Ross Orlando's Tahoe Spotlight
Harrah’s had their grand opening
of PEEK Nightclub that was hosted by
American Heiress, socialite, television
personality, businesswomen, fashion
designer, entrepreneur, model,
actress, producer, author and singer,
Paris Hilton. Harrah’s is investing
$1 million in entertainment plans
and renovations to the existing
6,700 square foot nightclub that was
formally called VEX Nightclub. 40
intimate VIP sections, sexy female
and male dancers, aerialists flying
high above with sexy outfits and
dazzling the crowd, two bars, new
dance floor, furniture, carpeting, wall
coverings, lights, lasers, video wall
and more. PEEK will host some
of the world’s biggest names in
entertainment, including big named
Vegas, Miami, New York, and L.A.
DJ’s. They partnered with Back Bar
USA of Las Vegas. Paris brought her
parents, cousins, friends and 21-yearold boyfriend, Spanish model River
Viiperi. She was also celebrating her
32nd birthday and Harrah’s brought
out a cake for her. The famous media
princess was all smiles and looked
hot in her short black dress. The
great-granddaughter of the founder
of Hilton Hotels, Conrad Hilton,
and was once married to Elizabeth
Taylor, welcomed the very excited
packed house crowd and tossed out
styrofoam light sabers. Her Mom
Kathy was shaking a lot of hands, as
was Paris to everyone up and down
the front area. Tons of photos were
being taken. Paris has 42 Paris Hilton
stores worldwide. She just released
her 15th perfume fragrance with the
empire worth upwards of 1.5 billion
dollars. She’s been on around 50
magazine covers, does charity work
for Toys for Tots, and designs high end
purses, clothes, and shoes and just
did a rap song with Lil Wayne. Variety
magazine in 2011 named her Billion
Dollar Entrepreneur and featured
Paris on their cover. She hosted
Saturday Night Live in 2005, wrote
2 books, TV reality series included
“The Simple Life” and Paris Hilton’s
“My New BFF”, cameo film roles
and has launched many world wide
companies. Everyone was having a
good time and PEEK is a great-added
bonus to Tahoe.

Entertainment & Events
We have a ginormous month of
entertainment this March with shows
every weekend, and some great new
shows coming up this Spring.
The
biggest show of the winter, though,
is taking place on campus at Lawlor
Event Center, March 7. The biggest
DJ in the world, Tiësto, is bringing
his Club Life Campus Invasion Tour
to the University of Nevada Reno. As
you can image, the floor tickets for
this event sold out immediately, but as
of this writing, the 2nd tier tickets are
still available at TicketsWest.com or at
the Lawlor Event Center Box Office.
DJ’s Tommy Trash, Quintino, Alvaro,
and Erik Lobe spin this date, with a
massive sound and lighting package.
This is the biggest DJ show to ever hit
UNR, so come join the biggest party
this winter.
The Expendables have sold-out
nearly every show in Lake Tahoe, and
this year they bring their Life’s A Beach
tour to MontBleu along with Southern
California Reggae band, Pacific Dub,
and Reno’s own Keyser Soze, March
6.
St Patty’s Day is going to be
amazing with Umphrey’s McGee from
South Bend, Indiana whose music
is often referred to as "progressive
improvisation", or "improg". Don’t miss
them March 17 inside the MontBleu
Theatre.
Actor/Comedian
Rob
Schneider brings is hilarious comedy
to MontBleu on March 23.
His
roles on SNL, and in numerous movies
including The Water Boy (“You can do
it”), Deuce Bigalow, Hot Chicks, The
Animal, and so many more, make Rob
Schneider such a hilarious evening of
laughter and great shtick. Don’t miss
this one, March 23.
For EDM fans, we are doing a
very special benefit show inside Blu
nightclub on March 29 for the League
To Save Lake Tahoe. “Silent Disco”
powered by Silent Storm Systems, is
coming to the South Shore for the first
time. Everybody that comes in gets a
headset. There are two DJ’s spinning
at once. You tune into the DJ you want
to groove to, and dance the night away.
