ChoicePlus allows you to choose the easiest way to
get your E ✔Check.
• 23 existing Full-Service E ✔Check stations, where ALL
vehicles can be tested.
• 53 new testing locations, including 36 Lube Stops and
17 independent repair facilities, where most newer
vehicles—1996 and newer gasoline vehicles and 1997
and newer diesel vehicles—can be tested.
• 16 self-service kiosks located outside many of the existing
E ✔Check stations, where you can conduct your own
On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) test on newer vehicles.

kiosks, located at selected E ✔Check
stations throughout Northeast
Ohio. These easy-to-use kiosks walk
you through the simple process
of conducting your own OBD
emissions test 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
RapidScreen
This is only applicable for the
five percent of the vehicles
that are really clean. The new
RapidScreen vans will travel
throughout Northeast Ohio and can remotely scan your
car as you drive by to diagnose your exhaust emissions.
If your vehicle is really clean and has passed RapidScreen’s
emissions qualifications, you’ll receive a notification in the
mail. For the few vehicles that pass this, they will not be
required to go to an emissions testing facility.

Vehicles must be tested
prior to registration in seven
Ohio E ✔Check counties
Vehicles between four and
25 years old are subject to
emissions testing. Those with
odd-number model years are
tested in odd years (2001,
2003, etc.). Vehicles with
even-number model years are
tested in even years (2002,
2004, etc.). Also, vehicles
powered by alternative fuels
are exempt from testing (see
www.ohioecheck.org). For
example, a model year 2011
begins testing in 2015 and the
oldest vehicle tested in 2015
would be a 1991. Motorists
purchasing a used vehicle
must obtain a valid E ✔Check
certificate for registration. A
passing certificate is good for
one year and is transferable
to a new owner. To protect
yourself when purchasing a
used vehicle four years old
or older, be sure to ask for a
passing E ✔Check certificate
before purchasing the vehicle.
Vehicle test history
A vehicle’s test history
can be obtained at
www.ohioecheck.info using
the Vehicle Identification
Number (VIN). If there is
a valid test, a copy can be
obtained at any one of the
E ✔Check testing locations.
Watch the mail for
notification
Motorists will receive a
courtesy reminder of the
required test at least 60 days
prior to registration renewal.
However, motorists can get
vehicles tested up to 365
REV. 1-2016
days before your required
registration renewal date.
Engine and catalytic
converter should be at
their normal operating
temperatures
Vehicles older than model
year 1996 need to be driven
for at least 15–20 minutes
prior to testing in order for
the engine to be at the proper
operating temperature.
