elcome to Easter Sunday 2016 at the historical Church of the Little Flower, which this year celebrates its 90th anniversary of
witnessing to the risen life of Christ in Coral Gables and beyond. This parish community, which boasts of more than 3,000
registered families, is among the most prominent Catholic churches in South Florida, where the beauty of art and architecture,
as unspoken homilies, lift minds to the transcendent each and every day, and nurture faith in the abiding presence of the Risen Christ.
Our parish is a setting where the beauty of the liturgical environment and of the natural surroundings speak of a continuous
spiritual springtime in Christ, our Light, where the décor announces the importance of what is done here, where 49 ministries and
services reach out to attend to the needs of our community in the name of the Risen Lord, where more than 500 Baptisms take place
each year, which complement the vibrant sacramental life of the Church, namely in the Eucharist: the source and summit of our
Catholic life in the Risen Christ. It is through the Sacred Eucharist that we receive the real and substantial presence of Christ at each
one of our 1369 Masses celebrated annually in this holy place, through which the Word is made flesh again, and flesh is put on the road
to God.
Little Flower, as all Catholic churches throughout the world, today renews its very “core” in the most fundamental Christian belief,
i.e., in the Resurrection of Christ. As such, it is a place where the Lord is constantly encountered on the Road to Emmaus, expressed
through our many retreat experiences in the course of our ministerial year. Our parish is a place where devotions abound that nourish
the soul and draw hearts to a deeper personal spirituality. It is likewise a place where the education and faith formation of both children
and adults alike is of the highest priority. Our parish, like Catholic churches around the globe, is a place where the presence of the Risen
Lord inspires everything we do; for, in Him we live, and move, and have our being. Christ is alive among us. He is risen, indeed!
It is our privilege, therefore, to be witnesses to all these things; but it is also our Easter responsibility to BE witnesses to the Risen
Lord by doing our part. Our fragile and temporary earthly lives are only given their true meaning, direction, and purpose in relationship
to the Risen Christ. As such, Easter festivities are not merely cultural duties, nor even seasonal delights. Easter faith has to do with the
very essence of life, and the trajectory of our living. Each of us is called, in the light of the Gospel, to live out our holy vocations in
integrity, sincerity, and truth. Consider carefully, then, the witness of your life. What is the purpose for which you live? What are the
values you espouse, the words you speak, the deeds you do, the works you accomplish? If they are not grounded in a lived, practiced,
celebrated, and integrated Easter faith, then what else is so consuming a priority for you? God’s people, accompanied by the Risen Lord
are to live and witness to their faith in such a way that it is shared and becomes evident in the way we live. We would hope that one
might remark of us: “if this is what the servant is, what isn’t the Master?” Wonder and awe should propel us to witness to the Risen
Christ in all we do, and shape the content and legacy of our lives. We are the new witnesses to Christ, and can bring others to Him.
He is alive. He is alive in us. May we live, and move, and have our being in Him. Happy Easter!
B
¡Felices Pascuas!

To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone
who believes in him will receive forgiveness of
sins through his name.
— Acts 10:43
“W
e are witnesses!” The scripture readings for
Easter Sunday concentrate on details
reported by eyewitnesses. Listen carefully and you
will be drawn into the stories yourself. Peter reports
the good works Jesus did, his death on the cross, and
his resurrection. The passage from John’s Gospel has
us running to the empty tomb with Peter and John
and peering inside to see the cloths used to cover
Jesus’ body. Psalm 118 sums up our response: “It is
wonderful in our eyes!”
What resurrection details do we see in our lives
today? How have we died to our old lives and been
raised up again with Jesus? Let us pay attention to the
new life around us. It is wonderful in our eyes.

POPE FRANCIS - @PONTIFEX
“No one can be excluded
from the mercy of God.
The Church is the house
where everyone is welcomed
and no one is rejected.”
vida eterna.

Continuing our bi-annual custom, on May 2nd at 7:30pm, we will have an outdoor candlelight
international rosary ceremony in honor of the Blessed Mother at the Marian Grotto of the
Immaculate Conception on the rectory house lawn. The prayer service, done during the Marian

families with children, and ministry groups are welcome. We will pray for our parish as we
continue to celebrate the 90th anniversary.
Deacon-elect Oswaldo Agudelo, an
adopted member of the Church of the
Little Flower parish, who served as a
seminarian here during the summer of
2011, will be offering his first homily
(in Spanish) as a newly ordained
Deacon on Sunday, April 17th at 12:30pm. He will be
ordained the previous day at a ceremony in Palm

The City of Coral Gables Landscape Beautification Board
has chosen to recognize the Church of the Little Flower for
the “improvements you have made to the landscaping of
your property. You are to be congratulated for your
selection and maintenance of the beautiful plant materials
which make the surroundings of your property so aesthetically pleasing.” The Mayor of Coral Gables will be
presenting Father Davis, representing our parish, with an
award on annual Arbor Day on April 29th at 11:00am in

We are happy to announce that on the weekend of May 14th and 15th, Father Peter Stravinskas, Ph.D., S.T.D., the editor of the Catholic
Encyclopedia, a speaker with an international reputation, will be visiting Little Flower to preach at all the weekend English Masses on
the history, value, and importance of Catholic schools in the life of the Church. A wonderfully enriching message to be sure. He will
be likewise making his many books and resources available for purchase after Mass. More information to follow.
As summer quickly approaches, school lets out and our travels take us to points both near and far from home, Online Giving
is an excellent option to make sure the church we love so much continues to receive our thoughtful stewardship even when our
physical presence is not possible. Summer has always been a time for vacationing and spending quality time with family, let us
not forget our Little Flower family. This service is free, safe and secure, and it is a perfect tool for anyone who will be going out of
town and not able to be physically at Mass. If you had been thinking of signing up, now is an excellent time to give it a try!
We currently have over 500 families who already use online giving, simply go to www.cotlf.org click on the Online Giving
tab and see how convenient it is. If you would like more information or to schedule an appointment to help set up your account,
please contact Jorge Perez, at 305-446-5950 ext. 318.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------El verano se acerca rápidamente, el colegio termina y nuestros viajes nos llevan a puntos cerca y lejos de casa. Donar a través

We are starting to think
about
our
plans
to
reorganize
the
focus,
purpose, and structure of
our annual Thanksgiving
Day ministry. The new
thought is that we would organize and serve a
free meal here in our school cafeteria for all
those who would otherwise be alone for
Thanksgiving, or those who would otherwise not
have a Thanksgiving dinner to enjoy. To gather
people here on our campus is an approach which
seeks to focus on our elderly parishioners and
immediate neighbors, helping them to benefit
from being with community on such special day.
It also reduces past liability issues. We will soon
be having a planning meeting for all those who
would like to volunteer to be part of the new
Leadership Committee. To the degree that a new
Leadership Committee is formed, our parish will
move forward with an implementation of this
ministry. If not, we will discern the use of our
energies in other expressions of generosity. Join
us for an initial meeting on Monday, April 25th at
7:30pm at the parish office conference room.