There are 8 DJ’s total throughout the
night, each spinning two at a time.
Headlining the event is Clark Kent,
along with DJ’s Equinox, Benjah
The Ninja, Oscar Daniel, Jeremy
Curl, Carey White, Dead Robot, and
Alcheme. Advance tickets are $20,
and $25 at the door. Advanced tickets
are highly recommend for this event,
Friday, March 29 inside Blu nightclub
at MontBleu.
Once of the biggest shows this
Spring will undoubtedly be The
Shins. This Indie Rock band from
Albuquerque, NM, will make their Lake
Tahoe debut on May 11. Head over to
our PRE fansite for your chance to win
tickets and VIP package at MontBleu
for this show. www.facebook.com/

Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly
I am busy packing my bags and
getting to hit the road for a couple days
with Too $hort. Its such an honor to work
with some of the people I do. I have to say
- growing up, I never would have guessed
I would be doing what I do today and I
certainly have no regrets! A day in the
office is an interesting one for me. Maybe
one day I'll start my own reality show and
you all can see for yourself... Hey that's
not a bad idea, could be the next chapter
of Late-Nite Productions! For the month
of March we have a few exciting shows
over at Blu Nightclub inside Montbleu
Resort and here they are!
Friday, March 22nd we have an
Underground Hip-Hop Showcase with
Sage Francis and B.Dolan plus other up
and coming artists from the area including
Logic-One (South Lake), Golden Gloves
(Auburn), and Ekoh (Las Vegas). Sage
Francis is widely considered one of our
generation’s greatest lyricists. Dubbed
as the “forefather of indie-hop,” Francis
originally earned acclaim in the early
2000′s by winning the most highly coveted
titles of the emcee battle circuit. Despite
having no official distribution, Francis’
unique brand of music spread like wildfire
via the advent of file sharing networks.
This resulted in him attaining a massive
cult-like following around the world,
creating a demand for his albums which
was too high for him to accommodate all
on his own. By 2005 Sage Francis was
the first hip-hop artist signed to Epitaph
Records and soon became one of the
highest selling independent artists of
his genre. Now in 2013 Sage Francis
continues to do what he does best and
is bringing his show right here to Lake
Tahoe!
Monday, April 1st the sweet sounds
of Reggae Music will be in the air as
Late-Nite Productions will be hosting an
evening of Island Vibes with J-Boog
and Hot Rain. J Boog is a man of many
influences. The singer of Samoan descent
was born in Long Beach and raised in
Compton, California. Growing up in the
rough streets of Compton, the strong
sense of tradition and culture that J Boog
absorbed from his family was instrumental
in his path to stay off the streets and begin
a successful music career. These days
Boog is either in a studio, on a stage or
catching a flight. Radio interviews have
become a daily thing and it's a little
overwhelming for the young artist, though
he has been smart enough to keep his
humility. He has a great sense of humor
and an even better sense of reality. He
can be overheard saying how blessed he
is on a daily basis. It's easy to see why J
Boog has been winning over fans when
you meet him. He has the right spirit and
attitude to carry him to the next level.
Friday, April 5th we bring you a true
legend in Underground Hip-Hop. Hailing
from Oakland, California comes Del the
Funky Homosapien no doubt a true
innovator in the world of underground
Hip-Hop. Del got his start rapping behind
his cousin, Ice Cube, as a member of his
back-up band and crew. After parting ways,
Del ventured out as a solo artist, making
music that immediately gained attention.
