There are reasons for Aomori to be chosen.

Aomori Prefecture is located at the northernmost point of Japan’s main island of
Honshu and lies at an almost identical latitude as Rome, Madrid and New York. Its
climate remains relatively cool even in summer to be ideal for the conditioning of
athletes.

Aomori is filled with natural beauty including Shirakami Mountain Range, one of
Japan’s first sites entered on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list. The
prefecture is dotted with onsen, or hot springs, that are useful for recovery from
physical and mental fatigue. Summer festivals in Aomori are well known nationwide
and promote active international and intercultural exchange along the way.

Maeda Arena located in Aomori City is a comprehensive sports complex
supported by the prefecture’s top-class equipment. It consists of arenas

Institute for Sports Sciences where specialist doctors
provide multi-faceted support to athletes. It is also complete
with a large-scale training camp dormitory, which can
accommodate 145 people.
Michinokubank Dream Stadium, located in the center of Aomori City,
excels in visitor amenities and accessibility. It is a multi-sport complex
equipped with a wrestling hall, a judo hall, a grass ground suitable for
football and other facilities.

As this stadium has good access to the center of Aomori City, visitors may
find it convenient to transfer by Shinkansen bullet train and arrange
accommodation. It is also located so close to the large-scale sports
complex Maeda Arena (New Aomori Prefecture Sports Park) (See the

that hosts the Japan Cup
Iwaki River Canoe Center
Iwaki River Canoe Center in Nishimeya Village, located in southwestern
Aomori Prefecture, has a purpose-built 200-500 m course using the Iwaki
River. It has been hosting wildwater and slalom races in the nationwide
Japan Cup series every year.

Hachinohe Martial Arts Center in Hachinohe City, located in southeastern
Aomor i Prefe cture, accommodate s t wo mats author ize d by the
international amateur wrestling federation, United World Wrestling. A
gymnasium in the adjacent Hachinohe Higashi Sports Park employs LED
lighting, which is becoming de rigueur for international matches.

The Iwaki River, which can secure a stable supply of water thanks to water
discharges from the upstream Tsugaru Dam, is one of the few rivers in the
country that can constantly stage canoeing events. It has been hosting the
Japan Cup and various other competitions, and is surrounded with
accommodations featuring onsen, or hot springs.
