Allman also played some guitar to go along with his keyboard and vocals that he’s known for. His health hasn’t been very good for the last 3 years, so it was great to see him sounding and doing good. His book of memories of life and music called, “My Cross to Bear” that came out in 2012, I will bet is a good read and will probably be a movie some day. Another fun show at Harrah’s was Foghat. With original drummer Roger Earl and his talented band, hearing the rock classic “Slow Ride” with Earl’s solo drumming is so cool, still to this day—from a song and band that made hits in the 70’s. This British band created a bluesy-rock style and they play around 75 shows a year. Coming March 2nd is G. Love and Special Sauce. Garrett Dutton mixes alternative rock with jazz, hiphop and blues for a soulful tasty blend with his band. G. Love’s flowing rhymes are really cool and the girls really get excited during his show. Harrah’s will open a new nightclub February 16th and it’s called PEEK. More than $1 million in entertainment plans and renovations to the existing space that was Vex nightclub. 40 intimate VIP sections, aerial shows and so much more. Paris Hilton and The Beatclan will host the grand opening of PEEK. Harrah’s Center Stage in their main casino with Arthur Hervey on Friday and Saturday nights always creates a party atmosphere with all styles of music. MontBleu has TABOO from The Black Eyed Peas February 8th. Jaime Gomez is an accomplished dancer, actor, author, shoe designer, philanthropist and a global DJ sensation. TABOO of The Black Eyed Peas has sold over 60 million records all over the world. This should be a big Tahoe party to enjoy. February 15th Iration Heatseekers Tour with The Green, Passafire and Pacific Dub, will create a reggae style party. This music always makes you feel good and everyone’s always in a good vibe during this style of music. Legendary jazz guitarist George Benson is February 17th. Benson is a 10-time Grammy Award winning musician that tours the worldwide globe all the time. He’s recorded with Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Chet Atkins, All Jarreau and Jill Scott to name a few. You’ll hear a mix of jazz, pop and R&B as this versatile guitar player and singer entertains you. Benson will be 70 in March and his classic hits are “On Broadway” and “Give Me the Night”. He’s considered one of the greatest guitarists in jazz history. Comedian JoKoy is February 23rd. STS9 is February 28th and The Expendables is March 6th. They will have a Pool Party February 17th that’s always popular. MontBleu just had their grand opening for Boogie Nights in Blu Nightclub. The ultimate 70’s and 80’s dance party will be every Saturday night from 8pm till close. The multi-colored lite-up dance floor is really cool. The retro environment with funky furniture, shag carpets, swanky VIP areas, the Love Shack and Swingers Lounge, the Disco ball and record covers on the walls, puts you in the era of good fun. Characters that will be there include Roller Girl, Mr. Boogie, Hula Hoop Girl, Go-Go dancers, celebrity impersonators like Madonna, Tina Turner, Joan Jett and Tahoe’s Cooley Jaxson as Michael Jackson. Jaxson taught Michael how to do the 'Moonwalk' and was in many music videos and TV’s “Solid Gold”. Jessica Broyles, owner of Champagne Productions, has choreographs these dancers and the Heavenly Angels for Heavenly Resort. Come dressed up if you want and check it out. The Beacon Bar and Grill will have their Snowshoe Cocktail races again on February 16th and March 16th. Give a try and win prizes and make people laugh as your trying to complete the course. There’s live music, drink specials, good food and more. Harveys has Cabo Wabo (Sammy Hagar’s place) with entertainment every night. Food and drink specials at this popular Tahoe hot spot makes for good fun. The Improv with new comics each week and host Howie Nave, is always a hit. Straw Hat Sports Bar and Grill has 25 big HD TV’s and food and drink specials. Horizon has Illusion Fusion starring Alex Ramon. Fun for the whole family. And remember, EntertainerTahoe.com is there 24 hours a day for you. Have fun, you’re in Tahoe!! Zephyr Cove Snowmobile - Lake View Tours Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center Tahoe’s Only Lake View Tours There is something very special about Lake Tahoe in the winter time that many visitors to Lake Tahoe never get to see or feel. The epic views of the lake and its surrounding peaks from the ridgeline, snow-laden trees as far as the eye can see, Mother Nature’s naturally formed snow sculptures in the woods, and experiencing the brown and green valley views looking east from the peaks and then looking back over one’s shoulder and seeing the blue water contrasting with the white mountains and the blue sky looking west. To experience all of this and more join the folks at the Zephyr