Theme:
It’s not enough to merely say you
believe. You must also live your faith. .
Question for Adults: How and when were you like each of
the sons in the Gospel?
Question for Children: How do you show your love for Jesus by doing what he asks, even when it is difficult for you?
PRIESTS RETIREMENT COLLECTION
Thank you for your generosity in last week’s collection for
the Diocesan Priests Retirement Fund. Together we collected $2,927, which will go to support priests in our diocese who have spent their lives caring for the needs of
their parishioners.
MASS OF ANOINTING
On SATURDAY, OCT 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. we will celebrate
an Anointing Mass for all who are suffering from an ailment or undergoing medical treatments, as well as the frail
elderly. Volunteers are needed to help with the transportation needs, greet and seat at the Mass or set-up/clean-up
for the luncheon. Sign-ups will be held after all Masses this
weekend, SEPT 28, 2014.
Anyone in need of transportation to this Mass should call
the Parish Office by Monday, September 29 at 447-2354 or
sign up after Masses on Sept. 27 & 28. We will do all we
can to assist you with your transportation needs.
CRAB FEED
Looking for volunteers to help organize next year’s Crab
Feed. If interested, please talk to Fr. Mathew.
Our adult choirs are looking for more male singers to
help us prepare our Christmas music. Rehearsals are
Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 in the Church. Please talk to
Brian if you think you might be interested.
HOSPITALITY EVENT
Please join us after the 7:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, September 28, for the monthly Hospitality event to
be held in the Meeting Room to welcome all new parishioners to the St. Joseph community and to answer any
questions they might have. We also ask that all current St.
Joseph parishioners participate in the welcoming and fellowship. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
BIBLE STUDY WITH FR. VINCENT
Chapter 14 of 1 Cor has much to say about worship. Would
St. Paul countenance worship in a language that participants did not understand? Apparently some in the Corinthian community understood “speaking in tongues” as
the supreme gift. Paul challenges this notion and emphasizes again that all gifts are to be used to edify and promote the building up of the Body. This chapter could easily move us to discuss worship in the contemporary
Church and how Vatican II laid the foundation for a renewal of the liturgical life of our Church. Bible study with
Fr. Vincent continues on Tuesday, September 30 at 7:00
p.m. in PCMR#3.
ALPHA PREGNANCY BANQUET
Join the Alpha Pregnancy Center for their Annual Banquet this Friday, October 3 at Pippo Ranch in Vacaville.

meal. Seats are free, but reservations are required. To
reserve your seat call (707) 449-8996 or online at
