Do you enjoy helping others? Would you like to see lots of smiling little faces? Then you might be the volunteer that Mrs. Smoot is looking for!!! Mrs. Smoot, Woodbridge’s librarian, could use some help in the library this year. You can make your own hours and stop by when it is convenient. The job entails putting the books back onto the shelves after our amazing readers have read them. Please consider being a library helper this year. Even 1 hour a week would help us! In the past, some moms and dads have volunteered in the morning after dropping their child(ren) off to school or they come to the library an hour before dismissal in the afternoon, help in the library and then get their child for dismissal. Thank you for your consideration! Woodbridge’s Website Information Keep up-to-date with the news at Woodbridge Elementary School. All in the school community are welcome! Also, we ask that students who are part of our performing ensembles, Fourth Grade Chorus and Fifth Grade instrumentalists, please take advantage of rehearsal times in school by practicing what you’ve learned AT HOME. Practice outside of school is especially crucial for beginning instrument players as they’ve only had their instruments since this year began. Let’s make sure student are making the best use of the opportunity and investment in playing by coming prepared for school lessons, having practiced weekly assignments given by Ms. Green and bringing instruments and materials to school on lesson days. Recorder units have begun for third graders learning the mystery of the treble clef, musical alphabet, and five line staff. This skill is a necessary prerequisite to playing any instrument. Recorders that were ordered will be coming home within the week. Students are not required to bring them to and from school as in-class recorders are provided for lesson use. However, students are encouraged to practice what they learn at home in preparation for our Recorder Recital for third graders on Monday, May 13th at 2 PM. More information will be coming home as we get closer to that date. If you did not buy a recorder for home use through the school, you may consider looking at Toys R Us or local music stores like Bill’s Music in Catonsville. Beware of quality as you search. If you have questions please feel free to contact Ms. Ciganek at eciganek@bcps.org. AT HOME: March is designated by the National Association for Music Education as ―Music in Our Schools Month.‖ One of the things we can do at home to celebrate music and keep music a part of our daily lives and in our schools is to share something positive you remember from your school music experience with your child. Perhaps you’ve heard the sentence ―Every Good Boy Does Fine‖ to help remember the five lines of the staff or you remember singing Yankee Doodle when you were in school. Maybe you remember what your first time was like playing an instrument. Talk with your child about the role music plays in your everyday lives. Community Thanks We would like to extend several thanks to our PTA Executive Board and parent volunteers. They have recently sponsored the Spelling Bee, Book Fair, Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly, Sweetheart Dance, and school play ―The Trial of Mother Goose.‖ These past several weeks have been full of hours of extracurricular activities due to your planning and volunteering that have made for a wonderful winter. Thank you also to parents and families that helped contribute to our Claire’s Gourmet fundraiser. Your sacrifice is appreciated. Several individuals have been helping out a lot in classrooms. The support of Ms. Haejin Suk in Miss Schiffhauer’s kindergarten, Miss Kara Daniels in Mrs. Alagna’s second grade, Mr. William Parson and Mrs. Holly Reinhardt in Mrs. Jacobs kindergarten class really has made a positive difference. Thanks also to Mrs. Loving who donated 2 new dye cut pads for the dye cut machine and 300 binder rings for making books at school. Thank you also to all the families and Baltimore Blast for attending the blast night volleyball game. What a great way to show school community support by coming together for something so fun!
