Seasons Greetings! D E V E L O P M E N T S Winter 2007 MVEDC Welcomes New Board Members The Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corporation (MVEDC) welcomes two new board members, Michael J. Pustateri, Jr. and David French. Michael J. Pusateri, Jr. A long time resident of East Liverpool, Mr. Pusateri is a principal in three businesses in Columbiana County: Mike Pusateri Excavating, Pipelines, Inc., and GMP Development. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Columbiana County Mental Health Board. David French Mr. French is from Roaming Shores in Ashtabula County and is president of Frenchs’ Inc. A mechanical engineer by training, Mr. French also served in the United States Air Force. He serves on the board of directors Michael Pusateri David French for the Northeast Ohio Boy Scout Council, the Ashtabula County Builders Association, and Growth Partnership of Ashtabula County. He is also a member of the Andover Rotary Club. - continued on page 3 Advantage Building Components Opens in N. Jackson Advantage Building Components, 12005 Council Drive, North Jackson NORTH JACKSON- Advantage Building Components, LLC is now doing business at the location of the former Fagan’s Manufacturing Company. Located on nearly 25 acres in North Jackson, the company manufactures wood roof and floor trusses and wall panels for single and multi-family residential properties. The project includes the purchase of an existing office/ showroom/ manufacturing facility, six additional open storage structures and the land on which the business sits. In addition to the structures and land, the principals have purchased the equipment of the former business. The project was financed by a loan from S&T Bank of Pennsylvania, and by loans from the US Department of Agriculture, the Mahoning Valley Industrial Loan Fund and a Regional 166 loan, all through the MVEDC. Liberty in Girard GIRARD- There’s a new Days Inn and Suites in Girard. The hotel is at the location of the former Econolodge on Liberty Street, just off Belmont Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Desai owned the Econolodge from 1992 until a fire partially destroyed it in 2004. The Desai’s continue ownership of the Days Inn and Suites, and have brought their son Krupal in as majority owner and manager. The younger Mr. Desai has been general manager of East Hanover Hotel Corporation in Grantville, Pennsylvania, overseeing four hotels in the Hershey area. The renovation and conversion of the motel was made possible with financing from National Republic Bank of Chicago and an SBA 504 loan through the MVEDC. Renovations to the property include an indoor pool and breakfast facility. The business expects to employ 14. Boardman Subaru Expands Service Capacity Charles E. Wern, Jr. President James M. French Executive Director CPC D4533-R1207 The new service facility at Boardman Subaru BOARDMAN- Boardman Subaru, 7811 South Avenue, has gone through a major transformation. With financing from Huntington Bank and an SBA 504 loan through the MVEDC, owner Rob Fellman added a 7,200 square foot structure to the existing facility. The new space provides for a six bay service area, service lounge and office space. Part of the existing building was converted into showroom space. Mr. Fellman has been the area’s Subaru dealer since 2005 when he purchased the franchise from its previous owner. Recent sales numbers show the dealership as number one Subaru dealer in the district for both purchase and performance. The expansion will allow the business to add eight new employees in the service, office and rental departments. Building Component Manufacturer Expands New Board Members continued from page 1 Mr. Pusateri and Mr. French join a board comprised of individuals from Mahoning, Trumbull and Geauga counties. Activities of the MVEDC impact businesses in six counties in northeast Ohio. The corporation is also authorized by the U.S. Small Business Administration to conduct business in Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania. Gerald Brandon and Chris Cherne operating the metal lathe line at Niles Building Products manufacturing facility on Summit Street in Niles NILES- With financing from Chase Bank, the City of Niles Revolving Loan Fund and a USDA Intermediary Relending Program loan through MVEDC, Niles Building Products is purchasing new equipment and expanding to a new location to increase production. The company produces steel expansion control joints, metal corners and other items used in the construction of large commercial buildings. The addition of a Samco lathe line and related equipment will allow the company to produce galvanized metal lathe mesh, which it uses in production of its products. Niles Building Products previously purchased the metal mesh from an outside vendor. The additional capability will allow the company to fully meet its production needs by producing the quantity of mesh it needs to fulfill orders for its products. Holly Mang is President and CEO of the company, a position she has held since 2002. Ms. Mang expects to add six new employees. BUSINESS LOANS Fixed Rates As Low As 4.25 Percent! Columbiana Company Moves and Expands COLUMBIANA- Michael and Renee Weikart have purchased and renovated property in Columbiana to house their expanding business, Custom Comfort Systems. The two have owned the plumbing, heating and construction business since 2000. The business specializes in installation and service for whole house and business heating and air conditioning systems. The new facility at 44725 State Route 14 includes a showroom, garage, storage building, and manufacturing space as well as an office. The project also includes the purchase of metal facbrication equipment that will allow the Weikarts to produce components for the business. Funding for the project came from Consumers Bank, as well as from the Small Business Administration 504 and the Intermediary Relending loan programs through MVEDC. The Weikarts employ seven and expect to add five additional employees over the next three years. Smith Printing Company has added new equipment at its new location on Simon Road in Boardman. The company now offers a thermal CTP (Computer to Plate) system, eliminating all chemistry to produce metal plates in its pre-press production process. The business also purchased a Duplo System 5000 Bookmaker, operated by Janice Burd, is a truly automatic collating and booklet maker that produces up to 5,000 books per hour or 10,000 collated sets per hour. Both systems expand the capacity of the full-service communications solution provider, owned by Ron Smith. The purchases were made possible with financing from Chase Bank, along with loans from the Mahoning Valley Industrial Loan Fund and the Department of Agriculture Intermediary Relending Program through MVEDC.
