Farewell
Tomorrow, we say goodbye and good luck to our Year 6
students. We had the opportunity last night at the Graduation
Dinner and Presentation ceremony to farewell these students
and appropriately acknowledge their individual and collective
contribution to Mont Albert Primary School over the past
seven years. Congratulations to all Year Six students for the
way they presented and conducted themselves last night and
throughout 2014.

Sincere thanks to all staff who contributed to a most
successful Graduation evening - Year 6 teachers, Miss Anna
Johnstone, Mrs Leah Stevenson and Mr James Owen as too all
teachers who have had input along our Year 6 students’
journey. Thank you for the fantastic support from the Year 6
parent helpers and Graduation Committee who made a most
significant contribution to this year’s graduation, assisting
with outstanding hall decorations, preparing and serving the
food, setting up and clearing the hall. Miss Tilly Ludon has
spent countless hours assisting Year 6 teachers with the Year

Future Dates For Your Diary
2015
To students who are leaving Mont Albert Primary School for a
range of reasons, before the completion of Year 6, I wish you
well at your new schools. I hope you and your families will all
look upon your time at Mont Albert with fabulous memories.
As another most successful year at Mont Albert Primary
School draws to a close with the school producing yet again
its best ever Academic Achievement data and Attitudes to
School data I would like to express my appreciation to all
School Councillors for their support and advice throughout
the 2014 school year. I would also like to acknowledge the
wonderful contributions made by parents and staff at Mont
Albert. It is only with this effort and sense of community that
our school continues to be the learning community it is.
I would especially like to thank Jehrom Clift for his
unwavering support for the school – staff, administration and
community; his leadership of school council; his wise advice
on many issues and his always passionate and positive
conversations both public and private about our school.
Mr Andrew Searle and Mr Craig Crouch have also been
exceptional in what they continue to bring to the school in

their role/s as Assistant Principal/s and the consistent,
unwavering support that they give to me and all staff. We
wish Andrew all the very best as he now continues his
journey as Principal of Knox Park Primary School and look
forward to welcoming Ms Paula Heenan next year to the
role of Assistant Principal.

FUNCARE
Barry Stuart for the garden and maintenance service he
provides each week
Our Computer technicians Phuong Phan, Ian Clarke and
Kevin Wiley for their expertise in this ever developing
area.
Funcare has received the results back from our
accreditation.
During the process 58 elements were
assessed across 7 quality areas of The National Quality
Standard ratings.
Ratings promote transparency and accountability and help
parents assess the quality of education and care services
available. Every service receives a rating for each quality
area and an overall rating. These ratings must be displayed
by each service and are published on the ACECQA and the
MyChild websites.
There are five rating levels within the national quality
rating and assessment process:

Excellent rating, awarded by ACECQA

Exceeding National Quality Standard

Meeting National Quality Standard

Working Towards National Quality Standard

Significant Improvement Required.

ARTISTIC AUDREY
You will have seen these logos on badges and
posters, but may not have known that a student
designed them.
When the Wellbeing team were introducing the
Transition Ambassadors program, we were
brainstorming ideas for a logo and took some of
these ideas to Audrey Thomas (who was in Year 4
then). She created the ladder logo and later
designed the Peer Mediator logo. The other day
Audrey said that when she grows up she’d like to
be a graphic designer and create logos and fonts;
we wouldn’t be surprised if she does! Thanks
Audrey!

Year 2s- Fairy Tale Castles
Year 2 students have been learning about Fairy Tales this
term and we integrated this topic in Visual Arts. Students
turned a papier mache house into a fairy tale castle by
applying paint, moulding magiclay into towers and creating
flags with toothpicks and paper. We then used posca pens
to draw patterns on the roof and walls to represent tiles
and bricks. To make the fairy tale castle shimmer we
painted on fairy dust and glued on gems. They look fabulous!

The Choir celebrated the year with a performance
at Box Hill Central on Monday. We sang our Carols
and the Recorder Ensemble also performed. Thanks
to Linda Humphries, Chi Tran, Lin See Tan and

Thanks also to Akiko for a wonderful year of
voluntary service accompanying the Choir each
week. Many thanks to Lin See Tan and Fiona
Markham for organising the dry cleaning of the
robes.
The last performance for the Choir this year will be
at the final Assembly on Friday morning. The
Choir is required at 8.30am in the PAC for a quick
rehearsal.
Please return any hired instruments and music tops
to the PAC before lunchtime on Friday.

G IFT TO THE S CHOOL 2014
At the end of every year, Year 6 students create a ‘Gift to the
School’ to leave behind as a memory of their time at Mont
Albert Primary School. This year the students created their
self-portrait in clay and cut the clay out to look like a tile. Each
student engraved their facial features with a skewer and once
the clay was dry students painted over a black glaze and
wiped it back for the glaze to fall in the lines. Each tile is glued
on in class grades along the wall of the Senior Building (back of
the Library). Thank you for
your gift Year 6s and all
the best on your next
journey.

B OOK C LUB
This year through the Scholastic Book Club, we raised over
$2,800 in books and resources for the Library and classrooms
– the school gets 20% of total orders as rewards with which
to purchase books and resources.
We could not have achieved this without the dedicated
support of a team of parents who give up their time for a
few hours each term. This includes time for sorting and
stamping the Book Club brochures, counting money and
orders, placing orders and most importantly, sorting the
hundreds of books when they come in for distribution to the
excited children. We would like to take this opportunity to
thank Nicole McCarthy, Karen Woods, Kathryn Scully, Natalie
de Bono, Jeff Parker, Andrea Misso, Flo Mistica, Marg
Brewerton, Hong Gui, Kevin Tan, Michelle Allan, Tanya
Lancefield and Tim Woods.
Book Club will be back in Term 1 next year. See you in 2015!