Del's music offered a fresh new outlook
on an otherwise gangsta rap controlled
California Hip-Hop scene. His viewpoint
offered a more detached alternative style
laced with humorous rhymes and funky
beats. Fed up with the commercialized
music industry, Del began working with
his crew, the Hieroglyphics, to create a
massive independent network of Oakland
based Hip-Hop. Next Del Linked up
with powerhouse producer Dan "the
Automator" and world-class turntablist
Kid Koala, Del helped to create one of the
most innovative Hip-Hop albums in recent
history - the result was Deltron 3030. The
ideas and concepts born with Deltron
3030 allowed for the creation of his next
project, the globally embraced "Gorillaz"
collaboration. Del's lead vocals on the
smash single "Clint Eastwood" helped
the Gorillaz sell over 5 million records
worldwide. Del has successfully released
quality, critically acclaimed material for
over 10 years. There seems to be no
stopping him and as history has shown.
Del's lyrics and wordplay are the Midas
touch to his wonderful taste in production.
Del the Funky Homosapien has grown
from the 17 year-old protege of Ice
Cube, to a crafted artist, whose hypnotic
voice has transcended the norm, taking
underground Hip-Hop to an even deeper
level.
Don't forget to stop by 7800' when
you're out at Kirkwood for some great
Food, Drink and Live Music on the
weekends. We have to shout out Sierra
at Tahoe and Tahoe Blue Vodka as well
as all the Tahoe Locals that continue to
support the scene. You can find us at
www.LateNiteProductions.com
and
you can "like" us at www.Facebook.com/
LateNiteProductions for more information!
See you next month with more great
shows! Keep the Vibe Alive! ~LateNiteBilly
Comedy From The Mountain
Hello fans of the funny and those who
just couldn’t wait until Spring (yes, I know. I
capitalized it). Are you happy now? I kinda
miss Winter (yes, I know. I capitalized it)
and to be honest it wasn’t that severe of a
winter. But now here it is and it’s just going
to get warmer. I guess the good thing about
Spring is the shedding of some pounds,
tossing things out so you don’t like the cast
from “Hoarders” and the start of outdoor
concerts. We also get to set all the clocks
forward again which here in Tahoe means
having to adjust the time somewhat to
allow being in our own time zone known
as Tahoe Time. Other than that it’s time
to get ready to dust off the bicycle, know
that the dogs will be shedding some and
slowly start putting away the thick clothing
and trying to shed some of the thickness
that has accumulated on the body.
One guy who knows a thing or two
about body temps is Scott Kennedy. Why?
Well, because he’s been overseas some
60 times bringing comics to the Middle
East to entertain our troops in Kuwait,
Iraq and Afghanistan. I was fortunate
enough to be invited on one of those tours
performing with Scott (who hosted) and
Graham Elwood. Scott is a big guy that
you can hide behind which is one of the
reasons I said, “Yes” going to Kuwait and
Iraq because I knew there was more than
enough room to take shelter if things got a
little hairy over there. It’s been estimated
that Scott has entertained close to 75,000
military personnel over the past eight or
nine years he’s been going over there. I’m
looking forward to catching up with him
because he’s the best. Performing with
Scott is Carlie & Doni. These two blew
everybody away so much the first time
there were here that we asked them to
come back right away. They are hilarious
but more importantly it’s very rare finding
a good comedy duo and even rarer
finding one with such great chemistry.
They haven’t been together that long
having first met in 2005 at Los Angeles
Community College Theater Academy.
They both were on the same page and
quit because they couldn’t be bothered
with the format for what was supposed to
be funny. Sometimes it’s instinctive and
just can’t be taught. Both play guitar, but
had a knack for all things improvisational
and both are well, completely opposite
which makes for a great bond when fusing
together a successful comedy duo. Doni
is a lesbian while Carlie is heterosexual
with a preference for “guys with accents- I
don’t date Americans.” They both sing and
play acoustic guitar and their comedy is
matched only by how well they harmonize
together. Scott along with Carlie & Doni
March 6th through the 10th.
