This year, several aspects of the East
Cooper Coastal Triathlon have been
changed.
The run portion of this year’s triathlon was
decreased from five miles to four miles, cutting off a small portion of the run course
through the Isle of Palms.
The transition area, which was previously
located on Palm Boulevard, will now be contained within the Isle of Palms County Park.
The course for the triathlon extends
through scenic areas in Mount Pleasant, the
Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island.
The swim portion of the event will be a 0.6-
mile ocean swim that runs parallel to the
shoreline and ends at Isle of Palms County
Park.
Wetsuits will be allowed.
The 16-mile bike segment will leave the
Isle of Palms by way of the Isle Of Palms
Connector and continue onto Hungryneck
Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, then onto the
breathtaking Palm Boulevard across Breach
Inlet to Sullivan’s Island.
The four-mile run course will take triathletes back over the Isle of Palms Connector to
the finish line at the The Shoppes at Seaside
Farms in Mount Pleasant, where Piggly
Wiggly will provide a post-race buffet for participants.
A shuttle bus will be available for transportation back to the Isle of Palms parking
area.
Various awards will be presented following
the event, including awards for the top
triathletes within age groups, relay teams,
the open/elite division and other divisions.
