This year was a little bit different in that Pastor had just gotten home from having knee surgery, so he was unable to make the event. However, Pastor Matt and Kendal came with their kids and were able to record a very personal rendition of Happy Birthday sung by those in attendance. Pastor Matt and his youngest son, Joel, blew out the candles and everyone celebrated another season of God’s great blessing on Pastor’s life. When Pastor Hagee viewed the tape of the members and congregants singing and wishing him a happy birthday, he was incredibly touched. “Thank you all so very much for the heartfelt birthday wishes. I’m truly grateful for your kindness and know that the best is yet to come.” We love you Pastor, and wish you many more years filled with God’s grace, love and favor! 4 CORNE RSTONE MAGAZI N E | MAY 2 0 1 4 Did you know that God created you to worship Him and fellowship with Him? Often times during our Sunday worship service, the Presence of God is so strong you can literally feel it saturating the room. When this happens, there’s a desire within you to be with Him. It’s like you just know this is where you’re meant to be. There is a longing in your soul for God. As David wrote in Psalms 63:1, “O God, You are my God, early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you.” You think to yourself, “Why do I have to wait for Sunday mornings to experience God’s Presence?” You don’t! God gave Moses the plans for the tabernacle in the wilderness; this allowed the Israelites to come into the Presence of God. In those days, the high priest went into the Presence of God on behalf of the people. Revelation 1.5 says, “He has made us kings and priests to His God and Father.” Because of the blood of Jesus, we can become born again; we are considered priests unto God. Hebrews 10:19,22 says, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Most Holy Place, by the blood of Jesus....let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.” God gave the Israelite priests a way into His Presence. The same way they entered is a pattern for us as Believers. In the wilderness, the Israelites could enter the outer courts. Only the priests were allowed in the Holy Place; once a year the high priest entered the Holy of Holies on behalf of the people. Psalms 100:4 says, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.” We are to come into the outer courts thanking Him for what He’s done for us, then begin praising Him for who He is. The priest came with the blood of the lamb sacrificed for the sins of the people on the brazen altar. We come by the blood of the spotless lamb, Jesus, who cleanses us from all sin. As we enter the Holy Place, we submit ourselves to Him. We are spirit beings. We have a soul and live in a body. In the Holy Place, we submit our soul, our will, our mind and our emotions to God. God is Spirit and we contact God with our re-born spirit. As we submit our soul to Him, our spirit (which is born of God) is free to worship. As we express with our mouths the longings, the love and adoration of our spirits toward God, we enter into the Holy of Holies. You are now in the Presence of Almighty God. Linger a while. Soak in His presence. Be refreshed and renewed. There is joy, peace and healing here. There is revelation and answers to your problems, provision for every need. You don’t have to wait for Sunday service to experience His Presence. T Pastor John Hagee Sunday, October 26 at 8:30am & 11:00am CST he Celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles has become an annual tradition at Cornerstone Church. As Christians, it is important that we understand our Jewish roots, the feasts and how they apply to the Believer. The Feast of Tabernacles, or “Sukkot,” is known as the Feast of the Booths or temporary dwellings. This is when the Jewish males were required to go to Jerusalem as described in Leviticus 23:33-43, Numbers 29:12-39 and Deuteronomy 16:13-16. Dennis Prager Night To Honor Israel Sunday, October 26 at 6:30pm CST “Sukkot” commences the fifteenth day of “Tishri,” five days after Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. It lasts seven days, with an eighth day, “Sh’mini Atzeret,” spent as a day of rest. This feast occurs during late September or October. Families build booths of palm branches that are partially open to the sky, to symbolize God’s blessings toward Israel during the 40 years of wandering in the desert while living in tents. The festival also celebrates the harvest that previously took place at summer’s end, making this feast a time of thanksgiving. The Puritans modeled the American holiday of Thanksgiving after Sukkot. It is always important to remember that the Feast of Tabernacles’ major theme is joy and thanksgiving. So join us for this family-friendly event – the Feast of Tabernacles. We will be celebrating the joy, goodness and blessings of God while enriching your understanding of what the Feast truly signifies