INDIANS HAVE TALENT
Devin Runnels is a
Talented Dude
By Jacob VanLooven and Bailee Lynn
Talent is Devin Runnel’s middle
name. Devin is a junior at Baldwin and
is full of interesting talents, like being
a speed stack specialist and a Rubik’s
Cube master.
“Rubik’s Cube and speed stack
have more pros to it than people think. I
now have good hand eye coordination,”
said Devin.
Devin started doing the Rubik’s
Cube in 2014. He started gaining interest after he watched some videos on
YouTube.
“I saw the Rubik’s Cube on
YouTube and it looked pretty dope so
I bought one and learned it in a week,”
said Devin.
Devin has had some pretty fast
times completing the Rubik’s Cube. His
fastest time is one minute and three
seconds.
After completing the Rubik’s Cube
multiple times, Devin decided to start
speed stacking. Devin was introduced
to speed stacking from his PE coach.
Devin’s fastest time with speed stacking is six and a half seconds.
Devin has some great tips for all
of you that want to be great at speed
stacking or the Rubik’s Cube.
Devin Runnels
“Just practice anytime you can and
you will get better as time goes on,”
said Devin.
Even though Devin does not stack
anymore, he still has his YouTube
channel which is devinrunnels with all
of his videos from the past.

Bailee Lynn Can Sing
By Sarah Krawczyk
Singing is something that comes
easy to Bailee Lynn. It runs through her
veins. Bailee has been singing since
she was a little girl.
“I started out singing in the car to
the radio and gradually started singing
to my friends and family,” said Bailee.
Her favorite person to sing to is her
mom because she is her biggest fan.
“My mom is always cheering me on
when I sing and she always keeps my
spirits up,” said Bailee.
Most singers have a favorite singer
and Bailee is no exception.
“Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are
my favorite singers because they have
great voices and they are people to
look up to,” said Bailee.
Bailee hopes to be a famous singer
just like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.
“I want to get so popular that Taylor
Swift or Miley Cyrus open up for me,”
said Bailee.
She believes that you should follow
Bailee Lynn
your dreams no matter what.
Sarah Krawczyk Has
An Amazing Talent
By Chase Haydu and Mackenzie Cope
Tumbling is a gymnastics skill used
in a cheer, dance, or for crowd appeal.
It can be done as an individual or as
group in unison.
Sarah Krawczyk is an amazing tumbler for Normandy Athletic Association,
which is her cheer team. She also
tumbles for the Varsity Cheer Team at
Baldwin.
“I think when Sarah tumbles, it’s
one of the coolest things I’ve ever
seen,” said Sam Pittman.
Sarah can flip and flip and never
stop. She can do a standing back tuck
back handspring, a roundoff back tuck
and a round off back hand spring layout.
“Tumbling is something I love to
do. It’s an everyday thing for me,” said
Sarah.
Tumbling is one of the hardest
things to do. It takes lots of training and
coordination.
“Tumbling is so amazing to watch
because it’s so crazy how someone
has such talent,” said Taylor Carlson.
Sarah has been tumbling since
she was four and she considers herself
blessed with this talent.
Sarah Krawczyk
“Tumbling just excites me and I
couldn’t imagine not knowing how to do
it,” said Sarah.
Many people should look up tumbling on the Internet and see how
amazing it really is.
Who’s Got Spirit?
By Amanda Hill
Who’s got spirit? Sophomore
Mackenzie Cope, that’s who. She’s a
cheerleader for Baldwin on the Varsity
Team, and she used to cheer for
Normandy Athletic Association.
Mackenzie’s not only a star athlete,
but also exceptional student with a GPA
above 3.0. Mackenzie has been cheering for nine years. She has cheered for
Baldwin for three years. She started
cheering when she was seven years
old.
While many people think cheerleading is an easy sport or not a sport
at all, Mackenzie is here to prove them
wrong.
“Cheerleading is not as easy as
everyone thinks. It takes a lot of practice and determination, but it is very
fun,” said Mackenzie. “I like cheerleading because it takes me to my happy
place, and I am very passionate about
it.”
This star athlete’s spirit isn’t slowing down any time soon. Her goal is to
Mackenzie Cope
one day become a college cheerleader,
and maybe even go professional.

Point/Counterpoint There’s Just Something
Sport Requirements
Are Too Strict
By Samantha Marrero
Baldwin’s requirements for sports
are unfair.
I love sports. Basketball is probably
my favorite sport to play. It’s like my
stress reliever.
You have to maintain a 2.0 GPA
during the 4th quarter to play sports
during your next school year. These
are the requirements because they feel
your education should be taken more
seriously when playing a sport.
Managing a certain GPA for the
4th nine weeks of last year to be able
to play sports in the new school year in
just unfair.
“That is a harsh thing to put the
students through. They shouldn’t get
punished for last year’s GPA,” said
Jalen McDaniel.
I totally agree, because if a student
is trying to change their ways to benefit
themselves, judging them on their past
is a wrong thing to do.
Sports Requirements
Are More Than Fair
By Michaela Shafer
To play a sport, the county rule for
student athletes is they must maintain a
2.0 GPA during the 4th 9-weeks of the
previous year.
A 2.0 is only a C average, which is
considered passing. To be under a 2.0
would be considered failing. Athletics
use the grade from the year before to
show that this student has not slacked
in the past and can handle playing while
maintaining a workload.
If a student can’t maintain a 2.0 in a
lower grade, how can the same student
keep up with higher, more advanced
classes, while playing sports? Previous
low grades + more time taken up with
sports + more advanced classes = more
low grades.
Another reason students need at
least a 2.0 is to show dedication. A student athlete should be able to show they
can push hard and make the grades they
need to play, not only during the season
but also during off season. It proves to
the coaches that these students who are
representing their team can do well on
and off the field, court, or track.
The question students should be
asking isn’t “Why do we have to have
a 2.0 from last year?” but rather, “How
can I do my best so I can play the sport
I love?”
About Mondays
By Genovonna Clincy
Mondays. Who created Mondays?
Some may enjoy them, but if you ask
me they’re the most awful day of week.
I have disliked Mondays since I
began middle school. They continue to
cut my weekends of fun short. They cut
my sleep short, too. They repeatedly
start with my weeks off cranky, sleepy,
and dragging my way to school.
It’s been long going struggle with
Mondays. I try to conquer Mondays
with a positive attitude and go to bed
early on Sundays. But as soon as
I wake up on Monday morning, the
dreadful look never fails to appear on
my face. Dragging around to get ready
for school, you would think I turn into
a zombie on Mondays. They just drain
me of my life.
I know I’m not the only one who
feels this way. Who do Mondays think
they are coming to strip us of our fun?
Starting a five day tour of education on
Monday isn’t fair.
Maybe if Monday wasn’t the beginning of a school week, my dislike
wouldn’t be as strong.
What It’s Like Being A PK
By Madison Woods
To start off with, if you don’t know
what a PK is, it’s a preacher’s kid. It
can be a nice life as well as a not so
nice life.
In my opinion, it’s hard being a PK,
because people expect you to be perfect and not make as many mistakes as
other kids. So you have to be very careful what you let people know, because
they are very judgmental. Church people tend to gossip a lot.
I don’t like being a PK, because I
can’t do a lot of things that other kids
can do. Also I don’t like it because
I’m always in church. I go to church
Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Since
my parents have their own church, I
don’t usually get to go other places with
my friends on church days.
Something I like about being a PK
is that my parents make a lot of money,
so I usually get what I want. But not all
pastors are successful in the church
industry. Some struggle because they
don’t have a big population of people.
There are other PK’s in the church
industry, but we don’t fellowship together unless their church has a special
event. But my dad fellowships with
other pastors and bishops. They usually meet up and go out to eat together,
or wherever they plan.
There are good and bad things
about being a PK.

My Adventures As A
Hollister Employee
By Brandon Benjamin
I work at one of the world’s marque
clothing stores, Hollister. Over 100,000
stores across the globe work together
to make the company millions of dollars. As a brand representative, my job
can get a little tricky sometimes when
it comes to dealing with rude or obnoxious customers, but for the most part it
is a very enjoyable job.
Being that the clothes are mainly bought by teenagers, most of the
employees that work there are teens;
so it’s natural to get along and become
friends with the other associates. From
folding clothes to cleaning coffee up
from the floor, the job offers plenty
of tasks to do throughout your shift.
The most fun part of working there is
the crazy acts the customers put on
throughout the day.
At first, it was unordinary for me
to see two women fighting over a shirt
or pants, but after just a few shifts it
became the usual and quite funny.
From women forgetting to put their
pants back on before exiting the fitting
room, to beastly women undressing in
the middle of the store, I have seen it
all.
On one busy Saturday, our store
was swarmed with buyers, and the
lines for the dressing rooms and the
checkout were ridiculous. Trying to
manage all of the crazed people, it was
just my luck to find a 6 foot beast of a
women undressing in the middle of the
store. When I say undressing, I’m talking undergarments and all. Being it was
only my fourth or fifth shift, I was still
getting used to handling these types of
situations; actually, I don’t think anyone
at Hollister has had to deal this bizarre
of a situation. As you would think,
the bare skinned women was quickly
noticed by what seemed to be every
customer, which, of course, includes
little children.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an outburst full of anger and disgust break out
that fast in my life.
“Aren’t you going to do something,
kid?” people kept yelling at me.
Scared for my life, I approached the
women to stop the ragging mob from
leaving the store without buying, and
I simply tried my hand at explaining to
her why public nudity was not okay.
What seemed to be the right thing to
do was way off. With watery eyes and
pain in her voice, she accused me of
discriminating against her because she
was a plus size.
She even said, “What, you don’t
think all this could get dollars thrown
at it?”
Umm…
Finally, after what seemed to be
forever, the mall security showed up
to remove her from the store. But
she wouldn’t go down without a fight.
Seeing that scrawny short cop roll
around on the floor with the large
women was the highlight of my day. He
finally got his composer and arrested
her and sent the mob into cheers and
applause.
This was only just one of my fun
times with the People of Hollister.
Positive People
By Ceana Thornton
Different people have different
routes to the success for their future,
depending on particular circumstances.
Many kids have big dreams, but when
they tell them to a small minded person,
they feel belittled because of how they
crush their wants and dreams.
Being positive means loving without question, whether you agree with
something or not, you love unconditionally. Sometimes we don’t like people
and we show it unknowingly but sometimes that doesn’t hinder them, it hinders you from moving forward. It’s best
to forgive and leave situations alone,
not because you’re scared but for the
simple fact that no one likes to be
around the angry ones.
The reaction you give to certain
situations says a lot about you. Stand
up for yourself by all means, but do it
with pride and sincerity. Letting things
slide only work for a certain amount of
time, so speak up.
Show your strength and show people you’re not to be dealt with. It’s hard
to hate, it take up too much energy,
which you could use to just move forward.
The majority of this world is cruel.
When we learn to love the universe,
be thankful, and mind our own business we are bound to be prosperous.
Tell someone how much you love them
today. Spread the love.
“Open your eyes,” said Bob Marley,
“look within. Are you satisfied with the
life you’re living?”
Awkward Eye Contact Is
The Worst
By Jessica Malenfant
I sometimes feel as if one of the
worst things in life is when you accidentally make eye contact with someone.
You end up not being sure
whether you should smile
back or try to make that
person think they didn’t
actually make eye contact
with you.
It might just be me
over-thinking things, but I
have always found it hard
to think of what to do next.
For example, when
you’re in a car looking out
the window and you and
the person in the car next
to you make eye contact. Every time
this happens to me, it feels as if someone decided to build the Great Wall
of China in between the cars, but one
where you can still see the other person
through it. Then I’m just sitting there
looking in the other direction, hoping
the car would finally pass our car so I
can continue staring out
the window.
Then there’s the
undeniable awkwardness
that comes with having
someone eat directly in
front of you. This is when
you’re trying to eat but
then get suddenly uncomfortable and look up to
find someone staring
directly at you while eating a burrito.
What do you do? I never know
whether to smile or quickly look away.
Yes, that awkward eye contact
moment is the worst.

