The Border Latino & American Indian Summer Exposure to Research (BLAISER) is a cuttingedge program at the University of Arizona, Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) designed to empower students to enter Medical School, Health Professions and Graduate School. This opportunity is for undergraduates majoring in the biomedical fields to learn about the bench-to-bedside research process and prepare for a translational career in biomedical research or academic medicine. The 2015 Program will be held from June 7 to August 12, 2015. Program Highlights • • • • • • • Mentorship from a UA biomedical researcher or medical scientist working on translational research Gain hands-on experience conducting research Learn about minority health disparities Enhance your GRE and MCAT skills Create and present a research poster Obtain additional clinical and community health mentoring the following academic year Experience a scientific community of students who have similar goals Student Eligibility • • • • • US Citizen OR US Permanent Resident Current Junior status or beyond Cumulative 3.25 GPA Latinos, Native Americans and African Americans; populations that are underrepresented in the biomedical and health sciences Currently majoring in: biology, chemistry, physiology, microbiology, engineering, computer sciences and similar fields Offerings • • • $4,000 stipend On campus housing for non-UA students, paid by the program Six units upper division graded undergraduate research Visit www.diversity.medicine.arizona.edu/blaiser for more information and to apply Application Deadline March 27, 2015 Maria Teresa Velez, Ph.D Director, BLAISER Associate Dean, Graduate College mvelez@grad.arizona.edu | (520) 621-3475