Mark Pitta returns and it was literally
the last minute too. Mark is an East Bay boy
having come up the same time as Robin
Williams, Kevin Pollack, Bob Sarlatte
and Dana Carvey (to name but a mere
few). Pitta has appeared on “The Tonight
Show,” “3rd Rock From the Sun,” “Mad
About You,” Fox’s “Totally Hidden Video,”
“Comedy Central” and many others.
When he came back to the City by the
Bay he was tapped as the entertainment
reporter for the fledgling FOX affiliate,
KTVU Channel 2 (seen here on channel
11 on cable). He did that for a while
until he got fed up with having to get up
weekdays at 4am (oh man can I relate to
that). Despite all of his accomplishments
I think his biggest happens every Tuesday
night at The Throckmorton Theatre in
Mill Valley. That’s right. Tuesday nights
it’s comedy night with ‘Pitta & Friends’
and every Tuesday that theater
is
packed. Packed with some of the biggest
names in showbiz. Pitta (as we all call
him) has made a very good name for
himself having toured with so many
great acts that include Paul Anka, Howie
Mandel and Dana Carvey. He has great
improvisational skills occasionally sitting
in with the famed improvisational group,
The Groundlings when he was living in
southern California. Mark’s other greatest
passion (outside of comedy) is baseball
and like myself celebrated big time when
our San Francisco Giants won the World
Series. In fact, I remember two years ago
when he was here it was the same week
The Giants won the World Series. Another
great week with Pitta and Marc Price too.
He’s done a lot more than playing ‘Skippy’
on the NBC show, “Family Ties” that’s for
sure. What’s cool though is that he still
brings it up in hios show because people
love it. Pitta and Price March 13th through
the 17th.
I look forward to a lot of the acts that
come up here because many of them are
good friends too. Such is the case with
my favorite Latina comedienne, Shayla
Rivera. If her name sounds familiar that’s
because she’s on my morning radio show
every Wednesday with her segment, “It’s
Rocket Science With Shayla Rivera.” She
came up with that name because it was
based loosely on her one-woman show,
“Rocket Science and Salsa: The Shayla
Rivera Story” (directed by renowned actor/
choreographer Debbie Allen and written
by Shayla Rivera and Michael Ajakwe,
Jr.) that chronicled her story from being
raised in Puerto Rico and then moving on
to graduating with honors from Texas AM
University, to working as a bonafide rocket
scientist for NASA and yes, chucking it all
deciding that a life of stand-up would be
more rewarding (if not more profitable)
than that of a boring scientist! I can still
hear her parents crying somewhere out
there. Of all the comics I’ve known Shayla
has the most interesting story working
on the space shuttle program and Space
Station systems at NASA’s Johnson
Space Center in Houston. As it turns out
comedy was an excellent move for her
because in addition to her stage work
Shayla does fundraisers for the Hispanic
community. A lot of fundraisers. This is
the very first time that she’s headlined up
here so I’m really proud of her and looking
Howie Nave
forward to her being back. She’s built up
a nice following up here because of her
show on Wednesdays and I promised her
we’d have enough snow to hit the slopes
in Homewood so I’m crossing my fingers.
Appearing with Shayla it’s Rick D’Elia
who we haven’t seen in a long time so
once again it’s going to be a great week to
play catch-up with both Rick and Shayla.
See them together March 27th through
the 31st.
Howie Nave is the host/emcee/
manager of The Improv @ Harveys every
Wednesday through Sunday and also
hosts his own morning show (“Howie’s
Morning Rush”) on KRLT 93-9 The Lake
M-F 6-10am which also streams online
so you can log on anywhere all over the
planet and catch Howie’s radio show. He
also writes a weekly comedy column for
Action Magazine. You can follow him on

Fly Fishing
warmer temperatures of late the fishing
has started to show a fish or two but
not many anglers. If anything, Midges,
Stones and Baetis will be the diet with
the occasional streamer bite on warmer
days. The afternoons as it warms are
the best!