Tuccillo and Smith:
Batman and Robin?
Mr. Tuccillo and Coach Smith, or Batman and Robin?
By Micah Drum
Batman and Robin; the Knights of
the night... And the day... And everything in between. The two are an
epic duo, ready at all times to defend
Baldwin Middle Senior-High School
from the darkness that overwhelms it.
They hide underneath masks, concealing their identity, fighting bad guys, and
fighting for justice.
Many would like to know just who
these caped crusaders are to thank
them, or possibly buy them lunch
sometime. This provokes the question;
who are Batman and Robin?
It is in my professional opinion that
the two are none other than Baldwin’s
own, Mr. Tuccillo and Coach Smith.
Now, before you all dismiss the
whole idea entirely, first ask let me ask
you; have you ever seen Tuccillo and
Batman at the same time? Furthermore,
he must be Batman.
Also, Tuccillo has one of the strongest jaw lines I’ve ever seen, perfect for
the impeccable chin behind the mask of
the Dark Knight.
This then begs the question; who
is Robin? Well, the list of possibilities
is long and distinguished. However,
when taken into consideration that Mr.
McLain is respectfully 6’0, while Robin
is respectfully 5’5, and Coach Mullin is
almost always in the gym, that leaves
only a few more people.
Any logical thought process would
narrow this investigation down to
Coach Saoud and Coach Smith, and
the thought of Coach Saoud being
Robin doesn’t make much sense to
me.
Plus, I even asked Coach Saoud
if he was Robin, to which he replied,
“No.” Therefore, the only logical explanation is that Coach Smith is Robin.
“No. I’m nobody’s sidekick,” said
Coach Smith.
Nobody’s sidekick, huh? Have
you ever seen Coach Graham without
Coach Smith right by his side? Didn’t
think so.
Also, of course he would deny it. If
he were indeed Robin he would do anything to throw an investigator such as
myself off the trail. Furthermore, Coach
Smith would deny all ties to the masked
Boy Wonder.
Secondly, let me ask you all something; have you ever seen Coach Smith
and Robin in the same room? All of this
is concrete evidence that Coach Smith
is in fact the masked Boy Wonder.
Many students at Baldwin, however, don’t find it necessary to exploit the
identities behind the masked vigilantes.
“Their identities are completely
irrelevant because they are more than
men - – they are symbols. They send a
message to criminals to fear the dark
and tell the common man that anyone
can be a hero. That’s the thing about
them, they have ascended from being
mere mortals. They are heroes. If you
do know who they are, I don’t care
to for I already know who they are.
They are Batman and Robin!” said Ben
Pittman, a senior.
I, unlike Mr. Pittman, am curious,
and with the leads I’ve acquired on this
case I’m closer than ever to uncovering the true identities behind the caped
crusaders. I will stop at nothing to prove
my theory correct, that Mr. Tuccillo and
Coach Smith are indeed Batman and
Robin.
Disrespectful Students Need An Attitude Check
By Megan Rosier
Since when has it become okay
for students to disrespect their teachers? Some students talk down to their
teachers just as they talk down to one
another, not that talking down to one
another is any better.
Too often students get upset with
teachers because they don’t have the
grade they feel they deserve. Even
though the student may not have
earned it, they still get upset with the
teacher. Teachers are doing their jobs,
but some students continuously attack
them personally.
“Students think that they don’t get
enough respect from the teachers so
they don’t give them as much respect,”
said sophomore Morgan Denmark.
The students need to learn that no
matter the situation, they are the kids
and the teacher is the adult.
“I think it’s awful and parents should
teach their kids to respect adults no
matter what. Some teachers don’t do
anything about it and that allows kids
to continue to disrespect and run over
them,” said Brooke Sappe, a junior.
Not all parents know that their kid
is coming to school and being disrespectful. Some students believe that
they can come to school and get away
with it, because teachers can’t do much
about it except argue back or write a
referral. Some teachers don’t want to
write referrals because they know that
the punishment doesn’t always fit the
crime.
Attitudes have gotten so unacceptable that schools are losing teachers
and it has become hard to find teachers
to hire. More and more adults have lost
interest in teaching due to all the disrespect many students show towards
the adults.
“I understand why someone
wouldn’t want this job because of it,”
said Mr. Kelly, the art teacher.
Most teachers believe they have
done as much as they can. There is
only so much they can do to handle the
situation. But what happens once it’s
taken to the office? The office does the
best they can because they are having
to follow a district plan.
“Teachers help us with our future,
the least we could do is give them
the respect they deserve,” said Shelby
Underwood, a sophomore.

because I didn’t hear the announcements.
Mr. Ferguson – I accidentally spit
on a girl while talking.
Mr. Stenbeck – I tripped over a
computer table in class.
Mr. Smith – I taught a whole class

walking around, when I went to sit on
the edge of my desk I sat one of the
cupcakes.
Mrs. Murfin – One time I was
coaching volleyball and I didn’t realize
the bleachers were behind me and I
feel back into them.
Mr. Deane – My zipper broke and
I didn’t have a spare pair of pants with
me.
Mrs. Gunnoe – When I fumble over
words.
Mrs. Bukowski – Someone threw
something at the board while I was
teaching and I thought it was a roach
so I went running and screaming out of
the classroom.
Mr. Bunn – When my students and
I got moved to another teacher’s class
for testing and the students destroyed
the room and I got in trouble.
Mr. McLain – One year while I was
teaching my Photoshop class, the kids
were using the spot healing brush. I
told one of the boys that he did a good
job on that one, but the boy turned
around and said, “That’s my dad”. I
was shocked, but then a few seconds
later he said, “No, I’m just kidding. I
searched drug addicts on the internet”.
Mrs. Kirk – I ripped my pants while
playing volleyball.
Mr. Atkins – At my old school I was
walking out of the restroom and I had
toilet paper coming out of my pants, so I
grabbed it and pretended like I had it to
blow my nose and threw it away.
Mrs. Winter – My first year teaching we went on a field trip and all my
kids pretended they had to use the
bathroom and never came back, so I
had to call the principal.
Mrs. Seagraves – I locked my keys
in my closet and I thought my kids had
them and I blamed them for it. I later
found them in my closet and felt bad for
blaming them.
Mr. Kelly – I had an office in the
back and I had my computer plugged
in. I went to answer a student and
tripped over the cord to my computer
and it fell off the stand and it broke.
Mrs. Norris – I spilled a whole cup
of Starbucks coffee all over me and my
computer.
Mrs. Dechman – I came to school
with two different shoes on.
Mrs. Jones – I was opening bio
supplies and I cut myself with my scissors and it got all over my white pants.
Mrs. Domenech – We were doing

What’s Causing Your
Acne?
By Rachel Taylor and
Gabriella Tanner
Acne, we all get it. Acne is
a struggle that most teens face
every day, but what is acne?
Acne is the occurrence of
inflamed or infected sebaceous
glands in the skin caused by
bacteria in the skin.
Acne can be caused by
many contributing factors of
everyday lifestyle.
Touching your face, oils
in your skin, dirty sheets, pillowcases, hats, and towels are
all some of the main sources of
acne problems.
The symptoms of acne are painful pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads on
the face, neck, back, or chest.
Treatment options can come in many different forms such as peroxide or
salicylic acid. There are also options like commercial products, such as Proactive,
Clearasil, Clean and Clear, and so many others.
Acne is a normal thing that everyone gets at some point in their life. There are
many different ways of curing acne and dealing with the issue.

The Holiday Treat You
Should Not Feel Guilty
About
By Christina Goodrich
It’s officially the end of the holiday season and that means we have
the guilt of eating all the holiday food
throughout October, November, and
December. Even as your Halloween
candy stash reduces, and all the
Thanksgiving food is just emptying
out of your system, we feel the guilt.
Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and
rolls are all traditional holiday fare that’s
not so diet friendly, but we all eat. But
there might have been nutritional bright
spots on your holiday table, if you
munched on the proper nuts plucked
from that piece of pecan pie.
Pecans are packed with hearthealthy fats, protein, vitamins and minerals. A study at Loma Linda University
demonstrates that pecans may help
contribute to overall heart health and
disease prevention by increasing the
amount of antioxidants in the body.
Pecans improve blood cholesterol
when eaten in moderation. In addition,
they contain more than 19 vitamins and
minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin
E.
The protein and fiber contents in
pecans are worthy of praise as well.
Just a 1-ounce serving can provide 11
percent of the necessary daily value
for fiber. And for protein content, a half
ounce can take the place of 1 ounce of
meat.
Munching on handfuls of these
nuts keep you feeling full and energetic
while not threatening your waistline.
When pecans are paired with sugary or salty toppings or mixes, go easy
on the trimmings. Even though pecans
are a great source of nutrients, you
need to look beyond the pecan pie.

