Ross Orlando's Tahoe Spotlight
The 24th Annual American Century
Celebrity
Golf
Championship
at
Edgewood Tahoe was won by former NFL
Quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver, for his 4th
victory at this prestigious tournament. Mark
Rypien former Redskins Quarterback and
1992 Super Bowl Champion was part of
a playoff and finished second. Baseballs'
All-Star Pitcher Mark Mulder was third.
Golden State Warriors NBA Guard
Stephen Curry tied for 4th with Football's
Chris Chandler. Curry who broke the NBA
record for three pointers made in a regular
season (272) was a 50-1 underdog to win
the event and was a leader at one time.
Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps
made a big splash as a fan favorite for the
first timer here in Tahoe. The most decorate
Olympian of all time, this swimmer won 18
gold and 22 medals overall including 39
world record times - wow! He said he was
happy to be in Tahoe and ready for some
fun. His golf coach, Hank Haney who has
coached Tiger Woods, Rush Limbaugh,
Ray Ramano, Sugar Ray Leonard and
Charles Barkley to name a few, was on the
range to help Phelps all week. Comedian
and Actor Bill Engvall who was next to
Phelps on the range joked, "come on is
that fair?" Another first timer and crowd
favorite, Larry the Cable Guy was a huge
crowd favorite. He is a member of the Blue
Collar Comedy Tour with Jeff Foxworthy,
Ron White and Bill Engvall. Larry has been
winning awards for his comedy albums
and TV show "Only in America with Larry
the Cable Guy." He was the first person to
wear a sleeveless shirt that is his trademark
along with the saying - get errrrrr done! He
told me it was exciting being here and the
celebs, police, fans and volunteers wanted
to meet him. Actor Lucas Black from TV's
"Friday Night Lights", "Gothic" and movies,
"Fast & Furious", "42" as the role of Pee
Wee Reese about the life of legendary
Jackie Robinson, "Sling Blade", "The
X-Files" and more was a leader at one
tome before finishing 6th.
Nascar's Michael Waltrip and Denny
Hamlin were happy to be here also.
Popular celebs like Ray Romano, Kevin
Nealon, Bode Miller, Goose Gossage,
Kelly Slater, Ray Allen, Jack Wagner,
Alfonso Ribiero, Aaron Rodgers,
John Elway, Jerry Rice, John Smoltz,
Jeremy Roenick, Shane Battier, Chipper
Jones, David Justice, David Wells, Joe
Theisman, Ozzie Smith, Greg Maddux,
A.J. Hawk, Penny Hardaway, Marshall
Faulk, Mike Eruzione, Jerome Bettis,
Marcus Allen and Jim McMahon were all
apart of the field of 85 athletes, coaches,
actors, TV personalities and musicians.
On hole 17 were all the boats and
bikinis are, there is some fun heckling
going on and lots of balls being tossed
back and forth between the excited crowd
and celebs. NBC-TV shows all of Lake
Tahoe's beauty and the fun of the biggest
celebrity tournament in the world. Harrah's
and Harveys the host hotels do an excellent
job providing the players and guest a great
time with parties and hospitality. Michael
Jordan wasn't able to attend this year and
the Ambassador Charles Barkley was
injured just days before this exciting event.
Harveys Outdoor Arena had country
superstar Tim McGraw. He walked
through the crowd to give many smiles as
he entered the stage. At 46 he is as fit as
a fiddle and the women love him. Selling
more than 40 million records and winning
every award their is and appearing in "The
Blind Side", "Friday Night Lights", and
"Flika", Tim put on a star-studded show
once again. Coming next August 27 is fun.
with Tegan and Sara. You will here "We
Are Young", "Carry On"' and "Some Night".
August 30 is country star Brad Paisley
who has 18 No. 1 hits. He is always very
entertaining and does some cover tunes
that are cool. Chris Young and Lee Brice
will open. September 4 is Dave Matthews
Band and September 14 is Journey.