for Jews and Christians alike. The tribe of Simeon has been increasing its territory each year by the grace of God; and we are growing daily as we continue to serve Him. Linda and I have been working alongside our leaders to serve the Lord in and out of season. We honor His calling on our lives. Our tribe has been blessed with some of the most wonderful, loving, kind and humble servants. They are responsible and accountable in all that they do for the Kingdom, and we are so proud to be serving with them. We have Small Group Bible Studies all over the city and our group leaders organize outreaches in their individual communities. Through these efforts we are able to canvas neighborhoods for prayer requests and to help meet individual needs. We also have community gatherings, cook-outs, dates for praise and worship and movies nights… sometimes under the stars. Each year brings new and exciting blessings from the Lord and we are so grateful for each and every one of them. We encourage you to come and be a part of our Simeon Family. We have a Bible Study close to you and look forward to seeing you and your family very soon! The road of dying to self is the secret road to a fruitful life. John 12:24 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” We need to understand this process not only for our own lives, but also for our children. This is the path God followed with His Son, and the ministry topic for our next Women’s Breakfast at Iglesia Cornerstone. The enemy tries to tell us our trials and misfortunes are for our own destruction, when in reality it is this very path that gives us the opportunity to be fruitful. Sometimes our sufferings are in the frying pan for all to see, while other times we are enclosed in a pressure cooker, secretly suffering. It is easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged, but God wants to impart His wisdom and strength to us so that we can remain strong and fearless. Philippians 1:27-29 tells us, “… Only let your manner of life be worthy of the Gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents.” 1 Corinthians 2:7 says, “But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.” None of the rulers of this age understood this. If they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. The fruitfulness that would come as a result of the road of suffering our Savior walked, shows the pathway that we might also travel. The Word tells us to not think it is strange when we encounter trials and to rejoice in seasons of suffering. Trials are the fire needed to drain out the impurities and transform us into purest gold, preparing us to receive our heavenly inheritance. God knew the strength of a woman needs to be such that she can endure the suffering of labor pains needed to bring forth new life. God strengthened me to be able to endure labor pains and then I experienced amazing joy with the birth of each daughter. I believe He wants to strengthen us in this time we are living as women, to have what we need to birth life for our families and the Kingdom of God. Come join us as we build our faith and strength as women through the message of “The Secret Road to Fruitfulness.” M AY 2014 | C O R NE R S T O N E M A G A Z I NE 9 SPARK IgnitingtheFireof God! This is a principle upon which our faith is based; yet why is it so hard to live out? By Nelson Solares • You forgive because if you don’t, you will become paralyzed and stagnant, unfruitful in all that you do. If you don’t forgive, you will be held hostage by those you haven’t forgiven, having to deal with your own resentment, bitterness and strife. You can stay frozen in the moment where the offense occurred; continually reliving the moment (filled with toxic emotions) until you allow the Holy Spirit to help you forgive. • You want to be in good standing before the Lord, not quenching the Holy Spirit in your life. • When you don’t forgive, you affect those around you. I have seen a good number of relationships ruined due to a lack of forgiveness. Some of you might think that by removing yourselves from a situation you can eliminate the problem. You may seem to be entering into a new season of life, however, if you have not dealt with your past issues, the same kind of situation can recur. The way you leave one season determines how you will enter the next. You need to be willing to give the offense to the Lord and allow Him to heal your broken places. • Forgiveness causes closed doors to be opened. It opens your heart to love the way Jesus loves. It allows the healing process to begin and gives you the strength to continue your own walk of faith. • You need to move forward in God’s purpose for your life. You forgive because it sets you free! Walking in complete freedom is God’s plan for your life. Jesus died on the cross so that you don’t have to carry the weight of guilt and shame. He died so that you can experience His freedom, His love and His Power. Today I urge you, (as