Endometriosis Effects
Almost 2 Million Women Holiday Weight
By Kayleigh Powell
Endometriosis effects an estimated
176 million women. The disease has
been found in nearly every organ of
the body including the pelvic cavity,
spleen, kidney, heart, lungs, eyes and
even on the brain. The stigma with this
“hidden” disease is that since there are
no diagnostic tests that can diagnose
one with this disease, many women
are left to suffer for an average of 8 to
12 years.
“Endometriosis makes me feel like
a prisoner in my own body,” said Erin
Modglin.
To date, the only way to positively
diagnose endometriosis is via a laparoscopy with pathology confirmation.
In rare cases, endometriosis has been
documented to be found in men. There
are different theories as to what causes
this disease. However, due to lack of
research, none of these theories have
been scientifically proven nor do they
explain the full mechanism of endometriosis.
At the moment, there are no known
treatments which fully cure endometriosis. Invasive surgery to include
excision of the disease is the “gold
standard” for not only diagnosing but,
as well, removing the disease. Since
there is no cure, recurrent surgeries
are often required. Studies reflect the
average cost of having endometriosis
is $10,486 per year.
The most common symptoms of
this disease are “killer cramps” and
infertility. Since this disease is known
to affect women during their prime
years, the killer cramps are often dismissed by medical professionals and
not addressed until infertility becomes
a concern.
With this said, endometriosis does
not equal infertility. There are currently
less than 100 specialists in the United
States whom practice excision of this
disease. While endometriosis can be
debilitating for many, very few have
luck receiving disability assistance for
this disease since it is not noted to be
terminal.
Teens Need Healthy
Eating Habits
By Mya Morrison
Eating well is crucial for growing teenagers because their nutrient
needs are getting higher. Most teenagers don’t meet the recommendations
for whole grains, fruit and vegetable
intake.
Eating healthy can be difficult for
teens because they get distracted from
eating healthy by going out with friends
and eating junk foods and snaking on
foods that might drain their energy.
When you eat like this, you take in a
lot of calories, mostly from unhealthy
sugar and fat, which increases the risk
for obesity.
“If teens ate healthy they would
have less health issues and might have
more energy throughout the day,” said
Arilyse Hernandez, an 11th grader.
Sugary beverages contribute to
excessive weight gain and obesity.
Even 100 percent fruit juice can contain a pure source of sugar and fiber.
Water is the best and healthiest option.
Seltzer is another healthy option, or diet
sodas consumed in small portions.
Portion size is important to maintain to achieve a healthy weight size.
You should fill half of your plate with
nonstarchy vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, carrots and green beans.
It is important to include iron rich food
such as beef, chicken, fish and shellfish because iron carries oxygen to
muscles. It helps the brain function and
also helps the immune system to fight
off diseases.
“Size portions are necessary
because that is a part of eating healthy
knowing how much to eat because
there’s no point in eating three full
plates of food knowing that is bad for
your health,” said Kahirah Stevens, an
11th grader.
“Overall eating healthy is good for
you and to maintain having a healthy
body and weight, you should definitely
eat right,” said Abigail Sell, a 7th grader.

1-Cut the soft drinks. Drinking water
or all natural juice will reduce your carb
intake drastically.
2-Eat dark leafy greens. Kale and
spinach are full weight loss boosting
antioxidants. Eating more of the items
in your diet will increase the health of
your skin and help you to lose weight.
3-Cranberry and grapefruit juice.
In a scientific study, drinking 8 oz. of
either cranberry or grapefruit juice after
every meal helped about half the participants drop pounds.
4-Ice cold water not room temperature. Ice cold water is proven to speed
your metabolism and increase weight
loss.
5-Eat often, not less. Eating healthy
snacks in between meals helps your
metabolism to keep running and therefore helps you shed weight faster.
6-Exercise. I’m not talking about
running a marathon or training for the
Olympics either. Take the stairs instead
of the elevator, take a walk or run when
you’re bored, just get up and move!
7-Sleep! It’s difficult for our body’s
functions to work properly when you
don’t get the proper amount of beauty
rest. Do your metabolism a favor, and
go to sleep an hour early tonight.
8-Cut out white carbs. This one is
tough. Potatoes, rice, bread, and all of
our favorite food friends are filled with
carbs. Cut the carbs, lose the weight.
9-Stop being the midnight snacker.
You know how when it’s your bed time,
you kind of just shut down? Yeah, well
so does your body. Stop feeding it past
9:00 pm while it’s trying to sleep and
your food will digest better.
10-Eat protein when you feel like
you need to binge. Nuts, chicken and
eggs are super filling foods that come
in dozens of recipes and are great for
cravings.

How To Have A Healthy
Lifestyle
By Ceana Thornton
A healthy lifestyle begins with
taking care of your body; taking care
of your body begins with your intake.
The kitchen is the essential key to a
healthier way of life, without a good
and heathy diet, you won’t be able to
function the right way. This healthy life
starts with nine ingredients that are
great in the kitchen.
Avocados are packed with vitamins C, K, and B6, which help to
make you feel full to keep from snacking. They consist of unsaturated fat
that keep the gut healthy.
Green juice is referring to any mix
of fruit, vegetables, or protein that
help the body. These help detox the
body for any impurities.
Apple Cider Vinegar helps the
body maintain a healthy alkaline pH
level, which helps prevent fatigue,
weight problems, acne, and heartburn.
Coconut Oil elevates the HDL
levels in your body and reduces heart
disease. It contains lauric acid, which
has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and
antiviral properties.
Fish is a great source of omega3 fatty acids, a polyunsaturated fat
that is anti-inflammatory. It helps with
digestion of foods.
Turmeric is an herb that is famous
for its ability to target inflammation.
Adding this to a tea, a soup, or any
food is great.
Garlic is great for targeting the
immune system. The antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties
are always great for targeting such.
Ginger gets rid of inflammation at
the blink of an eye.
Manuka Honey is good for an
alternative sweetener to sugar. It’s
antibacterial so adding it to a tea or
any drink is amazing.
These are all great beginner
essentials to starting a healthy diet
or a healthier lifestyle. Keep these in
your kitchen; you will already have
a start for being healthy. May you
and your body be thankful for these
essentials. Take care of your body,
it’s the only one you have.

Long-Term Veganism Is
An Internal Nightmare
By Gabriella Tanner and Paige Meadows
Veganism is both the practice of
abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals.
The idea of veganism is to create a cruelty free world for humans
and animals. Of course veganism may
sound good on paper, but the long term
effects aren’t taken into consideration
by the participants.
This way of life is often sparsely
researched, so most proprietors don’t
understand the potential harm it can
create. There are many nutrients that
the body needs, and on a vegan diet
the body isn’t receiving the dietary
factors it needs. Without meeting the
dietary needs of the body that are only
found in animal fats such as butter,
lard, egg yolks, fish oils, and other fatrich cellular membranes such as liver,
other organ meats, fish eggs, and shell
fish, the other nutrients in the body can
largely go to waste.
Some of the long term effects of
a strict veganism diet include vitamin
B-12 deficiency, osteoporosis or low
calcium in the bones resulting in lower
bone density, and iron deficiency.
In turn, veganism can be seen as
a great health and lifestyle choice, but
is actually an internal nightmare for the
body.
Breast Cancer Survivors
Tattoo Their Scars
By Jasmine Louis – Jacques
Mastectomies are surgeries on
patients who have breast cancer.
These surgeries remove all and/or part
of the breast and are life-saving. The
down side of these surgeries is that
they leave scars. Emotional scars of
the journey they’ve been through and
how they look now, and physical scars
on the breast that usually end up with
the loss of a nipple.
Because of these scars, many
women who have gone through these
surgeries have serious insecurity
issues. Some women who have had
their whole breast removed feel like
less of a woman without their breast.
Others get insecure that the scarring
no longer makes them beautiful, even
though they are no less of a woman
than the bustiest women around. These
things do not define them and some
tattoo artists have come about to help
these survivors realize that.
P.Ink is short for “Personal Ink”.
P.Ink is a gateway that helps breast
cancer survivors meet up with experienced tattoo artists who specialize in
creating beautiful tattoos to cover up
the scars left by their mastectomies.
In October, for a weekend only,
tattoo shops across the country hold
an all-day free tattoo session solely for survivors. This experience has
changed the way women all over feel
about themselves. Even family come
and get tattoos (not on their breasts, of
course) in support of their survivor.
Some women feel as if the tattoos
are a final sense of closure, to be done
with that rigorous chapter of their life
they endured. Others take it as a different perspective into breast cancer,
seeing it as no longer a dark time and
they have beautiful ink to show for it.
The Truth About Calories
By Casey Millan and Regan Brobst
It’s a national obsession to count
calories and limit the amount of food
we intake in order to lose weight. But is
this really the healthiest option?
A calorie is a unit of energy given
by food, which means when you ingest
calories, the energy from them are
used to perform basic functions in your
body (such as breathing and circulating blood). So even if you did limit the
amount of calories you consume, you
would still have to ingest enough in
order to be healthy.
But how does your body use calories? Your body burns them in a process called metabolism. You can mea-
sure the amount of calories you would
need to consume in order to keep
your body in tip top shape by seeing
a nutritionist, or by taking advantage
of online calculators which determine
the healthy amount dependent on age,
weight and activity level.
It also really matters where your
calories come from. Calories come
from three macronutrients: carb, protein, and fat, all of which you are
probably familiar with. These nutrients
determine how much fuller you feel
after each meal.
So limiting calories can be a tricky
and a tedious job but you should only
do it if you understand the truth about
calories.

Understanding How Diabetes Can Change Your Life
By Ashley Glass
Diabetes is a condition where the
body does not properly process food
for use as energy. Diabetes comes in
a couple different forms, but type 1 and
type 2 are the most common forms.
Most of the food we eat turns into glucose (or sugar), for our bodies to use
for energy.
“Diabetes is the 7th leading cause
of death in the United States,” according to Centers for Disease Control
(CDC).
The pancreas is an organ that is
located near the stomach. It makes
the hormone called insulin to help
glucose get into the cells of our bodies. When you’re diabetic, your body
doesn’t make enough or can’t use its
own insulin as well as it should. It can
cause build up in your blood.
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults.
About 5-10% of people with diabetes
have type 1. Type 2 diabetes is the
most common form.
“I have type 1 diabetes. If my sugar
The Benefits Of Eating
Vegetables
By Jordan Bomhold
Eating vegetables obviously is a
healthy habit, but many people don’t
know just how many benefits vegetables have.
Vegetables are important sources
of many nutrients including potassium,
dietary fiber, folate or folic acid, vitamin
A and vitamin C. Diets rich in potassium may help to maintain healthy
blood pressure.
Vitamins A and C could help
strengthen a person’s immune system
and fight the common cold and other
sicknesses.
Potassium has other benefits for
the body like relief from stroke, heart
and kidney disorders, anxiety and
stress, as well as enhanced muscle
strength, metabolism, water balance,
electrolytic functions, can also help a
person’s nervous system.
There are other good properties
that can be found in different vegetables such as many other vitamins
like vitamin K, B8, B12, and vitamin D.
Things like iron and magnesium can be
found in things like carrots.
What benefits you get from the
vegetables all depends on which ones
you’re eating. Carrots help eye sight
and spinach is packed with nutrients
good for a person’s skin and hair. It
also provides protein, iron, with vitamins and many different kinds of minerals.
It is a very good habit to eat vegetables because of all the good benefits
they have for the body.
spikes up, it makes me tired and gives
me a headache, so I become very irritable. If it drops, my muscles start to
ache and I get sweaty. Also, I become
very irritable when it becomes low,
because I just ache everywhere and
just want to feel better,” said Darcie
Moore, a Palatka High School student.
“It’s hard to deal with, because I see
all of my friends eating whatever and I
can’t, or when I want to take my insulin
and people don’t know about it, they
look at me funny when they see me
do it.”
“I have type 2 diabetes. It affects
my life due to my pancreas not producing insulin. It’s caused me to have
preeclampsia during both of my pregnancies, causing my children to be big
when they were born and I almost lost
my life,” said Jessica Glass. “I have to
prick my finger 4-8 times a day, take a
shot every time I eat, and have to catch
my blood sugar before it drops too low
or gets too high.”
Eating healthier, getting more
exercise, and losing excess weight can
help you prevent getting diabetes.
The Bad Effects Of
Caffeine
By Hannah Drum and Jenna Sykes
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant added to many foods
and drinks to relieve drowsiness. The
need for caffeine in many people is an
outstanding amount. Drinks like soda,
coffee, tea, and energy drinks all have
caffeine in them.
Regular use of caffeine can have
negative side effects. Caffeine is a
drug and can be dangerous if over
used. It is most popular among adults
and teenagers. Many drink it for the
energy, although they may enjoy the
taste.
“I drink sweet tea and soda a lot. I
don’t really rely on it for energy, I just
like the taste,” said sophomore Shelby
Underwood.
Within 24 hours of quitting the
drug, withdrawal symptoms may occur.
Dizziness, headaches, and lack of alertness are a part of these side effects.
90% of people around the world
consume at least one meal or drink
with caffeine in it daily. It has a negative
effect on over 90% of high schoolers’
sleeping patterns. Many rely on it to
stay awake.
“I rely on energy drinks or coffee
when I need an extra energy boost,”
said sophomore Sam Pittman.
If one is not immune to the amount
of caffeine they consume they may feel
jittery, or feel agitated or nervous. Many
crave it when they don’t have it.
“When I’m tired and can’t keep
my eyes open, all I want and crave is
an iced coffee. The addiction is pretty
bad,” said sophomore Hannah Corbin.
People need to be aware of the
side effects of caffeine. When it comes
down to it, caffeine is bad!

