Why do a Hospital Dental
Residency?
Once in a lifetime experience
 To truly develop your skills after your
undergrad program
 Teach you how to think on your feet and
to mature
 Make you a better generalist or
specialist
 To be the best that you can be!!!

Mount Sinai Hospital
Interviews will take place October
group interview
 Applicants must rank their
preferences by November 11, 2010
 Selections for all University of
Toronto affiliated positions with
offers to be made soon after that
date

How to evaluate a program?
How busy is the program – the busier
the more opportunities to learn – the
better!!
 Who will be teaching you?
 What will you actually be doing?
 Are staff available or are they just listed
on the directory?
 What are the past residents doing today
– general practice, hospital privileges,
specialty practice

Specialty program vs HDR
If you want to be the best specialist
possible then the a one year residency
is a must.
 Most specialty programs prefer to
accept individuals who have completed
a general residency, for some programs
it is a requirement.
