Offering traditional Christmas arts and crafts, toys and gifts, the Christmas market also has food and drink to cater to every taste. This is particularly so as its completion in 1890 meant it became the highest church tower in the world reaching a height of 161.53 metres. 2015 will mark the 125th anniversary of this milestone: reason enough for the city of Ulm to celebrate the presence of this monumental structure by organizing a large-scale art project. Internationally- known artists have been invited to express themselves artistically using the tower as the central theme. From a contemporary perspective, the focus is on addressing and interpreting the Ulm philosophy: climbing high to be able to see afar. The southern gable features the arms of the towns and states with trade links to Ulm 2 Stadthaus (Town Hall) (1993) and an old Danube barge (Ulmer Schachtel). Permanent exhibition on the history of milling and baking as well as the significance of bread for mankind in the past and present. 12 Neue Stadtbibliothek The glass pyramid has been an additional eyecatcher in Ulm since 2004. Ulm Christmas Market Shopping in Ulm All around the Minster, you‘ll find a colourful mixture of small shops which are often accommodated in lovingly restored buildings. The Hirschstraße shopping street is home to the major department stores and international chains. Ulm‘s „new centre“ Modern contrast: the Kunsthalle Weishaupt, the Münstertor department store and the Forum Sparkasse. Fun for kids and a break for parents – Kinderpark Ulm e. If you are travelling by bus or car, Ulm and Neu-Ulm are easily reached via the A7 and A8 motorways and various national routes. There is free parking for coaches in the centre and at the Donauhalle (with bus driver services). Plenty of car parking facilities are available in the multi-storey car parks or you can use our Park & Ride service. If you are travelling by train, Ulm enjoys ideal links with the ICE and IC/EC railway network. Many regional rail services also ensure that guests from surrounding areas have easy access to the cities. And then it‘s only a five-minute walk from the main railway station to the Christmas Market.
