February 2015 - Salisbury Primary School
I was very proud to be present when 12 of our children graduated from the ‘Brilliant Club’ at Oxford University. Each child was required to write a thousand word essay on ‘The 1834 poor law’. These were marked in the same way as if they had been attending a University. I would like to congratulate all the pupils as they all worked extremely hard to produce good quality essays. Well done to our ‘Brilliant Club Children’ Sageev Rajaseelan - Awarded a 1st with distinctions , Mohammed Jumel Uddin - Awarded distinction, Hannah Rahman, Habibah Malik, Hamza Al Kadir, Yasin Sheikh M, Arshika Ahmed, Ewa Dabrowska, Adil Yunus, Auritro Saha, Tanya Rahman & Tasnin Matin Parent English Classes Parents and their children worked together using the knowledge that they have acquired in ‘Parent English Classes’ to make story boxes and cards. Well done to you all! Thank you to all parents, children and staff that took part. Page 1 Year 5 Visit to Tate and Lyle Friday 30th January 2015 We enjoyed a great visit to Tate and Lyle. Remain informed when on the move…….. Have you downloaded the app ‘Parentlink’ yet? You would have already received a letter encouraging those of you who have a smart phone or an android phone to do so. The children learnt about being good citizens, knife crime awareness, fire safety and stranger danger. This app sends you notifications about our school updates. Such as holiday dates, emergency notices as well as reminders for school events just to name a few. Please come into the school office if you are unsure of what to do. Please also remember to look at our school website. This is updated daily and has lots of information for you. There are also pictures of your children's learning and enjoying their school life. All feedback and ideas are most welcome. Getting information out to our Parents Soannes Centre Children from Year 3 enjoyed a visit to Soannes Centre to learn about seed dispersal. This was to support their learning in ‘Let's plant it’ - their IPC / Science unit’. Here at Salisbury we are utilising a number of ways to get information over to our parents. We use the school website, MLE, text messages, letters, newsletters as well as parentlink. All the above ways of communicating are continually used. There is no reason for parents to not be fully informed of all school activities, events, meetings and on going general information. There are also posters dotted around the school and many useful leaflets in the main reception office. If you wish to know more about our ways of communication with you, then please pop into the school office for help. Parents Coffee Morning Our next coffee morning will be on Monday 23rd March at 9am. Please come along to meet other parents whilst enjoying refreshments that are laid out for you. During coffee mornings, parents discuss their views of our school, praising aspects they like and also putting forward suggestions for improvements they would like to see. We look forward to seeing you there. Please remember to inform the school office if you change address or telephone number to ensure you continue to receive text messages and important information. Mrs Harding looks forward to seeing you there. Good Behaviour—Well done to GF5 & MF6 We have had a very positive start at Salisbury since September 2014. Our new behaviour display shows clearly that children want to show how well they and their class members are doing by staying out of RED. I am pleased to announce that both classes GF5 and MF6 have had no class members enter RED this half term! All children will receive a certificate and good behaviour pencil at our end of term assembly and both classes will also receive a class treat next half term to reward their excellent behaviour. Attendance Here at Salisbury as you are all aware, we are very passionate about our children being in school every day. Attendance of our pupils is constantly improving and this is evident in the way that children are achieving academically. We always reward our highest attending children as well as rewarding the highest attending class. Have a look below to see where your class is. 100 98 Everyone can make a difference in helping their class win the termly prize for the highest attending class. 96 Page 3 94 92 90 88 AM PM GF3 GF4 GF5 MF2 MF3 MF1 MF5 MF6 MF4 GF7 GF1 GF2 TF6 TF7 TF2 TF3 TF4 TF5 86 World Book Day Your child will be celebrating World book day on 5th March 2015 by acting and reading aloud throughout the week in their guided reading time. We are also inviting the children to come into school on this day dressed as their favourite book character. BIKEABILITY CYCLE TRAINING We have been given the excellent opportunity to provide free ‘Bikeability’ Level 1 and 2 cycle training to our children in years 3, 4 & 5. The training will be provided by Cycle Confident Ltd who work with the Road Safety department at the council. Please make sure you return your consent forms back to the school office a.s.a.p. Spaces are limited ! On Wednesday 28th January, 35 of our Year 5 pupils joined thousands of children from schools across the country at London's O2 Arena for the Young Voices concert. This is the largest school choir series in the world and we had a fantastic time singing songs by Pharell, Montey Python, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Clean bandit. We were joined by a live band, a teacher’s choir, a break dance troop and even Lucy Spraggen from X Factor! Our children behaved beautifully the whole day and represented our school to an incredibly high standard. We can't wait for next year's concert - especially since Mrs. Georgestone has agreed to be a part of the Young Voices teacher’s choir.