someone who has been paralyzed by unforgiveness in the past and has discovered the power of forgiveness)…start walking in forgiveness. It will open doors you never imagined and bring healing to the broken areas of your life. • No one is perfect. At some point we will all need to be forgiven for offending/hurting someone with our words or actions. M AY 2014 | C O R NE R S T O N E M A G A Z I N E 11 RECAP The night of Easter Sunday, Cornerstone Church celebrated with an incredible choir concert followed by an original play, The Ticket. The concert was nothing short of a fantastic display of love to the King. The crowd was on their feet from the first word of “Amen” sung by Vern LaManna. Amanda Crabb sang about that Easter morning in a gorgeous rendition of “On That Day.” And Shane McConnell sang “Oh the Blood.” Canton Junction joined in the praise with “Who Am I?” a much-beloved song of the church written by Gospel Music Hall of Fame legend, Rusty Goodman. The haunting lyrics remind us of Jesus’ never-ending love for us: Who am I that the King would bleed and die for? Who am I that He would pray not my will, Thy Lord? The answer I may never know why He ever loved me so, But to that old rugged cross He’d go, for who am I? 12 CORNERSTONE MA G AZI N E | MAY 2 0 1 4 Not to be left out…our youngest members, Joyful Noise and Kidz Praise joined in to complete the concert portion of the evening before changing sets and moving on to the one-time-only presentation of The Ticket. The Ticket tells the familiar story of an elder loved one left behind by his family who buys a winning lottery ticket. Suddenly he is surrounded by family and friends who are more than willing to help him spend his new-found riches. In the end, everyone comes together, realizing that having Jesus as your Savior is the truly the greatest form of wealth anyone could ever obtain. Our Children’s Ministry believes Biblical discipleship is an ongoing process, and we strive to provide services, programs, and events that make that possible. ministering to the spiritual needs of children in 1st – 5th grade It is an absolute honor to serve the children of Cornerstone Church. When the children’s ministry is successful, the difference is not just measured in lives, but quite possibly in generations. We will see a generation who build their lives upon The Cornerstone Jesus Christ – one precious life at a time. More than ever before, Cornerstone Kids is passionately pursuing the vision and direction of Cornerstone Church, taking All The Gospel To All The World and To All Generations. More than ever before, Cornerstone Kids is aligning with other ministries of our church in order to make a more significant impact on kids as they grow from infancy toward adulthood. More than ever before, Cornerstone Kids is partnering with families to help parents find success in their efforts as the spiritual leaders and greatest influence in their child’s life. As Cornerstone Kids Pastor, my prayer for every Cornerstone kid is that they experience the Father’s love, discover their identity in Christ, and powerfully demonstrate God’s love towards others. We are blessed to offer these Sunday services and programs in the Life Center: • Children’s worship service at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. • Small group classes at 10:00 a.m. • Children’s Choir available at 6:00 p.m. • Bible activity program at 6:30 p.m. • One2One Special Needs program during all services. The red carpet was rolled out for the beautiful young ladies of Cornerstone Church to be escorted by their fathers (or father figures) in their Sunday best. The ladies were gorgeous and the scene was set for a night of glamour, glitz and glory. Because, of course, in all that we do here at Cornerstone, we honor the King first and foremost. As the honored guests arrived on the red carpet, the paparazzi took their pictures before they were escorted to their seats in the sumptuous dining room that was decked out to the nines, dripping with everything you might see at the finest Oscar party in Hollywood. The girls enjoyed a delicious home-cooked, multi-course meal, courtesy of our Special Events Staff. The ambiance was perfect for singing sensations Aaron Crabb and Sandy Parker. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the lyrics rang out, describing the special bond between a father and daughter. For most certainly, children are God’s greatest treasure that He shares with us but for a few brief moments. Once the dinner plates were cleared, it was time to hit the dance floor and raise the roof! It was an evening of sheer enjoyment for all in attendance. Nights like these are what precious memories are made of! And what better place to make life-long friends than at church! 