MontBleu Outdoor Arena opened
with The 2nd Annual Lake Tahoe Reggae
Festival. It was 9 hours of fun with 8
performers. SOJA was the headliner, they
mixed a blend of Jazz with their Reggae to
make a really unique show. They also had
events with The B-52's and KC and the
Sunshine Band. Slightly Stoopid and
Atmosphere, Bass Camp an Electronic
Dance Music Festival. August 21 they
have Rebelution, Matisyahu with Collie
Buddz and Zion-I August 24 Boil 'n Fry

Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly
So July 2013 truly went down in the
History books for Late-Nite Productions.
Although we book virtually every genre of
music, I produce A LOT of Underground
Hip-Hop shows and what I am about to
talk about is nothing less than AMAZING.
When I saw that Slightly Stoopid,
Atmosphere, Tribal Seeds and Grouch
and Eligh had been booked (congrats
on the sold out show PR Entertainment
& Montbleu) I thought to myself, what
would be the ultimate compliment to that
lineup.....so I called up a long time friend
of mine, MURS from Living Legends /
Felt and asked him if he wanted to jump
on the after party and he was all about it.
Now of course, in the back of my mind I
was thinking how unimaginably amazing
(but even more far fetched) it might be
is Slug were to catch wind of the other
half of Felt being in town and joining him
on stage for a reunion. Not to mention
the possibility of having two other Living
Legends in the building - The Grouch and
Eligh. I knew it was asking a lot and I
had no expectations but the "what if" was
definitely on my mind.
Well, it went down like this: I saw
Slug and said hi, asked him what are
the chances and he said no way but did
promise to at least show up and support.
When it was time to bring Murs on to
stage, I met him up at his hotel room and
he was with Slug and The Grouch in the
hallway. I walked them all backstage,
took some pics and grabbed the mic to
introduce Murs to a sold-out crowd. The
energy was high and the vibe was good!
Murs started off with a couple solo songs
and to my surprise, he brought Slug
out on stage for one song - Dirty Girl!!!
A Felt reunion come true!! If that wasn't
enough, when the song was over The
Grouch came out and did The Bay to LA!!
Seriously, I don't know if anything like
this has ever gone down in the History
of Underground Hip-Hop and if it did, it
was in front of 30,000 people at a festival
like Rock the Bells, not in the little town
of Lake Tahoe in Blu Nightclub! Another
Late-Nite gone down in History!
Friday, August 9th - Andre
Nickatina make his way back to South
Lake (Blu Nightclub) for the first time in
over three years. This time he is bringing
Bay Area Hip-Hop Legend - Rappin'
4-Tay! Born and raised in the Fillmore
District of San Francisco, Andre Nickatina
has been a Hip-Hop/Rap luminary since
the release of his critically acclaimed
debut, “The New Jim Jones.” Also, a
diverse artist, Nickatina has gained
critical acclaim for his work and vision
as a filmmaker, with more than seven
films to his credit as either a director, codirector, executive producer, producer or
actor. Without saying so, Nickatina has
had his finger on the pulse of what is raw,
uncut and capable of capturing the mind
and ears of listeners. Never one to follow
or ride trends, Andre Nickatina is a rare
breed of artist… one of the last original
trend setters. Nickatina does not do what
the people want… rather the people want
to know what Dre will do next.
Wednesday,
August
21st
Rebelution, Matisyahu, Collie Buddz
and Zion-I will take the stage in the
afternoon at the Montbleu Outdoor
Amphitheater and immediately following
we will host out monthly Full Moon
Celebration featuring iLL.Gates and Amp

band mates might join him from the main
stage!) plus special guests Beatkarma
and Wetdreamz. iLL.Gates will perform a
very special video set that will blow your
mind! Toronto-born San Francisco-based
producer, performer and educator ill.
