Our Faith
TOWARD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
From the beginning of creation, God intended for people to live together in relationship with one another.
Much of scripture shows us how to do this as it illustrates and clarifies God’s plans. The readings this weekend
guide us in the value and care of our relationships. Specifically, the Gospel focuses on the circumstances of
failed relationships. Unlike the Pharisees, we would do well not to focus on the laws that pertain to failed
relationships, but concentrate instead on what God really intended for us. Healthy bonds require a lot of our
time and energy. They certainly require trust and honesty. Jesus demonstrated a deep commitment to his
friends and to us. As our brother, he gave his very life for us. Children work hard at friendships. They trust,
forgive, and love without conditions. The final words of today’s Gospel invite us to welcome Jesus and the

Religious Education News Classes for the 2015-16 school-year have started. If you have not yet
registered, but would like to do so, please contact the Religious Education Office as soon as possible. You can
call the Parish Office at 773-792-3077 or e-mail rmazzoni@saintthecla.org. Remember that
sacrament preparation is a two year program, so those wishing to receive the sacraments of Communion or
Confirmation in 2017, need to begin this year. We are also still in need of volunteers to be aids in the
classrooms. If you are willing to share your time to help out, please contact the Religious Education Office.

St Thecla's Women's Council is planning to go on a "haunted tour of Chicago” on October 13,

Thursday, October 15, from 12:01 a.m. to
Noon (12 hours). We are on the 40 Days for
Life calendar. Please join us for prayer and
support.
Beginning today, October 4th (Respect Life Sunday), our parish will participate in The
Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicago land. This
non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies
by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing
& monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have
over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God’s grace, The Women’s Centers
have saved over 36,000 babies—and their mothers—from abortion since opening in 1984.
Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church from October 4th through
October 25th, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of October 24 &25th.
This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women’s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost
almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project.
Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers.
Eucharistic Adoration: On Wednesdays at 1pm, the church is open for the Exposition and
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Benediction at 3pm. At this time,
people come together to pray and be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Consider bringing someone
with you...or bring their concerns, fears and struggles and speak with our Lord about them.
Scripture is filled with moments when people brought the sick and those burdened
directly to Jesus.

Jedność - dar miłości.
Wstęp do liturgii
Stajemy przy ołtarzu Pana jako wspólnota miłości,
aby poprzez Eucharystię jeszcze bardziej połączyć
się z Chrystusem. Karmiąc się Słowem i Ciałem
Zbawiciela, pragniemy jeszcze bardziej zjednoczyć
się z Nim, ale również i z Kościołem.
Prawdziwe zjednoczenie z Jezusem i z Jego Ciałem
Mistycznym dokonuje się na każdej Mszy Świętej.
Dlatego na początku tej uczty miłości i jedności
przeprośmy Najwyższego, za to wszystko, co jest
przeszkodą na drodze do zjednoczenia się z Nim i z
braćmi.
Wstęp do liturgii słowa
Pierwsze i drugie czytanie ilustruje prawdę o ścisłej
jedności ludzkiej, zwłaszcza jeśli chodzi o kobietę i
mężczyznę. Ta jedność małżeńska jest święta, ponieważ została uświęcona przez samego Boga i nikt
nie ma prawa rozdzielać miłości małżeńskiej, która
została złączona przez Stwórcę.

Baptisms:
Please contact the Parish Office to arrange a Baptism.
Baptismal Prep Class:
Will be confirmed at time of Registration of the Baptism.
How to Become a Catholic:
Adults or teenagers interested in receiving the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, or Eucharist) or those who
are interested in the Catholic Faith should call the Parish Office
for more information about the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults).
Marriages:
The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage
Preparation for the Archdiocese of Chicago ask that a minimum
of 4 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage.
Couples should refrain from setting a firm date or making any
other arrangements until after they have met with a parish priest
or deacon to discuss marriage plans. Please note that Weddings
do not take place during Lent.
Bulletin Deadline: All articles must be e-mailed or
dropped off at the Parish Office by 10:00 a.m. on Fridays
(8 days prior to publication date). Holidays subject to longer

Homebound/Communion Visitations:
St. Thecla Church has several ministers of care who can
regularly take communion to those in need. Please call the
Parish Office to arrange for communion for yourself or a
homebound loved one.

St. Thecla School
News From St. Thecla's 3rd Grade Class
The third graders have had a fabulous start to the
school year. The students experience having their
own lockers and finally get to share the second floor
with the big kids. They are making full use of our
iPad technology and the computer lab which enhances
learning in literacy and math.
St Thecla Football: The Falcons had another great weekend of football with all 3 teams coming away with
victories against their always-tough south side rival, St Gabriel. The varsity team remains undefeated with a
record of 4 - 0, as they beat St Gabe's 26 - 12 in a great offensive performance. The JV team played great
defense again as they held the Shamrocks to only 1 score, winning 8 - 6, and improving their record to 3 - 1.
Our Developmental Team also had an exciting game with the Shamrocks as they continue to roll through
their competition.
This week is HOMECOMING Week! The Falcons will host St. Mary's of Riverside this Sunday at Notre
Dame in Niles. The DFL team plays at 11:15 am, the JV at 1:00 pm and the Varsity at 2:30 pm.
It will be a fun-filled day starting with Mass at 10:00 am. Then come decorate your car in the parking lot and
join in the procession to Notre Dame. Bring the whole family out and enjoy and exciting afternoon of
football, and a great lunch at our fabulous concession stand! After the game, join us in Falcon Hall for our
5th Quarter Party, with food, refreshments, and performances by our awesome Cheerleading Squads.

Our fall fundraiser begins this Friday; and we have opportunities for parishioners to support the effort through
volunteering for ticket sales and/or provide some of the needed items on our wish list:
Current wish list for the haunted house…
 Monetary donations for props and costumes.
 Batteries :AA & AAA. Cases of water, Halloween Candy for 'no scare' days.
 Supply food to feed 50 workers each night.
