Seattle Outboard Association PIT PREVIEWS Celebrating 87 years of Bringing Boat Racing to the Pacific Northwest June 2016 Sun and fun both shine at Kenmore The annual Sammamish Slough show was run in sunny weather and turned out a variety of race boats to entertain spectators from Kenmore’s 68th St Bridge to Log Boom Park. Pictured below, Drew Thompson giving Steve Greaves’ Hot-Rod motor a good gallop. Below, Aaron Salmon and Nicole Dunlap double up in a Formula-E Rubabout to put on a show for the spectators. Meeting Minutes 26 April 26/16 Activity Reports: Stock: Matt Yarno and Ron Magnuson outlined Hinton Stock Mod Nationals – Tuesday they are planning a history & “Taste of Regions” night. If anyone going would like to bring something tasty, please coordinate with Matt or Ron. Thursday will be the qualifiers banquet & the presenting club is looking for auction items. Again, please coordinate auction items with Matt or Ron. Mod: (Daren) Ballot results – 750ccmr weight is down to 450 lbs. MOD owners can now vote on class rules. Next year drivers are eligible to vote only if they compete in the class at a minimum of two events (not days). PRO: Jim Nilsen reported All PRO ballot items passed. J-Classes: (Jim/Pat) Nothing new on the national front. Locally, if anyone wants to run an OMC-A motor, as a prototype in AX, Pat has some prototype restrictor plates to test. Race Updates: l Oroville Speed Trials: Daren Goehring reported 15 combined 1/4 mile & Kilo records were set, with SOA members ac- counting for 12 of those records. Congratulations to Daniel Korpe, Bob Wartinger, JW Myers, Daren Goehring, John Peeters & Jim Nilsen on their records. l Kenmore Slough Event: Jan Shaw Would like to thank everyone that helped make this years Slough event a success. The local group is already looking ahead & inquiring about next years date. The city, sheriff & marine patrol were pleased. Everyone seemed to have a good time. l Castle Rock: Kyle Bahl told members that Stock Winter Nationals are ready to go. For SO Winter Nationals, any class over 12 entries (elims) will be scored like SO Nationals…2 elimination heats (single points) & 2 final heats (double points). l Kitsap Lake: Dwight malhiot noted CSH North American Championship. No camping (including across the street) No dogs. Baymont Hotel has an SOA rate. Newberg: 45SS Nationals l Everett: (Jim) 20ssh North American Championship. Good to go, at this time just trying to finalize a food vendor. Cullaby: 200ccmr North American Championship l Monroe: Daren Goehring reported the race CANCELLED. We might try again next year. l Eatonville: Ron Magnuson noted MOD Divisionals and Everything good. If you’re planning on camping, please let Ron know your plans. l Lawrence: Jim Nilsen reported DSH & 850ccmh North American Championship. Rumor has it that an invasive plant infestation at the lake has been cleaned up/removed & we should be good to go in the fall with our Lawrence Lake race. 2 New Business: u Equipment updates: The club has purchased 2 new Jon boats & 2 new kicker motors. The old Jon boats & 9.9 Evinrudes (2 of each) are for sale. u Membership updates/cards: (Matt) All SOA membership card should be out by Castle Rock. u CPR/DEFB training: (Ana) Saturday 5/7, 9:00-11:30 am at ATS Automation in Renton. Free, but certification card is $20. u Vendor update: (Daren) A vendor is an individual/company that comes to the race to sell or provide services to sell…need a certificate of insurance (COI). A vendor is not a racer that comes to a race and that may have items in his trailer that will help his fellow competitor. Round Table: t Ron magnuson explained new straps on the kicker boats. Firm is good-No need to over-tighten. t Happy 24th Birthday, Aaron Salmon.