Gates has had a long and lavish career in
music. DJing since his earliest teenaged
years, .Gates has established a global
fan base and enjoys an increasing
reputation as dynamic, definitive and
decisive EDM artist. ill.Gates is rising
steadily up the ranks through his many
collaborate releases with such industry
heavyweights as Datsik, Bassnectar, Ana
Sia, Opiuo, T.O.B., Vibesquad, Mimosa
and more.
Appropriately dubbed "The World
Highest Rapper" - Grammy nominated
Afroman blazes his way back to Tahoe
and Reno for two shows to perform his
hit song "Because I got High" (also the
#1 downloaded ringtone in the World)
and countless others. This is happening
Saturday, August 31st (all ages) at
Bodega Nightclub and on Sunday,
September 1st (21+) at Blu Nightclub /
Montbleu Resort.
Monday, September 9th - We bring
you the "War and Peace Tour" featuring
Immortal Technique and Brother Ali
together in one night at Cargo inside the
Whitney Peak Hotel in Downtown Reno.
Don't forget, if your friends are in
town for a Bachelor or Bachelorette Party
- look up www.LateNitePartyGirls.com,
we are your leader in Adult Entertainment
in Lake Tahoe!
That wraps it up for this month Tahoe
- we love you and appreciate every bit
of your continued support. Big thanks to

Backstage With PR
Everybody at the PR Entertainment
office is still buzzing from the Bass
Camp EDM Festival we produced last

to the Bass Campers that filled the
MontBleu Outdoor Arena, everybody
was so enthusiastic about the event,
and now we can’t wait for next year. We
plan on growing Bass Camp in Lake
Tahoe to a multiple day, multiple stage
event, and make Bass Camp a staple
in the basin year after year.
If you
missed this year, check out the amazing
images from our photographers in the
Photo Albums on our Official Bass
Camp Facebook fan page: www.

One of my favorite female
comedians, Whitney Cummings, is
headlining the MontBleu Theatre on
Friday, August 9. I’ve had the pleasure
of working with Whitney several times
while producing The Comedians of
Chelsea Lately shows. Whitney is
currently the star, writer, and creator
of NBC's ‘Whitney’ and as well as the
co-creator of CBS's ‘Two Broke Girls’
She recently appeared on the “Comedy
Central Roast of Joans Rivers,” appears
regularly on “Chelsea Lately" and wrote,
co-executive produced, and performed
stand-up on the comedy series "Live!
Nude! Comedy!" for Showtime. In 2007
she was named one of Variety's Top 10
Comics to watch and in 2009 she was
named one of Entertainment Weeklys
"Comedy Stars of Tomorrow." As an
actress she recently co-starred in the
Sony feature "Made of Honor" with
Patrick Dempsey, MTV's "Punk'd." She
has also performed on HBO's "Down
and Dirty" with Jim Norton," "Comics
Unleashed," NESN's "Comedy AllStars," TBS's "The Very Funny Show,
and E!'s "The Comedians of Chelsea
Lately." Tickets start at just $45.

Comedy From The Mountain
Have you ever just stopped and
just wondered how many musicians,
comedians, Nobel prize laureates,
politicians and people of interest come
up this place? You know what blows
my mind even more? That I’ve had the
great fortunate (well, a lot of hard work
too) having many of these folks on my
little radio show. I never considered
my a radio guy more a comic first who
just happened to get a radio show and
now has lasted through 6 GMs. I think
I find that more amazing than some
of the guests I’ve had over this past
decade. My philosophy doing radio is
simple: as long as it’s fun and I’m not
micro-managed I’ll stay. Trust me it’s
not worth the pay to have to deal with
the stress of wondering when I’ll get
suspended (again). I figure if I’m having
fun someone out there probably is
too. Radio might be a little constrictive
when it comes to your language and
stuff but that’s what the comedy stage
is fore at night. Consider the stand
up at night not quite FCC friendly
but balances out the more controlled
demeanor during the morning hours
Monday through Friday.
It doesn’t get much better than
having both Rocky LaPorte and Ron
Morey on the same bill during the
same week up here in Tahoe folks.
