The King George Inn
The King George Inn
The King George Inn in Port Colborne
is located downtown in the old Post
Office, 239 King Street.
Over the course of history the
building has been used for many
purposes: City Hall, Council
Chambers, police station, jail, and
courtroom.
The hotel retains
a unique historic
ambience by
incorporating
its past into
the hotel. What
used to be
postal vaults and
holding cells are
now features
in some of the sixteen individually
themed suites, the
restaurant, and conference centre
which comprise the hotel.
Other suites have nautical or
heritage themes. Your stay in
Port Colborne will be special, an
experience that simply cannot be
duplicated anywhere else.
On the north
shore of Lake
Erie, Port
Colborne is
one of the
gems of
the Niagara
Region: Rich
in history but
full of life, a
tranquil spot with lots to offer. From
Antique Shops to Arenas (we have 2)
and a 200 berth marina.
Themed suites include...
The Judges Chamber
The Postmaster General
The Bankers Vault
The Mayors Suite
Conveniently located on highway 3
only 20 minutes west of Fort Erie &
the Peace Bridge
to Buffalo and the
USA, 30 minutes
from Niagara Falls,
Port Colborne is
a landmark city
with a wealth of
heritage.
The King George
is yards from the
Heritage Museum,
market square and
West Street, home of Canal Days
and the Tall Ships races.
Clarence Street Bridge marks the
entrance to the Welland Canal which
links Lake Erie to Lake Ontario
and the St. Lawrence Seaway: You
can watch the Lakers as they pass
through one of the longest locks
in the world, Lock Eight, from your
room, or from our patio.

how does this grab you?
as far as St. Catharines, Welland
and Niagara Falls. Getting off road
this way is one of the nicest ways
to view the region.
For the ultimate thrill you can hire
all the equipment you need to fly
over the Falls at Niagara.

Lake Erie itself is one of Port
Colbornes’ most prized assets. As
well as miles of sandy beaches and
excellent fishing we have some of
the best fish restaurants in Niagara.
Did we mention our 200 berth,
International Marina?
For motor
enthusiasts, we
have a stock
racing arena
and oval dirt
track at the
Humberstone
Speedway.
Those who like their entertainment
a little more rugged can always
take to the trails and use our
various off roading facilities for
dirt bikes and quads.
Speaking of bikes, Port Colborne
has over 100 km of established
cycle trails linking through to the
whole Niagara Peninsula ranging
The home of pleasure craft, yachts
and a lively Racing Club, Sugarloaf
and Marlon Marinas become
the centre of activity for locals
and tourists alike for most of the
summer.
During the winter months, the lake
itself freezes over ro provide the
most spectacular ice rink anywhere.
You want fun? Look no further.
...in Port Colborne
...it will take you longer to decide what to do than it will to get there!
If you would rather go for
something more conventional, we
understand. So would we!
Golf is a more popular way to
relax and we have that in
abundance too. Within 20 minutes
of these doors are 4 courses, all
offering exceptional links and
facilities. Whisky Run and Port
Colborne Country Club are both
excellent as well as being the two
nearest but if you go further afield
you can happily spend two weeks
playing all the courses in the area.
Those looking for a more sedate
and relaxed way to spend your
time may take advantage of our
many fine civic
amenities such
as the Roselawn
Centre for the
Arts, Library and
Showboat Theatre.
Alternatively, our Heritage
Museum chronicles the City from
Founding to the present. There is a
lot about Port Colborne which may
surprise you.
Browsing shelves is a fun way to
spend a couple of hours and we
have several antique shops, and
lots of little back street places filled
with curios, cameos and clothing.
We have a Market Square which
brings fresh produce and goods
from across the region every friday.
As the entrance to the famous
Welland Canal, we are known in
the Niagara Region as the Gate
of Navigation. From here the
Lakers depart to the USA and
here they arrive before going on
to Lake Ontario, Toronto and the
St. Lawrence seaway. Everything
comes through this canal, from
personal craft to ocean going
‘oilers’. It is a truly dramatic sight
the first time you witness the
Clarence Street Bridge lift an entire
section of road 100 feet above an
oncoming ship, yards from your
window here at the King George.
The most obvious attraction to
visitors to our area is of course
Niagara Falls, only thirty minutes
from here by car or cab.
With the Falls themselves, two
casinos and 24/7, 365 days a year
entertainment there is too much
happening to detail here.
Which could be a problem.
It’s a real party town and that can
just be too much for some.
With us, you set your own pace.
The falls are close enough for
a night out, but you’re not kept
awake by the party next door.
We love the Falls, it’s a fantastic
and unique place to visit and we
go there every couple of months.
But for some true Canadian
hospitality we are glad to come
home to Port Colborne.
We hope you will, too.

239 King Street Port Colborne, was
originally the city Post Office.
The original vaults are still part of
the building. There is one on each
floor. On the top floor it is now a
bathroom in The Bankers Vault
and, in the restaurant, one is now a
small, intimate Dining Room.
On the lower level the vault is now
a Media Room with a computer for
those who need use of a machine.
Several years after the original
construction, the rear of the
building was modified and
extended for use as a police station.
The holding cells used at the time
are now incoroprated into the lower
level of the building, in what is
now the Banquet and Conference
Centre. The lower levels are
separate from the main bar area on
the ground floor, ensuring privacy
and uninterrupted peace during
functions and social events.
In the 1950’s the City of Port
Colborne bought the building and
enlarged it to house all the City
Staff and the Council Chambers,
which also functioned as a
Courtroom. Many of the rooms
in the King George Inn reflect
the various uses the building has
been put to since it was built: The
Judges Chamber, The Postmaster
General, The Bankers Vault and
The Mayors Suite.
