Full throttle ahead
We are in full throttle with the summer
season and have some
fantastic events planned
for you this summer
and fall.
Thank you to John
and Alice Strom for
hosting a sold-out drive
to Cabot Cove over
Mother’s Day weekend.
I heard great stories
and look forward to
hearing more about it.
The Macan Launch
was a great success.
Many of our members
were able to test drive,
sit in, and ask questions
about this new sporty
and affordable SUV.
A big thank you to
Porsche of Reno for
hosting food, wine,
beer, and of course the
cars!
Next up will be the
Cowboy Fast Draw
on May 31st. Pete and
Carol are very enthusiastic about getting our
members to come out
and learn something
new.
June will be very busy
not only with a cou-
Morning from exit 2
around 9 am if anyone
is interested in taking
a freeway drive along
with me to Monterey,
CA. This will be an
informal gathering and
not sponsored as an official drive by the club.
Just send me an email if
you want to meet up.
Last, but not least,
our newsletter chair,
layout chair and super
board member Jim
Hemig is now a resident
of Grass Valley, CA. Jim
was new to us last year
and put in a lot of time
and effort into this club.
He was greatly appreciated and will be missed.
Thank you for all you
do!

Mayberry Park can be reached by going west
on 4th Street past McCarran Blvd. Go approximately 2 miles from McCarran west then turn

Genoa Americana
Celebration
This year we have a brand new event – bigger
and better – in Mormon Station State Park in
Genoa. And, it’s free !! It’s the Genoa Americana Celebration.
A series of activities and performances will run
all day long from 10am to 6pm. It starts with a
Children’s Parade at 10 followed by 5 different
Traditional American Music bands from 11am4pm. The finale will be a “Pops” performance
by the Carson City Symphony from 4:30pm to
6:00pm. The Symphony will also feature McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain.
As usual, we’ll have special Porsche parking on
the Orchard House lawn and a reserved area in
Mormon Station for club members to spread
their blankets & chairs. It’s always BYO - anything you’d like. The local businesses will offer
food and drink and the Genoa VFD will be doing their famous chicken dinner if you’d prefer
purchasing what you need at the event.
Please RSVP (or for questions) to Dan Aynesworth at 714.474.1362 or danaynesworth@

Spring Dust-Off Tour
After weeks of mild weather –
and weeks of planning – a spring
storm dropped a considerable
amount of snow in the mountains
in the days leading up to the April
26 Dust-Off Tour.
Undeterred by weather and the
possibility of having to abandon
the planned tour around Lake
Tahoe, SNR PCA members and
guests including Doug Bull, David
Clark, Debbie and Harry Dell,
Rebecca Dixon, Ancil Hoffman,
Su Kemper, George Mihalko, Scott
Walshaw and daughter Kendal,
Steve Kent and Cameron Warren,
joined organizers Ana (whose
parents from Spain also participated) and Rick Baker.
Rick Baker
SNR Member
Most of the drivers and tour
participants met for breakfast at
the Sunrise Café, and were joined
there by other members to discuss
the weather, possible alternate
routes, new car dreams and purchases, and conversation mostly
about Porsches and other cars.
Attention then turned to settling on an alternate route that
allowed the group to have an
enjoyable and scenic drive without
the need to navigate snow or other
bad weather.
With known chain requirements that morning on Mt. Rose
Highway and a portion of the
alternate route through Virginia
City, we considered recommendations from the driving group.
At the suggestion of Debbie
and Harry Dell, and with their
leadership on the drive, participants – in a wide array of Porsche
models and years – set off on US
395 north to Hallelujah Junction,
west on CA 70, south on CA 49
through Loyalton and Sierraville,
south on CA 89 to Tahoe City by
way of Truckee, and then east on
CA 28 to Carnelian Bay.
As luck would have it, weather
during the drive was excellent,
and the roads were clear and clean

as the group enjoyed spectacular
scenery and the opportunity to
drive their Porsches.
The leg from Truckee to Tahoe
City was especially beautiful,
as the group traveled along the
Truckee River, with snow on the
mountains and adorning the trees
– truly postcard worthy!
We reassembled at Gar Woods
Restaurant, on the shore of Lake
Tahoe in Carnelian Bay, where
the group enjoyed lunch in an upstairs dining area overlooking the
lake. With the lake as a backdrop,
and with an excellent lunch, conversation centered on the successful drive, Porsches, cars in general,
and upcoming PCA events.