ISSP Q&A with Mrs.
Goodman
Baldwin Now Offering
After School Supervision
By Sam Pittman and Hunter Schuchart
By Njyia Wilson
Do you think ISSP helps students
learn their lesson?
“If done correctly, yes. It must be
made to be unforgettable and if students don’t like it then they won’t come
back,” said Mrs. Goodman. What are some of the problems
you face in ISSP?
“Getting the work from the teachers, because the students have to do
something. If they don’t, then the students will have to do something that I
have to give,” said Mrs. Goodman. Dr. Hall has brought an amazing
new after school program to Baldwin
Middle Senior High, a program for
any student at Baldwin to attend.
Community Enrichment is a fee-based
afterschool program where students
can be in a supervised area, and get
help with homework, and have access
to computers.
“This program is very educational,
for homework on computers. Also I
like hanging out with my friends after
school,” said 7th grader Marcus Almon.
Parents pay $100.00 a month for
their child to stay at the library after
school from 2-6pm. This program is
great for working parents to feel safe
Do you think kids should be sitting in ISSP or in class?
“In class, because this is counter
productive because they need to be
learning,” said Mrs. Goodman.
Is Baldwin Safe?
What do you think about kids
who want to come to ISSP?
“They are struggling in their classes, there is a dislike, or they don’t want
to do the work,” said Mrs. Goodman.
What do you like about ISSP?
“I like to hear your opinions and
I stand up for you when I think you’re
right,” said Mrs. Goodman.
Do you think kids should get
sent to ISSP for tardies?
“The importance of being late to
jobs is very high because you need to
about their kids being under an adult’s
supervision rather than going straight
home after school and being alone for
hours. This especially helps parents of
students in middle school.
“We get to do fun activities, like
sometimes we can go outside to play
football or play games after we finish
our homework,” said 6th grader Marvin
Kilpatrick.
Community Enrichment has just
started and hopefully will grow over the
school year. It is truly a great program
for kids to not only to get help with their
classroom homework but also to have
fun and reach their goals.
“I wish more people would come. It
could help them get better grades,” said
7th grader Devin Neeley.
By Jimmy Hall and Jonathan Hall
Mrs. Goodman
learn for the future and be on time. So
yes, they should get in trouble,” said
Mrs. Goodman.
School might feel safe to some
people, but to some school is a place of
chaos. But at Baldwin, there are safety
protocols so that the students will feel
safe.
IDs most be warn at all times so we
know who is supposed to be here.
“School, so many guards, so many
administrators, why would one say they
feel unsafe? Anyone could easily say
they feel safe on school grounds due to
these reasons,” said Camrhon Lockett.
School is a place of learning and
fun. It should never be a place of
fighting and fear. Baldwin has many
administrators and security guards to
maintain safety and order.
“I believe school is a safe haven for
most kids. I like the fact that the gates
are closed during school hours,” said
HA’lley Hobbs.
The gates keep out people who
might want to harm the students.
Additional gates were built just a few
years ago.
Code Red and Code Yellow are
great procedures that keep students
safe from the threats outside school
grounds. Baldwin has drills to practice
these procedures so that students will
know what to do in case of a real threat.
“Code Yellow is a protocol that

a danger in the area,” said Antonio

Safety at school is a major part of
a child’s life. They will not forget how
they felt at school. Baldwin is working
hard to assure students receive a safe
education.
Teachers Brought The Heat
To The Kitchen In Their
Chili And Dessert Cook Off
By Michaela Shafer
In December, the teachers’ annual
Chili and Dessert Cook Off took place
as the teachers at Baldwin brought the
heat to the kitchen. Taking home first
place in the Chili Cook Off were Mr. and
Mrs. Shields, while over in the Dessert
Category for the second time was Dr.
Hall, with her famous banana pudding.
When holidays and special events
were just around the corner, Baldwin’s
community-mentality really shone
through, so something like these cook
offs gave the teachers a tasty break.
Also, a little friendly competition never
hurt anyone.
“That was my second time winning.
Since you can’t win two years in a row I
won our first year [2013], and this one,”
said Dr. Hall. “My unknown secret is
that my husband made it. I love winning
but next year it’s the chili I want to win.”
This big day really gets the teachers pumped up. Who knew food could
make people so happy?
“What’s not to love about the Cook
Off? The Shields’ chili was the bomb,”
said Ms. Domenech.
From the hot to the sweet, there
were many different arrays of meats
and seasonings. The Shields made
their chili together for the perfect combination to satisfy the majority, taking
home the prize.
“I felt extremely honored to win the
contest. My husband put in the secret
ingredient which helped us win. That
was the first chili we ever made,” said
Mrs. Shields.

The Walking Dead: A Mid-Season Review
By Micah Drum
This season of AMC’s, “The Walking Dead” has been nothing short of actionpacked and dramatic. Thankfully, now that the mid-season finale has aired, and
we won’t have to experience a roller coaster of emotions until the next episode comes out in February;
however, I feel it necessary to decompress and reflect
on the well-done half season.
The first half of this season was an emotional
roller coaster to say the least, but it was very well
done. The writers knew just which heartstrings to pull,
nearly killing off two of the fan base’s favorite characters. This spoke to fans in a way that they had never
known before, but the message was clear; nobody is
safe.
It seems as though this first half of the season,
no matter how good things were going, it was all too
good to be true. First we find refuge in a walled community, and then the walls are struck down. Next we
find hope in a new civilization, and then they mess
everything up by being stupid. Not to mention, there
was a massacre so great that it made Braveheart
look like Barney and Friends. It seems as though no
matter how good things were, this is the way that the
world was going to be now (speaking from the show’s
perspective, of course).
Perhaps the biggest scare came when presumably, Glenn was dead, and
Rick’s fate was undetermined. But alas, the two fan-favorites were somehow
resurrected in a crazy turn of events, just when we thought all hope was lost. Our
heroic zombie-fighters are now safe at last (for now). But not all is sunshine and
rainbows now, because as we’ve learned through the
years, nothing in this show can ever last.
The walls were made vulnerable in the attack by
the Wolves, which left a herd of walkers to invade the
camp. At the end of the finale, we see that Rick and
the group engage in a plan that gets them out safely,
covering themselves with the stench of the dead, disguising themselves as such to save their own lives.
This plan looked not only to be effective, but made
for an awesome scene which I believe is worthy of an
Oscar, Grammy, Super Bowl, and Stanley Cup trophy.
All in all, the season was fantastic, but the series
is far from over. After the mid-season finale, the producers decided to show an epic Prologue, hinting at
the introduction of the show’s biggest and baddest
villain, Negan Saviors.
Could the introduction of this new villain mean
trouble for Rick and the group? Will somebody die?
Is Sam quite possibly the worst character ever to be
on this show? If you answered ‘No’ to either or all of
those questions, you are indeed wrong, because Sam
is in fact the worst, people die all the time in this show
(against the viewer’s better judgment), and Negan…
Well… You’ll find out.
Limitless, The Television Glee Is Still Popular,
Series, Has Great Reviews Even In Reruns
By Paige Meadows
A new television show has been
introduced on CBS, an adaptation
of a well known 2011 movie, called
Limitless.
In both the movie and the television show, a man takes a “street drug”
called NZT. This drug allows the consumer to use their full brain power for
an allotted amount of time.
On the show, the main character,
Brian Finch, is recruited by the Federal
Bureau of Investigation to help solve
crimes, since he mysteriously does not
face the side effects of the pill. But little
does the FBI know, Eddie Morra, main
character of the 2011 movies, got to
Brian first with a shot that allows him
to bypass the side effects of the drug
in exchange for information from the
inside.
Although CBS has only aired eleven episodes so far, it seems to have
good reviews among the crowd.
“I get excited to see the new episode every week,” said retiree Gloria
Vickers.
According to IMDB, the average
review of viewers is 8 out of 10 stars.
(imdb.com)
“It’s very interesting so far,” said
stay-at-home mom, Jackie Meadows.
“I watched the Pilot and it looked
cool,” said freshman Julie Taylor.
This is definitely projected to be a
favorite among mystery lovers.

A television show has been catching the eyes of our BMSH students.
That show is called Glee. It was recently cancelled in May due to difficulties
with the cast moving onto new opportunities, but the lessons it has taught so
many young adults lives on.
The show was about a young
Rachel Berry and her search to be a
star, beginning with her auditioning for
the high school Glee Club. Little did
she know, she would meet people that
would change her outlook on her career
and friends forever. The show has been
getting tons of attention lately, even
though it’s been cancelled.
“Glee will always be my favorite

“I really liked Glee. It was sad when

Obviously, a lot of people still enjoy
the show and watch the reruns.
Even in reruns, Glee is a hit.

