As part of Dynamic Catholic, Alive, 2016 will be
devoted to study. Matthew Kelly talks about the
Genius of Catholicism, the intellectual riches
produced by centuries of saints and scholars. We
encourage you to learn as much as possible about
the faith this year. Do you have a Catholic study
bible and Catechism? The Compendium of the
Catechism of the Catholic Church is a great
starting resource. We have lists of recommended
books at archstl.org/dynamic.
Dear Parishioners,
Next Sunday, January 17, 2016 is Subscription Sunday for the St.
Louis Review – the newspaper of our Archdiocese. In this month’s
packet of contribution envelopes, there is a reminder envelope for
your annual subscription to the Review. If you give electronically
through Faith Direct, there is an option there as well. If you do not
have parish envelopes, you may contact us in the parish office. A
one-year subscription is $30. A one year electronic subscription is
$20.
If you enjoy receiving the Review and want to continue receiving it,
I ask that you please pay for your subscription. If you wish to
receive the Review, but find the subscription is cost-prohibitive for
you, I certainly understand and appreciate that. We are willing and
glad to provide it to anyone who cannot afford it, if they will find it
useful. Please notify us at the parish office at (636) 227-7440 if
you do not wish to receive the St. Louis Review or if we can be of
assistance.
On another note, thanks to all who make people feel so welcomed
into our parish family Sunday after Sunday. There are many in our
parish family who regularly work to build up God’s kingdom here in
Ballwin. As you know, studies indicate that people will decide
whether or not they are going to return to a Catholic Church within
the first nine minutes that they are present.
So, let’s all redouble our efforts to be warm, welcoming and
engaging to each other as we come and go from worship and
other events here at Holy Infant. And let’s make a special
concerted effort to extend a greeting, a warm welcome, and a
helping hand if needed, to anyone who may not be familiar to us
when we see them.
God’s blessings to you and your family in this New Year!

The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion in
the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die
to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words, as
baptized Catholics there is only one gift we need to give
to Jesus—the gift of ourselves. Once we surrender
ourselves to God, we will know in our hearts what God
calls us to do.

Our 25th year of Monday Night Basketball is underway. We
have added a time slot for men 50 and older who would like
to play. It doesn’t matter if you have played in the league
before or if this is your first time. Please know that you are
welcome! Just come to the gym any Monday. Our time slot is
from 7:00 to 7:50 p.m. Try it out! You don’t have to play
every week (just when you can make it). We hope to see you
for some exercise and fellowship.

The divine Spirit is manifested in all of the scriptures for
this feast. Psalm 104 highlights the Spirit of God creating
and renewing the earth, while the reading from Isaiah
describes God restoring Israel. In Luke’s account of the
baptism of the Lord, the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus.
And the letter to Titus reminds us that the Holy Spirit was
“richly poured out” on us also, through the “bath of
rebirth” (Titus 3:5, 6).
