HIDDEN MEADOWS on the ridge 340 Farmers Lane • Sellersville, PA 18960 Hidden Meadows P: 215-257-6701 • The Laurels P: 267-429-3931 February 2015 Resident of the M nth Gladys Hildebrandt Unfortunately, by the time the newsletter was submitted, Gladys had passed away. We still felt she should be honored as the resident of the month at The Laurels. We will all miss her!!! We love you, Gladys! Gladys was born Feb. 23, 1942, at Quakertown Hospital and grew up in Perkasie, PA. She got married to Carl Hildebrandt in June 1969 and lived on Ridge Road in Perkasie, PA. After briefly working in a pants factory in Quakertown, she moved on to work along with Carl at Fretz Enterprise in Souderton, PA, as an RV trailer detailer. Years later, Gladys and Carl decided to move to Florida and make it their permanent residence. Together, they went on numerous cruises and traveled to many places with close friends. They both enjoyed their home and years in Florida, but after the passing of her husband on Dec. 30, 2013, she decided to move back to PA to be closer to her family. She lived briefly in Saucon Valley, which is near Hellertown, PA, and then to Hidden Meadows, The Laurels. She loved her new home at The Laurels and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed painting, coloring, bingo, music, parties and outings. She was a huge MICKEY MOUSE FAN!! We hope that your holidays were safe and joyous with your family members. In the coming months, you are going to be invited to several events at your respective loved ones’ communities. One important event that I would like to draw your attention to is the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group. This group is starting on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. and will run each month on the fourth Thursday of the month. This group is open to anyone—both family member and friend from the community—who might have a loved one who is experiencing or starting to experience the signs of dementia. We hope that you will take advantage of a time to talk and fellowship with others who are on this road with you. As always, if you should have any questions from an administrative end, please know that Eric and Melissa’s doors are always open for you. We welcome time to talk with you about anything going on with your loved one. Thank you! She worked in a law office for 15 years in Perkasie. Teaching a sewing class at the 4-H Club was one of her favorite pastimes. She loves watching the Hallmark and Lifetime Channels, as well as doing word searches. Soup Fundraiser During the winter months, our culinary department will create two delicious soups and offer them for sale with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association. All soup must be ordered and paid in advance at the Business Office of either building. The deadline for February is Monday the 16th. The soup is available on the third Wednesday. Big thanks to Tim Albertson, our Culinary Director, who is spearheading this project. Our hope is to present a check to the Alzheimer’s Association, and we need your help to exceed the $1,000 mark. Friends and Family Program The best form of praise is suggesting our name to a friend or neighbor who may have interest in exploring senior living communities. In appreciation for referrals received from families, we have instituted a rent credit for our current residents when a referral results in a new admission. This program began Jan. 1. For details of how your loved one can receive a one-time $1,000 reduction off their next month’s rent, please contact the Marketing Department. Scarves for Charity On Monday, Jan. 19, the residents of Hidden Meadows helped create 20 fleece scarves. These will be donated to FISH, the Pennridge Food Bank. FISH is our local charity that contributes food and clothing to those in need. Thank you to all who helped out. Making a blanket to be donated. Banish Winter Blahs Banish the winter blahs with a dose of natural light. When sunlight hits the eye’s retina, it boosts the body’s levels of serotonin, which balances your mood. If cold weather keeps you indoors, get some sun by opening up room blinds, and sit near windows whenever possible.