Both work very well together and
there’s kind of a cool chemistry when
all three of us work together. If you’ve
never been to a Rocky LaPorte show
you’re really missing out on a fun
experience. Every show is consistent
and loads of fun. Part of that comes
with his delivery and the clever and
insightful stories that he tells. His
professional demeanor is such that
he appeals to a wide demographics.
I can see why he gets booked for so
many corporate engagements. On the
big screen you may have seen Rocky
in the classic Disney remake, “The
Shaggy Dog” and Tim Allen’s movie,
“Crazy On the Outside” which costarred Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta
and Kelsey Grammer and was Allen’s
directorial debut. Earlier this year I
caught a re-broadcast of Showtime
‘s “The Godfathers of Comedy” (an
ensemble piece of 5 comedians
including Rock) on Showtime and his
one-hour special on Comedy Central
that gets replayed pretty regularly. Not
bad for a guy who started out as a
Chicago truck driver and dock worker.
On the small screen some of his credits
include being on “Cheers,” “The Pat
Sajack Show,” “Comic Strip Live” and
his own television sitcom pilot called,
“The Rocky Laporte Show” on CBS.
Two highlights stand out though: See
Rocky get a standing ovation on “The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and
when he received his GED from New
York City. Ron Morey is a nice balance
to Rocky what with his rapid-fire
delivery and very physical comedy.
Ron has opened for George Lopez,
Tracy Morgan, Ellen DeGeneres and
D. L. Hughley. And, like Rocky and
myself he too has performed overseas
working for the USO in places such as
Italy, Greece, Bahrain, Iraq, Bahrain,
Kuwait and Germany. On television
Ron has been on NFL Films, PBS,
A&E and even on Snoop Dogg’s MTV
show, “DoggyFizzle Televizzle.” That’s
right folks. Before Snoop was a lion he
was still a dogg and Snoop was looking
to cast a nerdy white guy for his video.
Boy did he hit pay dirt getting Morey!
Rocky and Ron together August 7th
through the 11th.
He’s on my morning radio show
every Thursday with his “Graham’s
Crackers” and we toured together in
Iraq and Kuwait: Graham Elwood.
In addition to his CDs, DVDs and
numerous appearances in movies
and documentaries Graham has
a very successful podcast festival
coming up on October. He and
fellow comedian Chris Mancini (also
appearing with Graham this week)
started the festival and also the very
entertaining ComedyFilmNerds.com.
Graham honed his comedy skills all
over the country (and later overseas)
starting out in Chicago doing clubs
and colleges that paved the way for
his unique style that would get him
into headlining stratus pretty quickly.
Graham’s been in several very funny
feature-length documentaries which
include Doug Benson’s “Super High
Me” and his own project, “Hello Junkie”
which received very nice reviews
when ir screened at the Sundance
Film Festival. On television you’ve
seen him on Comedy Central, USA
Network’s “Strip Poker,” “The Test” (on
the F/X Network_ and on “The Late
Late Show” on CBS. He’s a favorite
and we’re glad to have him up here
this week. Catch him August 14th
through the 18th.
And what’s this? Willie Barcena is
back? I can’t even remember the last
time he was up here I mean maybe 5
or 6 years ago? Barcena has always
been on the edge but well worth it
when you see his comedy. He speaks
from the heart and although he’s
anything but politically correct he’s
always truthful. Willie was one of the
first comics to tour with Jay Leno when
he took several comedians over to Iraq
to entertain the troops. Kat Simmons
is working with Willie which I’m really
looking forward to because this will be
Howie Nave
the classic “Sweet & Sour” combo of
the funny that we haven’t seen in quite
some time. Hope you can make it as
this whole month is pretty good. Catch
them both August 28th through Sept
1st.
Howie Nave is the host/emcee/
manager of The Improv @ Harveys
every Wednesday through Sunday
and also hosts his own morning show
(“Howie’s Morning Rush”) on KRLT
93-9 The Lake M-F 6-10am which
also streams online so you can log
on anywhere all over the planet and
catch Howie’s radio show. He also
writes a weekly comedy column for
Action Magazine. You can follow him
on Facebook at http://www.facebook.
com/howie.nave.