Mike McCain C/O 2013 Daniel Krawczyk
C/O 2012
By Meredith Sprague and
Carissa Young
Mike McCain graduated in the year
2013. He recently started his junior
year at Southeastern University. He
is double majoring in Multidiscipline
Studies and Organizational Leadership.
“Since I am double majoring in Multidiscipline Studies and
Organizational Leadership, I am learning how to interpret scripture, preach,
study the Bible, and study leadership
practices,” said Mike.
Mike plans on merging the two
majors and working for international
relief organizations. He also plans to
pastor a church.
“What I like about Mike is that he
is a caring and passionate person. He
has a passion not only for running, but
for life. Mike tends to bring out the best
in others,” said Coach Young, the boys
Cross Country coach at Baldwin.
At Baldwin, Mike was a part of
the Cross Country Team. He continues his running career at Southeastern
University.
“Mike was a great runner, consistently doing well in races. As a
teammate and training partner, he is
irreplaceable. He is not just a teammate
to me, but a brother,” said Micah Drum,
a senior at Baldwin.
Mike’s personal record for a 5k
(3.1 miles), while running for Baldwin,
was 19:23. At college, he runs 8k races
(5 miles). His personal record for an 8k
in college is 32:00.

Billy Hayes C/O 1997
By Hunter Dozier and Payton Moynihan
In 1997, Billy Hayes graduated from
Baldwin Middle-Senior High School.
Today, Billy is working at Centurion
Auto Transport where he has made his
way from diesel mechanic to service
manager over the years. When paying
visits to Baldwin these days, he is not
coming to play basketball, as he did all
his years of attending, or hanging out
with friends. Now he comes to support
his daughter Payton Moynihan, who is
a current senior.
Billy also has two younger daughters, Lyla and Bailly, with his wife
of nine years Angel Hayes. In spare
time, Billy enjoys attending church at
Old Plank Road Baptist Church, where
he also serves as the mens minister,
playing basketball and supporting the
Georgia Bulldogs at their games with
his family.
Eighteen years ago, Baldwin was
a much different school from the one
students see today.
“When I started at Baldwin, there
was no sixth grade. We didn’t have
anything like all the technology the kids
have access to today and the student
culture in the 90’s was different than it
is today, but from what I see a lot of it
seems to be making a comeback,” said
Billy.
While trendy clothing styles and
popular phrases come and go, some
parts of Baldwin always remain the
same.
“Some of my favorite memories
are of hanging out with my friends after
school at Stokes,” said Billy.
The hang out spot is still a place
that Indians frequent, even after all
these years.
When in school, Billy was not
the most outgoing person and was
even voted Most Bashful in the Senior
Superlatives.
“I used to wish that I could go back,
but my high school years were not my
Billy Hayes
so called “glory years” and I am very
happy with where I am now,” said Billy.
From the first day of sixth grade to
the turning of the tassels at graduation,
Baldwin students constantly hear that
once you’re an Indian it is for life.
“I do think that going to Baldwin
helped me become the person I am
today because the friendships and
relationships people form there are
somehow different from other schools.
Though you may not keep in touch with
most people, there is always a bond
that was made over our years there,”
said Billy.
As most people looking back on
high school memories do, there are
certain times when you wish you could
go back and give yourself some advice.
So you give it to the next generation in
hopes they do not make some of same
mistakes.
“Make sure to set high but realistic
goals for yourself and always do your
best at working hard to achieve them,”
said Billy Hayes.

Jaivon Thomas
C/O 2014
By Crystal Cameron
Baldwin alumni Jaivon Thomas
graduated in 2014 and is beginning to
make a name for himself.
Jaivon attends North Carolina
Wesylan College and plays starting
cornerback for their football team, as
well as majoring in business with a
minor in sports medicine.
“The most difficult part about being
in college is managing my time between
classes, practice, and film session during the day. Studying takes up my
nights so I get less sleep,” said Jaivon.
Though it may be challenging for
some, he does it with ease. Being that
he is the baby of his family and one of
the few to go to college, there are a lot
of odds stacked against him. But he is
determined to prove those who doubted him wrong. When he sets his mind
to something and takes the time to put
in the work required to be successful,
nothing will stand in his way.
“Jaivon is a great human being
who puts his family, more specifically
his mom and his brother, his school,
and his education first and will do great
things in life,” said Coach Graham.
Graduating from a small school in
an even smaller town and then venturing off into the real world is a huge
accomplishment for Jaivon, but he will
never forget where he came from.
“JT Money? That’s my cousin man.
I only played with him for one year
but I loved it. He brought so much fun
to every practice and game. He’s a
good dude, funny too,” said senior and
Jaivon Thomas
Varsity football player Kolby Wilcox.
“To the class of 2016, keep your
head in the books, stay on top of your
work and don’t slack off. The fun will
come later,” said Jaivon.

High School Bucket List
Compiled By Meagan Johnson
Things to do before you graduate:
Take a trip with your closest friends.
Go to prom. You may regret not
going in the future.
Attend a school event you normally
wouldn’t.
Tell the teachers that meant something to you just that.
Take a video walking from class to
class.
Make an audio recording of you
having a conversation with your friends.
Make a playlist of songs you played
the most.
Make a time capsule.
Take a picture with all of your close
friends.
Talk to someone you’ve never spoken to before.
Thank the school staff including the
secretary, custodian, etc.
Apologize to someone you’ve treated poorly.
Tell a crush you like them.
Spring clean your social media.
You don’t know who sees it.
Love yourself. High school can be
stressful, and people can be mean. But
don’t put yourself down. You can never
be anyone else.

Baldwin Is Not Your
Trash Can
The Baldwin Booster Club does
a lot of fundraising for the Athletic
Department. They raise money for
many different things such as equipment, uniforms, maintenance, and
food. One way the Booster Club raises
money is by cooking food and selling
it at the games. The problem with the
Booster Club is that after the games,
they leave their trash and they don’t
clean up their mess.
The Indian Trails Staff believes that
the Booster Club could help Baldwin’s
custodians out a lot by taking their
trash with them or at the very least, putting it in the dumpsters. The teachers
and administrators are trying to teach
students to have pride in Baldwin, and
to show that by keeping their school
Many Baldwin students are leaving
their trash behind and not picking it up.
They have no respect for their school.
After lunch, they just leave their trash
on the tables and throw all types of
bottles on the floor. It’s disgusting and
they should be ashamed. Baldwin is a
school of learning, not a trash can.
The Indian Trails Staff believes that
students should start picking up after
themselves and show respect to their
school.
Some Baldwin students would rather throw their trash on the ground than
walk two feet to throw the trash into the
garbage. Some Indian Trails Reporters
went to the lunch room after the middle
school students got done with lunch.
While walking through the lunch room
they saw how students threw trash next
to the trash can, but not in it. There
was more trash on the ground around
the trash cans than actually inside the
trash cans.
The cafeteria isn’t the only problem
area. Every classroom has at least
one trash can, yet students just throw
their trash on the floors. Teachers are
constantly telling students to pick up
their trash, yet they leave it on tables,
in desks, and on the floors.
Another major problem is the restrooms. Some students will take the
toilet paper and unroll the whole roll of
toilet paper and spread it all across the
restrooms. Later, when people actually
need toilet paper, there isn’t any left.
The Indians Trails Staff thinks
everyone should come together to
help keep Baldwin clean. Every student should throw trash in the garbage
cans and be respectful about keeping
Baldwin as clean as possible.
If a visitor comes to Baldwin, we
want this school to be spotless, so
that they could enjoy their visit and
be impressed with how we keep our
school clean.
Students Need Planners
By Savannah Sherman
Many students have no way to really remember an important thing that is
going to happen in one of their classes.
In the past, they always wrote down
important due dates and assignments
in their planners. Not anymore.
The Indian Trails Staff believes
that students need a planner to carry
around in their backpacks. The Staff
hopes that next year, the school will
supply them with planners like they did
in the past.
Many teachers have been getting
really annoyed with students forgetting
to do projects and papers for class.
One way to help students remember
would be to write it in their planner, if
they had one.
Planners help keep the students
organized and keep the students from
forgetting important information. The
planners could have bathroom passes
in them for every week. This would help
teachers see how often students ask to
leave the classroom.
The Indian Trails Staff wishes that
the administration would consider this
for next year. The students need to
have a planner to keep them organized
and keep them from forgetting tests,
projects, and other information.

clean. The Booster Club is working
against the Baldwin staff. The example
they are leaving for students is that it’s
okay to leave your trash for the custodians to pick up.
This is a problem for the janitors
because all the trash after the games is
causing a bigger work load for them. It
helps the football team out a lot when
raising money, but they need to also
worry about the mess they are making
and who has to clean it up.
The Indian Trails Staff believes that
the Booster Club is a wonderful organization and they are very grateful for the
money they raise, but they could make
everyone happy by tossing their trash
into the dumpsters. Baldwin’s staff is
trying to teach students to clean up
after themselves, and the Boosters are
leading by the example that it’s okay
not to clean up after yourself.
Stop Texting While
Driving
By Olivia Rhoden and Malia Holmes
Now a days with all the new technology people don’t know how to function without having their phones in
hand, even when driving. They think
that nothing will happen if they just look
down for a minute, but anything can
happen. You can swerve into someone
else’s lane or even off the road and
lose control. When texting while driving,
you’re putting yourself at risk as well as
anyone else who is on the road, or in
the car with you.
The Indians Trails Staff believes
that while driving, people need to put up
their phones and have them on silent
so they won’t get distracted.
Every year in just Florida, there’s
1.6 million wrecks due from driving
and a majority of those wrecks have
caused people to lose their lives. 3,000
high school students are involved in
accidents each year due to texting.
High school students don’t think texting
is such a big deal until it involves them
or a friend. By then it could be too late.
Putting your phone on silent and away
from you while driving can save you
and another person from getting hurt or
possibly losing their life.
Putting your phone in the glove
box, your purse, or center console can
help keep you from using it while driving. Not messing with a phone or any
kind of technology while driving could
help the rate of car accidents go down.
Would you want to sit in jail for the
rest of your life for man slaughter just
because you got a text or notification on
a social media site? It’s not worth it. Put
your phones down and focus on what’s
happening on the road around you.
New Foreign Language
Classes Are Needed At
Baldwin
By Cory Wilfong
There are roughly 6,500 different
spoken languages all over the world
and by a wide variety of people. There
are a multitude of other languages
being taught at other schools such
as French, Latin, German, Japanese,
Chinese, Russian and many more.
Baldwin only offers Spanish as an
elective class.
The Indian Trails Staff believes
that there should be more languages
available for students to learn. We
expect that if we teach other languages then our school would be a more
diverse center for learning where foreign exchange students are welcomed
and can speak in their native language
to other students.
Learning a new language is an
experience that could change a person’s perception on people from different countries and create a more
comfortable environment for a diverse
student body. There are over one billion people in the world that speak
Mandarin Chinese and if just that one
language is taught along with Spanish,
then Baldwin students would be able
to interact with over a quarter of the
entire world’s population.
The Indian Trails Staff believes
that we can incorporate another foreign language class into next year’s
class selection if we hire a qualified
teacher who can educate Baldwin’s
students.