Coastal Cruise to Cabot Cove 3
What a great weekend!
We had a wonderful time with
great food and lodging, great
weather and scenery, and best
of all, great friends and beautiful Porsches! Nine Porsches left
Reno Friday afternoon, May 9th,
and headed down Interstate 80
to Larkspur, Calif. John & Alice
Strom led the pack followed
by Paul & Nancy Gianini, Fred
Alice & John Strom
SNR Members
Schatz & Bobbi Strobel, Harry &
Debbie Dell, Bob Jordan & Kelly
Bass, Rich & Karen O’Larey, Jan
& Rosemary Snickars, Jim &
Carol Dolian and Ron & Denise
Lewis. Doug & Rebecca Bull and
Gary & Louise Bullis joined us
with the group in Larkspur.
This was the third Coastal
Cruise to Cabot Cove, with the
previous two done back in 2003
and 2006. It’s so named because
the destination, Mendocino, was
used to represent Cabot Cove,
Maine, in the old television series
Murder She Wrote.
The Larkspur Courtyard Marriott has a delightful firepit area

that was perfect for our late afternoon cocktail party. All the participants are old hands at this and
came prepared with lots of wine
and snacks. Debbie Dell’s asparagus wraps were a big hit! A short
walk across the street brought us
to the Marin Brewing Company
for our dinner under the stars on
their outdoor patio. The evening
was filled with lots of laughs and
a great feed! Tired and full, and a
bit chilled, we headed back for a
good night’s rest.
Bright and early the next
morning, May 10th, we filled our
tummies with breakfast and our
cars with gas and took a scenic
meander through Larkspur to
CA 1. The views were glorious,
the sun sparkled over us all and
our first view of the Pacific was
spectacular. Highway 1 never
disappoints and Saturday was no
exception. Lots of chatter and
banter over the walkie-talkies
kept us aware of each interesting
sight (and smell) along the way.
Our coffee stop/bio break
at Point Reyes Station offered
boutiques and more as the ladies

in the group were tempted by
one-of-a-kind-items. We enjoyed
the coffee and a stretch there.
Back in the cars, we headed
north through long sweepers and
coastal towns. There were lots of
bicycles early on in the drive and
some slower traffic … including
cows! ... along the way, but we all
thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent spring weather and scenery!
Lunch at the Timber Cove
Lodge was marvelous. They
were ready for us and served up
delicious burgers and other fare
to enjoy. The blustery day kept
us from lingering too long so we
continued on up to our hotel in
Fort Bragg, arriving by midafternoon.
Once again we had a social
get-together before dinner, this
time with John going over the
answers from his Who Makes
Me? World Automotive Model
Challenge. An earlier version
of this challenge was used on
the last Cabot Cove Cruise. The
funny and somewhat strange
model names were matched with
the brands that sold them, such
as the Bongo Friendee, sold by
Mazda. All were models not sold
in the United States, so most people had no idea who made them.
Debbie Dell had the most correct
“guesses” and was awarded a nice
Porsche script pin. Each of the
ladies received a lovely red rose
in honor of Mother’s Day.
Our dinner was at Silver’s at
the Wharf, a delightful seafood
restaurant down in Nogo Harbor
in Fort Bragg. The food was fantastic, as was the spirited conversation. It was a great way to cap
off the day!
The drive home (…or to other
places) on Sunday, May 11th was
on-your-own, with several alternatives to enjoy.
Thanks to all who participated.
Let’s do it again!
