INTRODUCTION Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE) is an initiative of Ugandan people working to seek alternative and creative means of preventing, managing and resolving conflicts. Members come from a rich background of peace and human rights work, research and training. CECORE is a Ugandan NGO registered in January 1995 with programmes in Uganda, Great Lakes Regions and Horn of Africa. • To share knowledge and experience through networking. • To design and share information on Early Warning and preventive mechanisms on conflicts. PROGRAMMES I.Training in Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution and Transformation. • Linking parties in conflict for dialogue with assistance from experienced mediators for healing and reconciliation VISION A Society where Peace, Tolerance and Human dignity prevail. MISSION To promote a culture of peace VALUES • Respect for Fundamental Human Rights • Assurance of equal opportunities for all persons • Appreciation of differing opinions • Professional integrity • Team work and collaboration OBJECTIVES • To research and develop theory and to implement the practice of Conflict Resolution applying alternative and creative means. • To research, document and disseminate information on Conflict Resolution and Peace building. III. ‘Building Bridges’ - Conflict Resolution in practice • Train various sectors of society to increase awareness and understanding of conflicts and how to actively transform them. • Train in other life skills as a holistic approach to conflict prevention, management and resolution and post conflict peace-building. II. Media and Peace-building • CECORE recognises the crucial role the media plays, but very often the media is used to fuel conflict and misunderstanding. We therefore work with and through the media to promote peace-building and development. • Designing programmes to help in peace-building and post-conflict Reconstruction (Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration {DDR}, Security Sector Reform {SSR} and Small Arms and Light Weapons {SALW} Conflict Sensitive Approaches {CSA}) • Promote conflict prevention and resolution in non-formal sectors of society Networking and Advocacy • Organise and facilitate seminars, workshops, conferences, discussions, film shows, exhibitions, drama etc. in connection with or related to the implementation of the main purpose. • Collaborating with the African Union (AU’s) Peace and Security Department and its Divisions. l Collaborating with the African Union (Au’s) Peace and Security Department and its Divisions l Participation in regional and sub-regional initiatives for peace (especially with Regional Economic Commissions) l Lobbying policy and decision-makers to contribute to the culture of peace. • Participation in regional and sub-regional linitiatives Collaborating with actors in nonfor peace (especially with Regional violence,human rights, good governance Economic Commissions) and democracy. • Lobbying policy and decision-makers to contribute to Documentation the culture of peace.