Super Smash Bros Melee Techniques for the
Tournament Players
By Payton Bomhold
Super Smash Bros. Melee was
released for the Nintendo Gamecube
in 2001. The game since then has
received widespread critical acclaim
for its smooth controls, great graphics
for the time, and hours of replayability.
In April of 2002, the first tournament for
the game began and since then, even
to this day, the tournament scene for
the game has still been strong.
The most popular players in the
tournament scene include Jason
“Mew2King” Zimmerman, Gonzalo
“ZeRo” Barrios, Joseph “Mango”
Marquez, Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma
and Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami. Winners of
these tournaments win huge cash
prizes as well as trophies. Tournament
players use a variety of techniques in
their matches.
First, there’s L-cancelling, which
makes attack lag end quicker. This is
very useful in battle as you can recover from an attack much quicker. This
is done by pressing Z, L or R within 6
frames of the attack landing.
Another important technique is
“short hop fast fall L-cancel” or SHFFL
for short. The process of this requires
doing a short hop by lightly pressing the jump button, attacking in the
air, holding down on the control stick
to fast fall to the ground and using
L-cancelling to speed up the attack
animations. This technique is used for
quickly chaining combos.
The Phandom

YouTube is known as the go to
site when people want to watch videos,
especially people’s favorite YouTubers.
For example, British YouTubers Dan

Phil Lester and Dan Howell both
became famous through YouTube.
They make videos together, but also
have their own accounts. They are best

Dan loved Phil’s videos when

Phil’s social media accounts such as
YouTube, Twitter, and Tumblr. Phil
recognized Dan as his big fan and they
eventually started skyping and texting
until they met. By August 2011, they
started living together.
“Oh my gosh,” said Kim Nobles,
a freshman. “This is going to be long.
Dan and Phil are absolutely my favorite YouTubers. I basically watch their
videos daily and I follow them on every
social media account. Their videos
never fail to make me smile and I love
hearing what they talk about. Dan’s
channel is literally the funniest thing.
He posts videos about his ideas and
beliefs and it is always interesting. Phil,
on the other hand, is a ray of sunshine.
He posts the most random things. He
talks about things he encounters in his
everyday life and the funny people he
meets.”
Dan and Phil have a radio show
called The Dan and Phil Show on BBC
Radio 1. It starts at 7pm and ends at

Then there’s the Wall of Pain
which can only be done by Jigglypuff
and Kirby as they have multiple jumps.
The process involves constantly keeping the opponents away from the ledge
by using back aerials so they eventually fall. This technique is very useful
for easy kills if you use Jigglypuff or
Kirby,
Then there’s the ever-so-popular
wavedashing. This technique is used
by doing a short hop and using either

control stick to the ground so your
character slides along the ground.
This technique is useful in battle
because the game still registers you

Dan Howell was born on June

This technique is used in many tournaments for the vast amount of possibilities you can pull off with this move.
Melee tournaments, according to
others, are lots of fun. Meeting new
people and playing against them all
for the joy of the game is an experience people seem to enjoy. The most
recently announced upcoming tournament is “GENESIS 3” taking place
between January 15th to 17th in San

tournaments held at parties and other
places.
Melee Tournaments, like sports,

WWE 2K16 is a video game based
off of the professional wrestling promotion World Wrestling Entertainment. It
was released October 27, 2015 in the
U.S.A. and October 30, 2015 everywhere else.
It has come out on the PlayStation
3, the PlayStation 4, The Xbox One,
and the Xbox 360. It is the 17th
game in the Smackdown Franchise of
games. The Franchise has changed
names a lot, and the name changes
have been WWF Smackdown, WWE
Smackdown, WWE Smackdown vs
Raw, WWE, and now WWE 2K. The
series has had a lot of success. Some
of the games have gotten Greatest Hits
awards and the majority of the games
have gotten very positive reviews.
The most recent game, WWE
2K16, is very good on all four consoles. On the PS3 and Xbox 360, it
is similar to WWE 2K15 on the same
consoles. On the PS4 and Xbox One,
it is said to be 100 times better than its
predecessor. The reason why WWE
2K15 was bad was because it just felt
like a demo for WWE 2K16.
WWE 2K16 has a lot of new
features and returning features that
were missing from its predecessor. It
has brought back a lot of multi man
matches such as Fatal Four Way TLC
matches. It has a great creation suite.
Its main focus is on the legendary hall
of famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s
career. It goes all the way from when
he was in WCW (World Championship
Wrestling) to his day in ECW (Extreme
Championship Wrestling) and finally
to his days in the World Wrestling
Federation (Now known as World
Wrestling Entertainment). All the
matches are super detailed, realistic,
and fun to watch and play.
It also comes with amazing video
packages that is very detailed and
fun to watch. Another really cool feature exclusive to last gen is custom
soundtracks. It allows you to choose
from any song saved on your PS3
and Xbox 360 and have your custom
superstar, or any superstar, and have
them come out to that song.
Another really fun mode is universe mode. In universe mode, you
take the superstars in the game and
put them on any roster and play it
out. You mold the game to your liking. Another great mode, exclusive to
PS4 and Xbox One, is My Career. My
career lets you create a character and
play as them. You start at the bottom
and rise up till you get into the WWE
Hall of Fame.
WWE 2K16 is the best recent
wrestling game that Yukes and Visual
Concepts have created in a very long
time. The game is phenomenal. It is
fun to play alone or with a friend. This
is an amazing game that is definitely
worth picking up.

Destiny is a multi-open world
game, traveling to Earth, Mars, Venus,
the Moon, and even the Reef (asteroid
belt). Conquering each planet’s terrain
and battling the evil aliens that inherit it
are just a few things you can do while
playing.
If you don’t like playing by yourself,
have someone join your fire team of
up to six players and complete raids
without trying. There are three different
class types available: Hunter, Titan,
and Warlock.
“My favorite class is the Hunter
because of the golden gun special ability,” said Ja’Quez Brown, a junior.
Each class has a “sub class” which
changes up the characters’ play style
and abilities, like grenade throws, and
super charged. For example; the hunter class has the golden gun ability
when super charged, but the sub class
changes it and allows you to have a
kinetic blade which deals electric damage with each strike.
The aliens which you have to slay
depend on the planet and what part of
that planet you are on. The vex, robotic
machines with a exposed core in the
center are found on Venus; the cabal,
giant militarized fighting creatures with
immense firepower are found on Mars;
the fallen, aliens that have inhabited
earth after the darkness took over; and
finally, the hive, which are dark creatures that are born out of the darkness
are found upon the moon.
“The hive is the hardest to slay
because wizards are always spawning
some crazy stuff,” said Justin Gilbert,
a junior.
From traveling to different worlds
and slaying crazy creatures, Destiny is
the game to get your adventure on.

PC Gaming is the most liked

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the
sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 1
and 2 and is increasingly action packed
as you go through the campaign and
online for multiplayer.
This game takes place in the year
2065, 40 years after the events of
Black Ops 2 and climate change, as
well as new technologies have taken
shape over the years. Military technology has progressed to the point where
robotics play a major role in combat,
and both fully robotic humanoid drones
and cyborg super soldiers have been
developed to fight in the battlefield. As
a result, there is speculation and fear
about an eventual robotic takeover. The
game follows a team of Black Ops soldiers, like previous installments in the
Black Ops series.
“This is the game of the century”
said Jaquez Brown, a junior.
With advanced multiplayer gameplay as you run amongst the walls and
eliminate your enemies, Black Ops 3
gives you a plethora of guns and side
arms to enhance your combat capa-
bilities. Grenades and tactical weapons
like flash bangs are still used to build up
a tactical advantage before infiltrating
enemy lines.
“Being able to run on walls and still
use weapons is a huge step towards
elite gaming,” said Tyler Murray, also
a junior.
If this wasn’t enough to satisfy
your gaming needs, Black Ops 3 also
introduces the zombies game mode.
If you get access to the bonus map
“the giant”, you will receive the original
characters from Black Ops 1 and 2;
Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo
Masaki, and Edward Richtofen. As they
battle their way through hordes of endless zombies, they follow the story on
which they left off in the Black Ops 2
zombies map “origins.”
“Zombies are always the best to
play when you’re with friends or family,”
said Justin Gilbert, a junior.
Black Ops 3 was released in
November. It was developed by Treyarch
and was published by Activision. The
game is currently worldwide. If you are
craving some action packed fun, Black
Ops 3 is the game for you.

is some games have either very high
graphics or high resolution, meaning there is a lot of detail in even the
blades of grass that are on the ground.
Most computers don’t, in a simpler
term, have the parts needed to run all
that high resolution gaming, and that’s
where gaming computers come in.
A gaming computer has the same
parts as a regular computer, from the
hard drive to the mother board, which
is the brains of the computer. But what
makes a gaming computer special is
that all these parts can run at a higher
level so that you can enjoy a fun time
playing your day and stress away.
Just remember that when you’re

Triller App For IPhone
By Megan Heck and Hunter Wilcher
A new trending app in the Apple
Store is a video maker called Triller.
IPhone users can use the app to make
videos like a pop star for free.
“The app makes your life not as
boring when it comes to staying home
alone,” said Kayla Stokes, a senior.
The app uses music and technology to allow Triller users to lip sync to
their favorite song in multiple videos,
then mesh all the videos together in different formats.
“Triller is the most fun video app I
have ever used. It really makes me feel
like a pop star,” said Devin Runnels, a
junior.
The app has many controls so
users can really make it their own. On
the app, it allows you to apply a filter
and put the video in fast, slow, or normal pace.
“I’ve heard nothing but good things
about the Triller app. I am definitely
going to download it when I get home
so I can start making cool videos,” said
Autumn Catman.

Sticking to Those
Resolutions
By Miranda Carr
A lot of people have trouble sticking and committing to their New Year’s
Resolutions.
So, here’s a few tips for you, to help
you stick to those wishful goals.
Set a daily reminder on your phone
about your goal. Most people are constantly on their smartphones, so put
those phones to use and remind yourself about your resolution.
Have someone hold you accountable for your goal. Have a good friend
help keep track of your progress and
encourage you to keep on track with
your goal. Being held accountable will
help you feel motivated to accomplish
your goal.
Find a partner who shares the
same common goal as you. Working
with someone who shares a common
goal will help you feel inspired and not
alone. Share tips with each other, create
memories through your goal and keep
each other inspired.
Make a goal that is practical. It is
very hard to accomplish a goal that is
impractical. Start small. If you accomplish your small goal and you’re still not
pleased, set a larger goal.
Start with little achievements, award
yourself for those achievements, and
work your way up to your ultimate resolution. Awarding yourself with something
special for reaching a checkpoint in your
resolution will keep you looking forward
to finishing your goal all together.
THINK POSITIVE! No goal or resolution is easy to accomplish when you
don’t think positive and believe in yourself. Get inspired! You got this!

