Center for Orthopaedics Makes Donation to Merryville High
School Baseball Program
The Center for Orthopaedics (CFO), an affiliate of Imperial Health and the region's largest
musculoskeletal group, recently made a $1,500 donation to Merryville High School's
baseball program. The donation will go towards equipment and gear for the baseball
program. Center for Orthopaedics provides sports medicine coverage for Merryville High
School as well as 13 other high schools in the region. They are also the Team Physicians
for McNeese State University's Athletic Department. Representatives from CFO, Dr. John
Noble, Dr. Steven Hale, and CFO High School Athletic Training Program Coordinator Jason
Rodriguez, presented Merryville High School baseball coach Drew Powell and Beauregard
Parish District 2 school board member Charles Hudson with the $1,500 donation.
GROUND BREAKING
CARC BREAKS NEW GROUND IN SULPHUR
CARC, Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony August 31, 2015 for a new apartment
complex located on Maplewood Drive in Sulphur, LA. The ceremony celebrated the
official start of construction on Stroud Manor, a project CARC has been planning for the
past four years.
The purpose of the facility is to improve the availability of affordable, clean, and
safe housing for citizens with developmental disabilities living in Southwest Louisiana.
"We are excited to expand and look forward to becoming an integrated part of the
community here in Sulphur," said Libby Leone, CARC's Executive Director.
Stroud Manor will consist of four duplexes housing eight single bedroom units, a
manager's cottage, a laundry facility, and a community

Healthy Woman 5th Anniversary Event
Lake Area Medical Center presents Healthy Woman "Country Come to Town" comedy show
and expo on Thursday, September 10, from 4-8:30 p.m. at L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake
Charles. This premiere event is being held in celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Lake Area
Medical Center's Healthy Woman program.
To put it simply, when Etta May takes the stage; she is
the reigning Queen of Southern Sass. Winner of the
prestigious American Comedy Awards, "Stand-Up Comic
of the Year," Etta May has appeared on Oprah, Comic
Strip Live, MTV and CBS Sunday morning. She currently
headlines the "Southern Fried Chicks Tour" and has been
selling out theaters all over the country.
The anniversary event will begin with a special Women's
Health Expo and Marketplace where participants can
browse and shop through an array of health, wellness
and retail booths featuring Healthy Woman Partners,
physicians and local businesses, followed by an
entertaining dinner program and comedic presentation.

The Sulphur High Lady Tors Soccer Team is excited to hold a soccer clinic on Saturday,
Sept. 19th! Clinic cost is $25. Each camper will receive a tshirt, drink, popsicle &
pizza along with a free ticket for a home SHS Soccer Game. Please preregister to
guarantee correct shirt size the day of camp. Registration begins at 8:00. We will

It's time to set aside your receipts from back-to-school items such as supplies, uniforms,
and equipment required by schools. These purchases may qualify for tax deductions on
2015 Louisiana Individual Income Tax Returns due May 15, 2016. The deductions apply to
educational expenses for public, private, parochial, and home schools. To claim the
deductions, you must be able to claim the student as a dependent on your state
individual income tax return, and you must be able to provide documentation for the
expenses. For more information about the Louisiana School Tuition and Expense Tax

L.I.F.T. (Living Information for Today), is a social program for lake area widows and
widowers sponsored and hosted by Hixson Funeral Homes. They meet on the 2nd
Wednesday of every month at their Moss Bluff location, the 3rd Wednesday in Sulphur,
