Architect Design Analysis
Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto was born on Feburary 3rd, 1898; he was a Finnish architect, designer, sculptor and painter. Alvar was one of Finland’s greatest architects and is recognized today as one of the greatest masters of modern architecture. During his career he worked on several structures such as Villa Marera, Vyborg Library, Paimi Sanatorium and Architect’s Studio. Working with other architect’s such as Walter Gropius, a German architect, and Erik Bryggman, a Finnish architect. Drawing inspiration from Fernand Leger, Jean Arp and Constantin Brancusi , all visual artists, who nourished his fondness for curvilinear shapes. In my architect design analysis i have chosen to examine Alvar Aalto’s Architect’s Studio. The structure was built in Munkkiniemi, Helsinki 1953 -1956. Alvar Aalto’s approach to his design was to create a space that provides tranquility for the individual and possible group work. The studio does not resemble that of a conventional architect’s studio but more so of a residence. Feature such as the side garden and amphitheatre are what adds to the studio’s unconventional demeanor. Elevation Plan View/ Site Section Mathlyn Mckie Architect Design Analysis ARCH 2310