Baldwin Student Is A
Long Way From Home
Greta Rannu
By Elizabeth Boychuk
Have you ever wondered what it
would be like going to a school in a different country? Sounds scary, doesn’t
it? Baldwin has an exchange student
named Greta Rannu and she is from
Estonia. That is located in Northern
Europe.
Greta is 17 and in 11th grade. What
she misses most about home is the
food and of course her family.
She really likes it here at Baldwin.
“At first it was overwhelming, but
now it is pretty cool here,” said Greta.
Her favorite subject is math. She
says it’s pretty easy for her.
She has been here since the beginning of the year and has participated in
sports like cross country and now she
plays basketball.
Greta is very smart. She made all
A’s and B’s on her first report card.
She is a very determined person who
is looking forward to this year here in
Baldwin.
Key Club Spooks
Crowds At The Zoo
By Kayla Stokes and Taylor Stack
Women’s Key Club recently
spent their time volunteering at the
Jacksonville Zoo. The girls all helped
out to clean and then carve pumpkins
for Spooktacular.
“This was my first time volunteering at Spooktacular to carve pumpkins
and it was a fun experience,” said
Crystal Cameron, a senior in the Key
Club.
The volunteers included Crystal
Cameron, Nykia Grant, Taylor Stack,
Christina Goodrich, Kayla Stokes,
Chancey Boalch, Celine Echevarria,
and the club sponsor Mrs. Fenton.
They all met up with one another at the
Zoo and then each had to clean out 5
pumpkins and they carved as much as
needed.
“Being surrounded by my friends
and helping the community at the
same time was my favorite part,” said
Nykia Grant, a senior in the club.
Spooktacular is an event held
at the Jacksonville Zoo to celebrate
Halloween. This event lasted from
October 16th -18th, 23rd-25th, and
28th-31. It started at 6:30 P.M and lasted until closing time at 10:00 P.M. Every
pumpkin carved by the volunteers was
displayed in Spooktacular. The pumpkins had a Halloween themed design
and lit up the sidewalks. Many families
love going to this special event to see
these spooky carvings and the lights
that are arranged all over the Zoo.
“All the pumpkins looked amazing during Spooktacular,” said Tina
Crowder, a Jacksonville resident who
attended the occasion.

What Theorist Are You? Baldwin Student Joins
The Navy
By Jonathan Hall
Nearly every human being in the
United States has a theory on how
the Big Brother, aka the Government,
works. Even the people who believe the
thought of being a theorist is beneath
them, they have a theory.
Most of the citizens of America fall
in three theorist categories, the Pluralist
Theory, the Elite-Class Theory, and the
Hyper-Pluralist Theory.
The Pluralist theory, or Pluralism,
is the view that politics and decision
making are located mostly in the framework of government; however, they
also think that many non-governmental
groups use their resources to exert
influence. In short, every person has
a voice.
The Elite-class Theory is the total
opposite to Pluralism. They believe that
a small minority, consisting of members
of the economic elite and policy-planning networks, holds the most power
and that this power is independent of
a state’s democratic elections process.
Basically, the people with the cash
have the power.
The Hyper-Pluralists believe that
anyone can change the government
and they believe it is not always for the
better.
So which theorist are you?
Stay Active During The
Winter Time
By Miranda Osborne
Winter is not the time of the year
when people actually want to be
active. Winter is the time when the air
gets colder and the days get shorter
and people don’t really feel like doing
much of anything.
“I hate to be active during the
winter time because it’s so cold,” said
Kaitlyn Fought.
The winter time might not be the
most enjoyable time to be active, but
there are different ways to make sure
you are being active this time of the
year.
Winterize your workout clothes
One reason many people are
not active during the winter time is
because it’s cold. So the best way to
get over the cold is to be prepared
for it. Instead of shorts and a tee
shirt, wear long sleeve thermals and
sweatpants or an athletic jacket and
leggings.
“I love my Nike jacket It’s comfortable and cute so it gets me outside
even when I don’t want to,” said Tarin
Martin.
Take part in winter activities
Make sure you are utilizing the
weather and do activities that you can
only do in the winter time, like ice skating or snowboarding.
“Every time I go to Tennessee for
Christmas, my favorite thing to do is
ice skate. It’s quite a workout,” said
Alison Piscoya Gamboa.
How To Find Volunteer Hours
Jerwaun Brown-Hilson
By Regan Brobst and Casey Millan
The United States Navy has been
a career choice for men and women
for 144 years. Though the Navy is a
necessary force, it can also be a very
uncommon opportunity
One Baldwin student is on the
road to basic training. With no military background in his family, Jerwaun
Brown-Hilson began to show interest
in the United States Navy after talking
with his parents about possible career
choices. After deciding on pursuing a
career in the military, Hilson met with
a recruiter then went on to take the
ASVAB test.
“I thought the ASVAB would be
hard, I’m surprised I passed,” said
Jerwaun.
Then after receiving the test
scores, Hilson and his recruiter went to
MEPS where he completed physical.
After staying in a hotel overnight and
choosing his job he went to meet with
other recruits once a month and then
received a check-up call to make sure
everything was in order.
“The process of getting enlisted
can be very tedious,” said Jerwaun.
Now, he is working his way to leave
Baldwin Middle Senior High school for
basic training in mid-July. After the
tedious process, Hilson still displays a
positive attitude and is very excited to
get started working his dream job.
“I’m excited about leaving for basic
training, this should be a fun experience,” said Jerwaun.
Great work Jerwaun!
Blast To The Past
By Celine Echevarria and
Janessa Anthony
By Jessica Malenfant
Earning volunteer hours is essential for getting certain scholarships and
is overall
a good thing to do for your community. But most of the time students
have no clue where to look for volunteer hours.
Volunteer opportunities are everywhere and knowing where to look for
them is vital.
The internet is a good source as
there are many sites that show local
opportunities for volunteer hours.
Sometimes if you ask some of your
teachers, there are things that you can
do for them. You can also volunteer
at places you typically go to, perhaps
libraries, hospitals, churches, even your
pet’s veterinarian office. Offer to help
and you may be surprised at who takes
you up on that offer.
Assess what your skills are and
determine if there are ways to use
them to benefit others. For example, if
you are good with computers you can
volunteer to
teach the elderly how to use computers. Or if you enjoy reading, tutoring
others with reading would be something you could do.
Whether it is for future scholarship
opportunities or just to help others, volunteering
does help the community as well
as provides students with valuable life
lessons.
Many of the teachers who work
at Baldwin actually attended school
here as a student. Those teachers are
Mr. Kennedy, Coach Smith, Mrs. Kelly
(math), Mr. Beninati, Mr. Takach, Mr.
Tuccillo, Mrs. Justice, Mrs. Hodges,
Mrs. McDonald, and Coach Graham.
A lot of them agreed that Baldwin
has come a long way since they’ve been
here. The biggest changes mainly deal
with the structure and number of students.
Teachers also
mentioned the
change in students’ attitudes
and behavior.
According
to
Coach
Graham, there
were only 600
students
in
1989
when
he was a student.
Now
there are 1150
students currently attending
Baldwin.
Baldwin Middle Senior High School
was built and founded in 1949. The
landscape and buildings have evolved
over time.
“The middle school wings, white
buildings, and portables did not exist,
nor did the field house, pool, and
track when I was a student,” said Mrs.
McDonald, who attended Baldwin from
1971-1976.
“I used to like the old gym, which is
where the cafeteria and band and chorus rooms are now,” said Coach Smith.
According to Mrs. Hodges, there
were more electives when she attended, including Home Economics, Wood
Shop, FFA, and Auto Shop.
Many teachers agreed that students back then were more respectful
than they are now due to the harsh consequences if a student misbehaved.
According to
Mr. Beninati,
students were
given
swats
if they misbehaved.
More than
90% of these
teaches say
they miss the
old Baldwin.
They miss the
people,
the
smaller school,
the small town
feel, dances
after
every
Friday
night
home football
game, and the
teachers and coaches.
According to Mr. Takach, the biggest change he’s seen is the level of
obsession of students and their cell
phones.
Though Baldwin has been standing
for 66 years, it still has its morals and
values. Indian pride for life.

AfroPunk Fest Will
Open Your Eyes To A
New World
By Jasmine Louis-Jacques
AfroPunk Fest is a music festival
held annually in Brooklyn, New York
since 2005. In this last year, it was held
in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park
as well as Atlanta and will be additionally held in Paris in
2016. But the message behind this festival comes from a
man named James
Spooner.
James Spooner
is 36 year old now.
He is a vegan tattoo artist who made
a
movie
called
AfroPunk. His inspiration to make this
movie was that
when he was a kid
(14 years old) he
remembered
that
black subcultures were never talked
about. When he looked up “Black Punk”
nothing came up except a story about
prison rape. He was unnerved that
there wasn’t anything out there or talked about anything alternative relating to
the black community.
When his AfroPunk came out, he
didn’t expect to get much popularity but
the first three screenings completely
sold out. Many people had been able
to relate to the story of AfroPunk with
what has happened in their personal
life. It was really a
movement for many
people of color.
The movie came
out around the time
where there was no
YouTube, so he had
it screened at Film
Festivals. Over the
course of a year he
has done about 100
screenings, had 16
front page articles
in several newspapers, traveled with
bands, and started
a website which is still up and running
now.
There is a lot that led up to where
AfroPunk stands now. But overall it is
an amazing thing to experience that
really opens your eyes to a new world.

Album Has Many Hits
By James Murkerson
Three Days Grace is a band that
formed in Norwood, Ontario Canada.
It formed in 1997 with three members.
The members were lead singer Adam
Gontier, bassist Brad Walst, and drummer Neil Sanderson. They worked and
recorded for six years before releasing
their first album.
Six years after they formed, they
released their self-titled album Three
Days Grace. It was a huge success,
especially with their single I Hate
Everything about You.
Then three years later they released
their bestselling album ever, One-X. It
has so many hit songs. Its most popular
songs are Animal I have Become, Pain,
Never Too Late, Riot, Get out Alive,
and Time of Dying.
Then in 2009, their third album was
released. The album is known as Life
Starts Now. It is a good album that is
not as good as the first two but holds
its own. Some of the hit songs on that
album are Break and The Good Life.
Life Starts Now also had hits from the
first two albums as well.
In 2012, their fourth album Transit
of Venus came out. While it is good, to
most fans they took a step backward.
It only had one single and that was the
song Chalk Outline.
One year after Transit of Venus
came out, the lead singer Adam
Gontier left the band and the bassist’s
brother Matt Walst joined. When Matt
joined they spent the years of 20132015 recording their fifth studio album,
Human.
Human is a great album that ranks
up with the best of Three Days Grace.
All the tracks are amazing and it reminds
most people of their best album, OneX. Some of the hits are Human Race,
Landmine, Painkiller, Fallen Angel, and
I Am Machine. Despite the awesomeness that is this album, fans complain
about Adam not being the singer. They
aren’t giving Matt Walst a chance, but
this is just his first album and he will
get better the more he records with the
band. In later years if fans still don’t like
Matt, they can listen to Adam Gontier’s
new band Saint Asonia.