22 CORNERSTONE MA G AZI N E | MAY 2 0 1 4 RECAP Knights of Cornerstone and their fair ladies look forward to this annual mother/son event. This year “A Night with My Knight” was held on two consecutive evenings due to the great popularity in the Cornerstone Kingdom! More than 700 young knights and their mothers feasted while enjoying the royal cast. Entertainment included a juggler, illusionist Taylor Griswold, Celestial Silks Acrobats Kellie Ramos and Laura DiPasquale and ventriloquist Mark Thompson. Many mothers left comments regarding how much they enjoyed this spectacular event on our Cornerstone Facebook Page. “We had such a wonderful time at this event! There was such an anointing and amidst all the laughter and spectacular sights, I could really feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. I loved how Jesus and God were woven through the whole evening. Pastor Brett did an amazing job playing the king. Kendal Hagee and the staff did a fantastic job putting on this wonderful event. I can’t wait to go again next year!” If you didn’t join us this year, make plans with your elementary-aged knight for next year’s performance. We know it will be a Kingdom pleaser! M AY 2014 | C O R NE R S T O N E M A G A Z I N E 23 When Vanity Got In the Way of My Theology by Dr. Jerry Eshleman - Superintendent of Cornerstone Christian Schools I t was a very hot, late August Sunday evening. My mother and I were heading to church. In addition to service for the adults, this was the time when we had our youth service. This however, wasn’t just any Sunday night. I was 15 and had my learner’s permit. It was the first time I was able to drive to church. Also, it was a week or so before school started, so I was wearing my new school clothes. I had dreamed all week of getting to drive that night. I could see myself showing up, driving a car and getting out in new clothes all while my friends gawked! (Yeah, I may have lost a bit of my focus on why I should really have been going to church.) Oh, and by the way, Miami Vice was THE show to watch. My clothes were something the wardrobe folks from the show would have been proud of. I was covered from head to toe in pastel blues and pinks. Ok…so you get the whole picture? So we were driving to church. My mind was fixated on getting out of our car and doing some kind of slow-motion walk into the church…looking totally rad, dude. On our way to church, we passed an elderly couple who had pulled over on the shoulder and realized they had a flat tire. I quickly saw them but acted like I didn’t. My mother did though. Out of the corner of my eye I could see her look at them, then at me, then at them and again, back to me. We passed the couple and stopped at a stop light about 50 feet past them. I didn’t dare look at my mother. I just stared straight ahead, but I could feel her staring at me. I just gripped the wheel and look ahead. Then it happened. My mother simply said…”Jerry.” “Yes mother.” “Jerry, did you see that back there?” (long pause here…) “Yes I did. “ “Where are we going tonight, Jerry?” “We’re going to church mom.” “Jerry, what do you think Jesus would do if He were on His way to church with His mother right now and saw the same thing?” (insert another long pause here…) “He’d probably stop and help them.” 24 CORNERSTONE MA G AZI N E | MAY 2 0 1 4 “That’s right Jerry. You know what to do.” So, the light turned green and I turned the car around. I pulled over to the elderly couple. My mother began to engage the wife with small talk. I ask the elderly husband where his tools were. We pulled the jack and tie iron from the trunk. Sweat was already pouring off me. Again, did I mention I looked like an extra from Miami Vice? As I worked on the front left tire, I was able to get all the lug nuts off. However, the last one gave me some trouble. I was sweaty but able to get the other lug nuts without putting my knees on the ground. However, this last one required me to really get a good angle on it. I had to put my pastel blue knee down on the oily, hot asphalt and…I got the last lug nut. We finished changing the tire. I was covered in sweat and had a black, oily right knee. Mom, however, refused to let me go home and change my clothes. We went to church just as I was. I walked in late. Nobody got to see me drive up. I walked in with my clothes all sweaty and droopy and yes, the black, oily right knee. God (and mom) taught me a lot that day. James 2:14 says, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?” Later in that same chapter, verse 18 states, “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” We need to be men and women whose theology radically affects our daily actions. Do we talk up Biblical principles in our homes? More importantly, do we LIVE out those principles in our homes? Cornerstone Christian Schools is dedicated to bridging the gap between theology as study and theology as a practice. So when you feel like watching re-runs of Miami Vice or playing that classic Phil Collins song, maybe we ought to remember…it’s not our talk, but our walk that honors God. “I liked going into the Capitol and looking at the monuments. It was way better than looking at it on TV or in a magazine.”