DIAMOND JEANS A WORK OF ART
Kimberley Fine Diamonds has created history this year by becoming the first to create
diamond jeans for the exclusive Jeans for Genes Day Celebrity Art Auction.
Glamorous Miss World Australia Sabrina Houssami donated her jeans to the cause
which were flown from Sydney to the remote town of Kununurra in the Kimberley
region of Western Australia and painted by renowned indigenous artist JuJu Wilson,
before being furnished with some of the region’s most exquisite diamonds.
The Kimberley Fine Diamonds team handcrafted more than 70 elaborate white gold
settings which were then studded with brilliant white diamonds and individually hand
sewn into place around the intricate indigenous art.
Together Kimberley Fine Diamonds and JuJu Wilson have created a truly magnificent
and unique piece of Kimberley art.
Combined with JuJu Wilson’s Turtle Dreaming the artwork tells the story of the two
extremes of the Kimberley region – the rugged dry season and the spectacular wet
season. The saltwater turtles from Cape Dommit, are searching the parched land for
water. The sparkling diamonds represent the coming rains set to replenish the
waterholes, renew the countryside, renew life.
While the jeans are indeed a very special artwork – they also can be worn – and will
go under the hammer at the glamorous Jeans for Genes Day Celebrity Art Auction on
July 12, 2007 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney.
Sabrina Houssami’s jeans will join an exclusive line-up of celebrity denim including Sir
Richard Branson, David Copperfield, Brigitte Bardot, Diane Keaton, Eva Longoria,
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Caton, Dame Edna, Ashley Judd, Roy and HG, Eric
Bana and Kurt Russell.
Jeans for Genes Day will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 across Australia.
The day is the major fundraiser for the Children’s Medical Research Institute where
scientists are working to identify and prevent genetic diseases and other disorders in
children including leukaemia, muscular
dystrophy, cystic fibrosis. Visit
