What a GALA -- Prizes, fun, and food for all! The Palacios Recreation
Center was the perfect venue for the First Annual Cape Gala. More than
225 people came to enjoy the delicious fajita dinner, bid on a wide array
of auction merchandise, and share the excitement of the raffle drawings.
Best of all, the Cape Carancahua Community Center Fund grew by almost
$13,000 after expenses. Please express your thanks to the dozens of
volunteers and donors who gave so unselfishly of their
time
and money to

72 volunteers spent untold hours planning and executing the grand scheme.
Almost $13,000.00 was added to the bank account dedicated to donations for the new community center.
Master Chef Dick Hoffman and 9 cooks presided over 1 huge barbecue pit to cook 140 pounds of beef and
140 pounds of chicken fajita meat.
14 food handlers served over 500 fajitas, veggies, tea, and dessert to 240 eager eaters.
11 group tables were reserved by sponsors.
68 individuals and businesses donated money and merchandise for the fundraiser.
Master of Ceremonies Scott Hollingsworth orchestrated the action to give away 28 exciting door prizes.
10 fantastic raffle items and 4 heirloom quilts were awarded to 14 happy winners.
The winning raffle tickets were drawn from 3 rolling drums by 2 adorable girls, 9-year-old Alysha Jasek and
10-year-old Shelby Wilson.
Odis Newton auctioned 23 items from the stage for $1,785.00.
4 tables covered with 29 silent auction items brought an additional $1,871.00.
If you were there, you had a ton of fun and if you weren’t you can give yourself 40 lashes with a wet noodle.
Seriously, folks, we hope you’ll plan to join the festivities in 2011.
Invitation
Please consider this your personal invitation
to a dinner to recognize the many wonderful
volunteers and donors who worked so hard to
make the Gala a success.
This will also be your opportunity to help
celebrate the retirement of Cape Carancahua’s
Maintenance Supervisor Gary Simpson. He is
retiring after many hard-working years of
keeping everything at the Cape running smoothly.
Join us at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at the new pavilion
across from the boat launch. We’ll provide the fajitas and drinks. Bring
a side dish if you like, but you are cordially invited to come with or
without. There will be more than enough for everyone.
