Tabula Rasa, known for its dreamy mélange of knit ready-to-wear and home accessories, will introduce a line of rugs to its expanding
collection of textiles in Summer 2015. Design Emily Diamandis states “I have enjoyed working on a much larger scale with this new rug
collection. I approach the design process in a completely different way; pattern and color take on a new meaning. A sweater stitch doesn’t
always translate on a rug and a textural stitch or pattern that looks great as a sweater often gets lost in a rug. With rugs, you have to turn
up the volume.”
The first pattern of the high-impact, geometric rug designs to debut, the Owami, takes cues from the 1960’s Hard Edge Movement
associated with the work of artists including Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly and Karl Banjamin whose paintings depicted areas of saturated
color and a “neatness of surface”. The large-scale geometric motif and checkered print add a new dimension to any floor, bringing style
and personality to contemporary and traditional interiors alike. Bright pinks and ruby reds meet natural oat and camel hues in a color
pallet that draws from the vibrant culture and majestic dunes of India’s Mihirgarh desert. “The Owami pattern makes a bold statement.
Rugs can make or break a room. Most people are scared to play with pattern, but the right one can pull a room together,” says Diamandis.
