CON T E ST R EM I N D ER
Please email your “Daylily” photo (one per person)
to yr@powergate.ca by October first (no late
entries will be accepted). Please send your photo
in portrait format (see previous yearbook covers).
Also remember that if your photo is not chosen for
the cover it may appear on the bookmark or even
somewhere inside the yearbook. All members of
the executive committee, except those submitting a
photo, will be voting for the cover winner.
Good luck everyone.

Ok, I now have three small zucchinis from my
garden, tons of green tomatoes, and one winter
squash. Anyone want to come for dinner at my
place?
This month, we hear about invasive plants. And all
of us need the magic spell to get them all once
and for all.
You all know that in October Rose and I dress up
for Halloween. I will be doing wedding stuff so
please don't let her be the only witch in the room.
Wear your finest costumes and hear all about the
sexual history of plants.
I hope that you are all planning to
bring yummy dishes for Pam to the
December pot luck dinner. Just
giving you tons of time to think
about it.
Did You Know!!!
That we receive $1.00 for every
$450.00 in Zehrs tapes collected?
So please bring your Zehrs tapes
To the meeting instead of
recycling them.
See you soon and maybe we will
be wearing our snow suits.
Quote of the month
"The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed
straw hat and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one
hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else
where to dig."
Texas Bix Bender
U p c o m i n g E ve n t s :

AUGUST SHOW RESULTS
This month we had a tie for first place: Sharon Bognar and Bob Clarridge (165 points), while second place went to Joyce Brown (145),
and third to Angie Andruss (57). They were followed by Ena Wassenaar (44), me (28), and Debbie Watson (19). What a wonderful
display from just a handful of people!
It would be nice if we had a little more competition: try bringing just a few items, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the results.
Best gladiolus and best vegetable went to Sharon Bognar, best daylily to Angie Andruss, and best decorative to Joyce Brown.
The show committee regulars, Sharon Bognar, Colleen Dunlop and myself went around with the judge to tally the points.

Another great speaker, Jeff Mason of Mason House Gardens,
introduced by Bob Clarridge.
Thanks to Pam Kuiper, we are very fortunate to have great speakers
at our meetings who add to our gardening knowledge.