– Cameron Davis Students Take On The U.S. Capitol! “It was mind blowing and an honor to be in the presence of all that history. An amazing trip I will never forget!” – Alejandro Maldonado “Seeing the many memorials reminds me that I should be thankful for my freedom, because freedom is not free.” – Boluwarin Sanyaolu Over spring break, the 8th grade class had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC as part of their history class. Over 100 travelers, (including 77 students), were able to experience first-hand much of the foundational history of the United States of America. The students experienced and learned more than any TV show, video or internet site could show them! “It was really emotional in the holocaust museum just seeing and reading what those people had been through and how they had to survive.” – Dannielle Mayes “My favorite part was seeing the war memorials and realizing just how much the soldiers gave up to protect our country.” – Morgan Melson “This trip was definitely the highlight of middle school.” – Jack Morrison “It is true history right before you.” – Mykah Gonzalez “Everything that I have seen in a text book and in pictures I got to see right there in front of me!” – Hannah Ayuso “I liked going to the Library of Congress and seeing on a plaque that God is and always will be the foundation of anything America does.” – Eliana Valdez M AY 2014 | C O R NE R S T O N E M A G A Z I N E 25 Legacy Banquet Saturday, September 27, 2014 Registration begins in July www.pastorscup.org 4:30-7:00 p.m. Cornerstone Church Bythel Hagee Life Center Pastor’s Cup Golf Tournament Monday, September 29, 2014 Shotgun Start at 8:00 a.m. JW Marriott TPC Golf Resort Oaks Course 26 CORNERSTONE MA G AZI N E | MAY 2 0 1 4 Please print waiver from sa-ccs.org and submit on first day of camp. Cornerstone Christian Schools Online offers summer courses for grades 3 through 12 and is an affordable option for getting ahead or for recovering credit. Summer courses are available at CCS Online School to start at any time. Part-Time • Full Course Tuition • Half-Credit Course If a student wants to get ahead on his/her high school transcript, CCS Online School is a great solution. In addition, when a student has failed a course at school, he/she can recover credit at CCS Online. When a student has not done well in traditional school, the student was perhaps not successful in absorbing all that needed to be gained from a particular course. CCS Online can help regain that missing knowledge and fill in those learning gaps simply by offering a different platform for learning. Research from iNACOL (International Association for K12 Online Learning) shows that taking the exact same course from the exact same teacher will most likely produce the exact same results. If a student re-takes the course in a different format, such as our online format, the chances of understanding increase. Plus, our courses can be taken from anywhere there is an Internet connection. Why not give CCS Online a try for summer school 2013? Go online today at www.ccsonlinecampus. org and click “Admissions” and then “Enroll Online Today.” You can also call our Online Advisor at 210-572-1033 with enrollment questions. Enroll soon for your summer needs! Tuition Fees There is a $100 registration fee for online summer school (part-time student registration) Tuition for a semester (.5) credit $200.00 Tuition for a full (1) credit $400.00 *While the time may be condensed to summer months, the amount of work required is not reduced in any way. As a result, we do not recommend a student take more than a semester of any one course during the summer. Contact Information Online Advisor: Brian Carrico Email: brian.carrico@sa-ccs.org Phone: 1-888-872-8554 or 210-572-1033 Or register online as a part-time student at www.ccsonlinecampus.org Start Date/End Date Outside of summer school schedules, an online student is given a maximum of 5 months to complete a halfcredit course and 10 months to complete a full-credit course. Dually-enrolled students should be aware of any deadlines given by his/her physical school. CCS, for example, requires summer school courses be taken between the first official day of summer and the first Friday in August. Taking Courses for Advancement We recommend that dually-enrolled students check with their physical school for confirmation that the school will accept the credit for a course taken for advancement with CCS Online School. Taking Courses for Recovery Any courses taken as “Summer School” for credit recovery can be taken at any time but again, duallyenrolled students are encouraged to know any deadlines enforced by their physical school. Rosetta Stone Language Courses Rosetta Stone language courses, while being online courses, are not taught by CCS Online teachers. The cost for Rosetta Stone courses is currently $50.00 per course.