Winter fly fishing in Spring
conditions… we need snow which
obviously equals water for the fish! What
a dry spell we are having and hopefully
sometime during the run of this edition
we will get some much needed snow.
The good side is the fishing has been
wonderful and now it should continue to
be all the way till summer! The hatches
are good and the fish have been eating
dry flies which makes me happy but not
as happy as Chilean Patagonia did. Fly
fishing like it used to be around here
70 or 80 years ago! No people, lots of
fish and they ate dry flies as big as your
thumb. Here is the report for our area,
get out and fish!
East Carson River Fishing Report
– Currently flowing at 85+ CFS and
fluctuating with storms.
The catch and release section
below Hangman’s Bridge: With the
West Carson River Fishing Report
– Closed until Spring… You will see
people fishing on occasion, be nice and
let them know it is closed until the last
Saturday in April.
East Walker River Fishing ReportFlows are 22+ CFS.
CA section: Flows are at Winter
minimums with Midges and BWOs on
the menu. Dry fly fishing can be done on
certain days. Lots of Midges hatching but
the fish will eat a BWO as well. Cloudy
days are worth a look! Otherwise down
and dirty in the buckets. Access has
improved without snow. No snowshoes
required, strong ankles as the snow is
ice hard and extremely uneven.
Nevada section: The Rosachi
ranch is fishing and best during the
middle part of the day. Small Baetis
nymphs and midge pupae are working
with the occasional dry take. Baetis are
all over the place on cloudy days and
Attractor dries used as an indicator will
fool them now and again. Look for the
Stones to start anytime now! Orange
Stimi or Squalla imitation with a baetis
dropper works well when it starts. Guides
Available call 530-541-8208
Little Truckee River Fishing
Report- Flows are 120+ CFS.
Still plenty of fish in the system.
Look for fish on the rise if you can get up
the road. Midges most of the Winter with
occasional Baetis, BWOs and Winter
Stones. Access will be the challenge!
You definitely need a sled to get in as
the closest you can get in a vehicle is the
top of the reservoir. Some have driven
further but be careful!
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing ReportFlows are variable.
Year round section (CA) below
267 Bridge.
Hit and miss fishing all
winter long. Access will depend on snow
coverage. Midges Mostly all Winter
and looking for Baetis on Cloudy days.
Stones should start to work as we see
warmer days in March. Look for fish in
the pocket water and along the edges.
Truckee River (Nv) Fishing Report:
The hatches start low on the river. Look
for good days when the air temps hit 45F
or better. Midges and Baetis mainly with
the Baetis hatch starting mid day. The
fish are looking up! Stones have started
to work as well with the hatch not far off.
Tahoe Area Stillwaters & Ice
Fishing:
Pyramid Lake - Open and fishing
fairly well but mostly from boats and float
Victor Babbit
tubes.
Some fish have been caught
fishing from shore and a few big ones
as well which is great for Winter season
fishing! The fish are eating the Chubs
so look for pods of bait fish and throw
streamers to match! Indicator fishing has
been strong with rumor of a 20 pound
fish on a Chironomid. This has been one
of the best seasons recorded on Pyramid
for size of fish but not for numbers. If
you have been waiting to catch your 10#
plus, this is the year to spend the time
out there.
Indian Creek Reservoir – There
are still plenty of fish in Indian Creek and
they stocked just prior to all the storms!
Access is going to be the problem and
possible Ice. Buggers in Black, Olive
and or Brown have been working well.
Check for Ice before heading out. Should
start getting good any day now that the
weather has warmed a bit. Look for
Blood Midges!
Caples Lake - Ice is solid and on
the right day you can use a previously
drilled hole just with an axe or hammer.
Kastmasters, Worms or Power Bait!
Red Lake Fishing Report - Snow
on top of two thick layers of Ice. It is
fishing well on some days, slow on
others. Kastmasters, worms, power bait
and salmon eggs are each a good bet.
Get out and fish, the season never
ends around here!
