November 2015
BREAKING GROUND FOR
SO-CAL FISHER HOUSE
PAT THOMAS
Valerie and Greg Owen, along with Liz
Gaston Executive Staff Director, helped break
ground for the Southern California Fisher
House. Long Beach’s VA Hospital is a prime
candidate for a Fisher House, which serves
56,000 veterans a year, and is a national
center for treatment of spinal cord injuries.
Greg and Val Owen, Ability Tri-Modal, are
both on the Fisher House So Cal Board of
Directors, and their son the late Josh Owen
also served as a Board of Director.
Dear ATA Members,
November is often a time, because of the Thanksgiving
holiday, to sit back and take stock of all we’re thankful for.
ATA IMMEDIATE PAST
CHAIRMAN LONG
CELEBRATES
Coming off our tremendous Management Conference
and Exhibition in Philadelphia, I’m thankful for many,
many things – not the least of which is that the members
of ATA have elected me chairman at this critical time for
our industry.
ATA Immediate Past Chairman Duane
Long (Longistics) accepts his official
Chairman’s portrait while celebrating
his year representing ATA.
I’m also thankful for where our industry appears to be
headed. Trucking’s future is very bright. We heard from
members and exhibitors in Philadelphia about how
enthusiastic they were about the direction this industry
is moving. We heard from political leaders that we may
soon see progress on important legislation and safety
rules. These are all positive.
CELEBRATING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
So, we in trucking have a lot to be thankful for – remember that, and remember to be thankful for the drivers and
technicians and dispatchers and all the people that make
this industry go. Delivering our Thanksgiving meals and all
the trimmings, but also so much more.
Pat Thomas
ATA Chairman
D.M. Bowman decaled three units in
their fleet to honor their first lady Jone
Bowman in recognition of the encouragement, compassion and support
she provided to others whose lives
had been touched by breast cancer.
Jim Ward, president and CEO, said it
is a great way to show our continued
support of women in trucking. Keep
an eye out in Maryland, North Carolina and Indiana for the D.M. Bowman
breast cancer units on the highway.