Fly Fishing
Hot, Hot and more Hot! With the heat
comes stressed fish and tougher fishing.
Try to fish early and late in the day for best
results and hopefully the temperatures will
drop for the month of August. The West
Carson has been the best bet close to
Tahoe and has a bunch of small LCT in
it and fun for first timers! Enjoy the fishing
this summer!

quite a bit and are not always in the same
places as the week before, look for them
in faster water where there tends to be
more oxygen. Tricos will be early this year
so look for them! Mid Day fishing has been
tough due to the high water temps, look
for fish in the shaded areas. While it is hot,
we suggest not fishing from 1 pm until 5
or 6 pm.
Above Hangman’s Bridge: Fishing
well from Hangman’s Bridge up to the
Highway 4 Bridge. Look for areas where
the stocking truck can get to and there
should be fish! Hatches have been good
with PMD’s, Caddis, Little Yellow Sallies,
Stones and Ants. Fish a Stimulator with a
dropper Nymph or pull a Bugger for best
results. The Resort areas as well as the
Campgrounds have been good. Look for
fish above the Highway Four Bridge as
well and if you want more of a wild trout
experience fish above Wolf Creek in the
Backcountry!
West Carson River Fishing Report
The Pocket Water sections in the
Canyon are fishing the best from about
Sorenson’s down stream to the Woodfords
area. The meadow has been good but
with the lower flows the fish tend to be
spooky. There is a lot of Little Cutthroat
in the system with a few bigger Rainbows
planted by Alpine County. PMD’s, Yellow
Sallies and Caddis as well as Beetles and
Ants on the surface. Subsurface: Copper
Johns, Flashback PT’s, Yellow Sally
Nymphs and Buggers. The Blue Lakes
road area can be a lot of fun for smaller
fish!
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report
Above the 267 Bridge: Flows are
in prime shape and the fishing is good.
Look for Yellow Sallies, Stones, Caddis,
PMD’s and Hoppers. The evening hatches
of Caddis have been wonderful until dark!
Streamers will take a fish or two as well
especially early or late in the day and the
Bigger the better!
Year round section (CA) below 267
Bridge: As the upper sections, the flows
are great for this time of the year and should
stay that way into August. Early Hoppers,
Golden Stones, PMDs, Yellow Sallies,
Caddis and Crawdad imitations. The dry
fly fishing has been great some days and
the Nymphing good. The Glenshire area,
below Prosser Creek and just above the
Boca inlet has been good. Surprisingly the
fishing in the Herschdale area has been
good as well even with the higher flows.
The word is the canyon section has been
great with Caddis into the evenings. Look
for fish in the heavy water that holds more
Oxygen…
Tahoe Area Stillwaters:
Indian Creek Reservoir: Fishing has
been doing well with Buggers, Calibaetis,
Victor Babbit
Damsels and Blood Midges. Look for the
evenings when the wind dies down for
some good action on the surface with
Blood Midges and Damsel Nymphs.
Buggers in Black, Olive and or Brown have
been working well. Float tubing gives you
the best opportunity and the shallow end
seems to fish the best this time of year.
Caples Lake: Things have been
getting better lately with quite a few fish
being taken around the Woods Creek
Area. Big ugly dries or pulling streamers
are your best bet. Renting a boat and
accessing the Emigrant Bay area is a
lot of fun and the fishing can be great
back there. The Dam area as well as the
Spillway area tend to fish well for all of the
stockers that have been put in lately and a
lot of them are huge!
Red Lake Fishing Report: Float
tube the upper end for best results. San
Juan Worms hung under an indicator with
a Copper John or Blood Midge Dropper
will work well. Trolling Buggers will take a
few as well. Try the Dam Area during the
evenings for fish rising to Para Adams if
you can keep them away from the Bats!