Band to the Future
By Justin Cain
Recently, the Baldwin Marching
Indians performed their Back to the
Future show at Fletcher for a performance grade in front of five judges.
The band performed along with a ton
of other bands and received and overall Excellent, the second highest score.
They also received an Excellent in
music, percussion, auxiliary, and general effect. They received a Superior
in marching and maneuvering.
“I am proud of the MPA scores
because they show great improvement and excellent hard work,” said
Ashley King, a senior and the Color
Guard section leader.
“I am very pleased with what we
were able to achieve this season. It
was not easy but we were able to stay
focused and execute and that was
reflected in our scores,” said Jason
Louis-Jacques, a senior and the Drum
Major.
Since July, all of the students
have worked very hard to make the
show the best they possibly could.
They spent nearly every Tuesday and
Thursday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. working on their show, as well as a full
week of Band Camp led by the instructors.
“These students worked very hard
and I am so proud of them,” said
Gwen Letourneau, a senior and the
Band Captain.
All of the Band members have put
a lot of work into this show and are
very proud of their work and scores.

1989 is Taylor Swift’s first ever

October 27, 2014 and won the Billboard
Music Award for Top Billboard 200
album.
Her 1989 tour kicked off in Japan
on May 5, 2015. This world tour has a
total number of 85 shows.
Taylor Swift is known for her amazing concerts, but during this tour she
upped the wow factor. This tour she
has had a special guest perform one of
their songs with her at every show. The
guests have ranged from Steven Tyler
to The Weeknd.
“I went to the Tampa show and
Taylor sang “Let It Go” with Idina
Menzel while wearing a Olaf costume.
It was amazing,” said Maggie Murphy.
Taylor Swift also performed “I
Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are
Never Getting Back Together” as rock
remixes.
“I thought the remixes were a good
twist on her original songs,” said Natalie
Stokes.

Everyone listens to some kind of
music, whether it’s country, rap, or
even classical music. Many people
believe that music can help calm them
down and put them in a better state of
mind.
Now this does seem reasonable
since your favorite song usually makes
you happy and probably gets your mind
off of a lot.
Music has a unique link with your
emotions. If you listen to music it can
have a relaxing effect on the mind and
body.
Research and studies show that
the best type of music to listen to when
trying to relieve stress is slow, classical
music. It slows the person’s pulse and
heart rate. Classical music can also
lower blood pressure and decrease the
level of stress hormones.
The worst music to listen to when
trying to calm down and relieve stress
is hard rock and most types of rap.
Even though this music might make
you happy, it could raise your heart rate
which wouldn’t help calm you down.
Not all people are the same though.
Some people could be calmed by different types of music than others.

QC the Label’s Johnny Cinco
By Brenton Gayles and Jared Hendershot
QC the Label has an artist named
Johnny Cinco. He’s released four projects and featured himself on multiple
others. This Atlanta based rapper is one
to look out for. He works with a type of
music known as trap rap, just as most of
the other people in QC the Label work
with.
As an artist from Atlanta, Cinco was
like many others “from the bottom” but
he came up to shine with his rapping
Indian Trails Editors & Staff
and singing skills. Within his tracks, he
delivers his music between rapping and
his adlibs, which are short and quick
screeches.
Cinco’s most recent project “I
Swear” features rappers such as Migos
and Lucci. The main producer was Spiffy
Global. There were others on the project
such as Deko, KE on The Track, OG
Parker, and many more.
This rapper isn’t one to sleep on. If
he continues to do what he’s doing, it’s
possible that he will soon be at the top.

How To Save The Earth
By Michaela Shafer
Through 4.55 billion years, our
earth is the only thing that has lasted.
Its rich resources have formed life as
lived today, therefore everyone should
share their part in taking care of the
earth. It could be easier than most
think.
The little things are what matter the
most. Turning off the water while brushing your teeth or even fixing a leaky
sink could save hundreds of gallons of
water; or even washing your clothes in
cold water can help.
Turning down the air by one degree
when it’s hot and turning it up one
degree when it’s cold could also tremendously save energy and save your
family money. Try turning off your
lights when not in the room, unplugging
cords out of the outlets when not using
the appliance, and even replacing your
air filters can save both money and
energy.
When coming to cars, they emit
huge amounts of pollution and every
car not on the roads count. While
out running errands, try hitting multiple
places at one so it saves you time and
helps save the planet.
“If you can stay off the road just
two days a week, you’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of
1,590 pounds per year [source: EPA],”
according to HowStuffWorks.com.
There are so many ways to live a
clean and ecofriendly life. Leave this
as a reminder and start your new green
life.

Solar Panels Help The Earth
By Jaelyn Brady and Jason Hendricks
By Cayely Winburn
Some households have converted
their power source to solar energy, to
cut their electricity bill down.
By converting as many home appliances as possible to use solar energy,
you can save a significant savings on
your utilities expenses.
Typical electricity is generated
from fossil fuel that will run out one
day. Solar energy is a good alternative to replace fossil fuel as the major
energy source because solar power
is renewable at absolutely no cost to
supply energy infinitely.
The world pollution is getting
worse. Any effort that can reduce the
pollution to the environment helps to
save the earth. Solar panels are able
to harness the energy from the sun
and convert it to electricity.
Therefore, the use of solar panels
is environment friendly.
Solar energy that is harmless to
the environment will be the major
energy source for the future – starting
today.
No Bees, No Food
By Shelby Underwood and
Lindsey Register
Bee keepers over the recent years
report that they are losing on average
30% of their honey bee colonies each
winter. 30% is twice the loss amount
considered economically tolerable.
The world relies on honeybees to
pollinate, from the hay used to feed
dairy cows, to almonds, to strawberries,
and everything in between.
“We’re up against big agrichemical
companies,” said RSS, in an article on
bee pollination and extinction and food
decrease.
The trees used for bees to pollinate are treated with chemicals called
neonicotinoids (or known as neonics.)
These toxins work their way into the
pollen which is bad for the bees to consume. Neonics are about 6,000 times
more toxic to bees than DDT.
“The honey company I work for has
lost profits and quantity in our hives.
Bees have been dropping dead left and
right,” said Denis Register.
Eco Friendly Baldwin
By Cameron Powers
Have you ever wondered where
your trash goes? Or maybe what you
could create with it?
Recycling is on the rise and here
to stay. Recycling is when you collect
trash and turn it into something useful,
like biofuel or turning aluminum cans
into things like toy cars or batteries.
Baldwin would benefit from having recycling stations set up around the school
so that students and staff alike can
lessen our impact on the environment.
We should become more ecofriendly as a school so that our world
will become a cleaner place.
On top of helping the environment,
recycling can give you things like Capri
Sun bags.
“I think it’s cool that some companies use only recycled material to make
their products,” said Jerry Smith.
Picking up trash around the school
can also keep Baldwin clean. By picking
up garbage and unnatural, manmade
objects like pencils or erasers helps
in order to keep Baldwin beautiful and
looking attractive.
“Recycling at Baldwin would teach
students to take care of the environment,” said Ben Summy.
Going Greener in our modern times
doesn’t have to become some exasperating task. There are simple and minor
steps we can put into action that would
make all the difference in the long run.
If we stay on this track, we will not have
a planet to call home.
“Thank God man cannot fly, and lay
waste to the sky as well as the Earth,”
said Henry D. Thoreau.
We’ve all heard about the big ‘R’ in
recycle, but how about Reduce? Even
the most remote reduction of our geological footprint would aid humans and
the planet as a whole. One way to save
energy is to change the lights in our
homes from conventional lights to compact ‘florescent bulbs’. This will reduce
pollution and save energy.
“Don’t blow it. Good planets are hard
to find,” was quoted in Time Magazine.
Another way to save energy would
be to turn off energy guzzlers such as
computers and laptops at night. This
saves up to 40 watts of power a day.
This will also save money, up to $14 a
year, which adds up.
“We never know the worth of water
till well is dry,” said Thomas Fuller.
A final simple energy/money saver
is not rinsing dishes before using the
dishwasher. This saves up to 20 gallons
of water a year, not to mention the time
and energy it would save.
Go Green For Future
Generations
By Jared Hendershot and
Brenton Gayles
Year after year, people walk and
drive by trash without taking two seconds to pick it up or help to benefit the
earth at all. Going green would help
the environment stay clean, not only
our environment also other places.
Another reason why going green is
beneficial is because it saves the earth.
There’s many ways to go green,
including making your own cleaning
products. This is going green because
the products don’t have all the toxins
in them like they do when purchased
from a retailer.
Another way to go green is keeping
electronics out of the trash when they
go bad. This is going green because
electronics have mercury and toxins in
them that harm the environment when
thrown away.
“It’s important to go green because
you want the future generations to
grow up in an environment that is
friendly and not have them grow up in
an environment where there are toxins
in the air and trash all on the ground,”
said Malia Holmes.
“I think we should go green
because we are going to be living on
the earth for a while and I don’t want
to live my life surrounded by trash and
toxins when I get older. Also I don’t
want my future family generations hating my generation because we couldn’t
take time to help the earth,” said Olivia
Rhoden.
These are perfect examples of how
people of this generation feel. If the
earth doesn’t have people taking care
of it then the people of the future won’t
be too fond of it, either. So going green
could become a part of everyone’s life
in order to slowly rebuild the earth.
Keep Your Garden Healthy
Help Save Our Environment With A Compost Pile
By Lindsey Smith and
Cameron Andrews
All over the world there are people
leaving trash such as food rappers,
cans, plastic bags, cigarettes, beer
bottles and fast foods bags on the
ground.
The trash that people leave lying
around makes that town and community look unclean and trashy.
When people leave garbage on
the beach, it sometimes ends up in the
water which is harmful to animals.
“Students can help by throwing
away trash and not throwing it on the
beach or in the ocean,” said Cheyenne
Baker.
There are many things that students can do to help save our environment and make it cleaner and safer.
”Students can recycle more, turn
off the lights and take out the trash.
We can also make sure to throw away
our trash instead of leaving it on the
ground,” said Claire Perry.
If students clean up after themselves and throw away trash it will
make our environment cleaner.
“Students can throw away trash
and recycle objects like cans and plastic cups to help clean up,” said Alison
Varnes.
If we all recycle and throw away
our trash and use less plastic bags, we
can all save our environment.
By Sabrina Walker and Ashley Crews
Many people around the world
have gardens, and one of the best
ways to improve your garden would be
to start a compost pile.
A compost pile is a mixture of various decaying organic substances used
for fertilizing the soil. The difference
between store bought fertilizer and
compost is fertilizer feeds the plants
and compost feeds the soil.
There are many benefits of having
a compost pile. It improves the structure and texture of the soil, enabling it
to better retain nutrients, moisture and
air which in turn betters the plants. It
also gets rid of 30% of household waste
by using it in a more efficient way.
To start a compost pile, you first
need a container to hold your “ingredients” together, but make sure it is well
ventilated.
Next you need a bunch of organic
materials such as shredded newspaper, yard clippings, wood chips, and
kitchen waste.
Next, mix dirt and your organic
materials together in the container. Set
the container in the sun. Your compost
is ready to use when it turns a dark
brown color and most of the contents
look like dirt.
The best way to keep your garden
healthy is to keep up and maintain a
compost pile.
