Project Location: Roseburg, OR
Size of Project: The general property is 1,10ft by 150ft and there are carvings all over
the entire property. The main feature is approximately 50ft by 50ft.
Unique Specifications/Requirements: Color to mix and acid stained after placement.
Airbrush work was added over the top of sealer.
Placement Challenges or Unique Techniques: All of the detail on this project is applied
by hand with a 10" pool trowel by 1 person (no crew.) Nothing was shot-on, not even
the scratch coat, stamp work for texture. All detail was gone over with an exacto knife
and paint brush for fine tuning and carving details. All art work is knife carved like the
Tiki's, and all lettering and background of the Tiki Lounge sign is carved out with a baby
spoon to make it looked chipped out. All steel structures were welded by the same
individual (lath and all.) A younger kid assisted with moving bucket after bucket of
concrete to hard to reach places.

Other Special Technical Aspects: The structure in place before The Tiki Lounge project
was just as much concrete. This was torn out to build the new dream/vision:
• Three different waterfalls (adjustable for flow in every direction)
• Three color changing lights in the pool for light shows or lock on any color
• Over-sized heater than can easily heat the pool to 100 degrees even in the coldest of
winters
• Three caves to climb up or in with sleeping quarters in 2 of the caves
• Electricity and heat throughout the structure. The grotto has pull out television and
surround sound so you can float in the pool and watch the screen from seating inside
• the grotto
• Bar with fridge inside
• All walls are designed to look like wood is hand carved and colored as well. The wood
knots were created by troweling up your wall of mud, marking out the boards, make a
ball of mud in your hand and spat it on the boards, and lightly carve around it. This
makes a real looking broken off piece (that fool everybody who looks at it!)
• All extra details include fake plants and real grass hut roofing on the awnings to really
give the Hawaiian feel. The owner built all walls and designed all detailed carvings on
the walls. This project was not drawn out on paper first. It was started by building and
on-going for 6 years. It’s so rewarding to share this project with friends and family!

The entire backyard had a slope with no wall up top and neither shop was there. Lots of
excavation work was completed to start what you see here. All steel rebar frame work
was wrapped with lath, scratch-coated and the final coat is approximately 1” – “2 thick.

Night picture: All lighting changes colors or can stay any color desired. Three
LED pool lights can also perform five different light shows.

This is a corner cave that climbs up to the top level. The other cave you see
is in front of the waterfall. You can dive through the water or lay on the
bench in the back under the waterfall.

All tiki carvings are hollow with steel frame used to obtain the basic shape.