Cove Resort Snowmobiling Center for a snowmobile tour to the Tahoe Ridgeline. Located right here on South Shore, Zephyr Cove’s base of operations is only 4 miles from the casinos and the Heavenly Village. As part of their service, the snowmobile center offers complimentary transportation from most local lodging properties. With over 40 miles of groomed trails starting at 7,200 feet and traveling as high as 9,000 feet, Zephyr Cove Snowmobiling caters to beginners and experienced riders. Tahoe visitors may ride single or double and children between the ages of 5 and 15 may ride along with an adult. The center provides helmets with visors to all guests and has a full array of winter clothing for rent. New this year, try a helmet cam and go home with a memory that will last a lifetime. Each group of 10-12 sleds has a lead guide and another bringing up the rear. All of the center’s snowmobiles have heated handgrips for both the driver and accompanying passenger. Safety training precedes every tour. Tours last approximately 2 hours winding their way through pines, aspens and to the Tahoe Ridgeline. Three-quarters of the way through, the guides will treat you to the best hot chocolate above 7,500 feet! Ask about the Kids Ride Free Thursdays special. Private tours and group rates are also available. For reservations and information please call 775-589-4908. Reservations are strongly suggested. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly I have two questions. Where has the Winter gone? and... Will it snow again?? I'm not trying to jinx anything, just wondering! Who knows what February has in store as far as the weather goes, but one thing I can tell you about for sure is... the shows LateNite Productions has coming up - and it's as exciting as always! Friday, February 8th Taboo from The Black Eyed Peas will be gracing the stage of the Montbleu Theater for Wild 102.9's Winter Function. I'm not sure "gracing the stage" is the right term. More like "setting it on fire with his explosive style"!! Taboo has taken his music all over the world and The Black Eyed Peas have sold an estimated 60 million records to date. Taboo's solo live performance is an interactive experience bringing his DJ talents to the forefront blending them with high energy dance, MC and crowd interaction. Taboo has been a driving force behind the unique style and energy of The Black Eyed Peas and brings that heart stopping performance to Lake Tahoe one night only! When asked about the live show, Taboo describes it as "an open format. I like to call it the 'Taboo Experience'. DJing is one part of it. There's also a performance element where I'm incorporating my own material, some of the songs that I've done on my own and with The Black Eyed Peas. I felt like I needed to incorporate something other than just DJing. "I have local b-boys or dancers perform with me, and we do a couple different dance sections as a visual. We also have really good visuals behind us, as far as the LED screens. We incorporate video content. You're getting the all-around experience." "The Black Eyed Peas: Taboo Experience" Saturday, February 16th we move the party over to Cal Neva Resort in North Lake with Andre Nickatina and Smoov-e. Now Andre Nickatina never ceases to amaze me. I bring him to town probably more than any other Artist, usually twice a year, every year, for the last decade and do his fans get tired? NO! The shows get bigger and bigger every year! Born and raised in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, Andre Nickatina has been a Hip-Hop/Rap luminary since the release of his critically acclaimed debut, “The New Jim Jones.” Nickatina’s classic stage show combined with his rare interviews, maintains his mystery and unique musicianship that has spanned two decades. Without saying so, Nickatina has had his finger on the pulse of what is raw, uncut and capable of capturing the mind and ears of listeners. Never one to follow or ride trends, Andre Nickatina is a rare breed of artist… one of the last original trend setters. Nickatina does not do what the people want… rather the people want to know what Dre will do next. Next up. A true Bay Area Legend, as legendary as they come. A pioneer to the Rap Game. TOO $HORT live in concert! This is happening on Friday, March 1st at Cal Neva Resort and allages are welcome. This was the biggest sold-out show of the year for Late-Nite Productions last year so don't sleep on this one, get your tickets NOW! Too $hort is a Platinum selling Artist, has appeared in several different movies and a Reality Show, owns his own record label "Up All Nite Records" and also works as a mentor at Youth UpRising in Oakland, CA, a group serving at-risk youths. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see such a Legend in the rap game up close and personal on March 1st at Cal Neva Resort! Sage Francis (Friday, March 22nd) and J-Boog (Tuesday, April 2nd) will be at Blu Nightclub inside Montbleu Resort so mark your calendars! Also, 7800' out at Kirkwood has been keeping the local musicians busy as always with Mark Castro Band (Feb 9), Weapon (Feb 16), Drinking With Clowns (Feb 23) and Swamp Zen playing two days in a row (Mar 2 at night and Mar 3 on the deck during the day). We alway have to give a big shout out to Sierra At Tahoe and Tahoe Blue Vodka for the continued support! Till next month Tahoe - Keep the Vibe Alive! ~LateNiteBilly Comedy From The Mountain Hello fans of comedy and the need for total escapism. I was going to encourage folks to turn off the boob tube and create your own entertainment but part of the ‘job’ of being a comedian is gathering all the news from the TV that is getting the most play and then refine it, pass it through the funny funnel so when it finds itself on the other end hopefully will sound both hilarious and informative and if it makes you think then that’s a bonus my friend. Continuing on that thread I’ve been joking that it’s just a matter of time before metal detectors are installed at comedy clubs across this country because sooner or later hecklers are going to take disrupting shows to the next level. All comics have had their fair share of having to deal with a-holes who didn’t get enough attention growing up and end up being useless humans who’s only redeeming contribution to this life is that of organ donor for other people more worthy. I wish, like background checks for guns some people would have to pass a mental competency test before entering a comedy club. Bottom line: if you’re easily offended stay home. Better yet don’t go to a comedy club because nobody paid to see you in the first place. Happy February! If you’re not familiar with Bret Ernst you’re not alone but he’s quickly becoming a known entity and headlines up here for the first time. He seems to be all over Showtime first on “Comics Without Borders” and then on the very popular series, “Weeds.” He was also part of the movie, “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show” (currently out on DVD). Bret was on the hit series, “CSY: NY” and is a regular on E! Entertainment’s “The Chelsea Lately Show,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” ABC’s “Comics Unleashed” and “The Late Late Show” on CBS. Frazer Smith is no stranger to Tahoe and has quite the background mainly in radio. Frazer Smith is one of Los Angeles’ best known radio personalities and pound-for-pound the best one-liner comic working in the country today. Fortunately for us he’s really funny and not some run-of-themill wanna-be comic like so many radio jocks are. I’ll never sound as polished as a Fraser Smith but we do share a lot in common considering many of our guests are comedians when it comes to radio. He has interviewed everyone from comics to athletes to big celebrities. Frazer has also performed with many of the acts he’s also interviewed . This is his second time back in over five years so it’s going to be a lovely week working with him. He had his own show on NBC. “Rock In America”which was a late night show that aired after “Saturday Night Live” during its heyday. Frazer also hosted the show that was “...ahead of it’s time.” Catch both Bret and Frazer February 6th through the 10th. One show I’m absolutely looking forward to is this one: Bob Zany and newbie-to-the-Lake Zan Aufderheide. Both are not only on my morning radio show every week (Zany every Tuesday with ‘The Zany Report’) and Aufderheide with ‘A Moment of Zan’ every Thursday) but the two have produced a show called, “Zan vs Zany” and already has been huge hit in Las Vegas. Zan is from the Midwest and Zany well, he’s on the road so much I don’t even know where he’s from any more. This being Zan’s first time up here she already feels like a local as witnessed from her replies to my Facebook postings and already knows she has to hydrate, get some warming clothing and knows the correct pronunciation of Nevada. Zany has a long and impressive history of being in the entertainment business. With credits that include being on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 17 years as part of the annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and Comedy Central spots Zany’s career on the small screen is still relevant, yes. On the big screen you might have seen him in the documentary, “I am Comic,” in “Joe Dirt” starring David Spade, opposite Linda Blair in “Up Your Alley,” playing a lawyer in Matt Damon’s “The Informant!” and his latest movie, “23 Minutes to Sunrise” directed by Jay Kanzler and starring Eric Roberts and Nia Peeples. In-between producing his solo shows and the ‘Zan vs. Zany show Bob has produced numerous comedy shows for other comics breaking in thenunknown acts such as Garry Shandling, Yakov Smirnoff, Robert Wuhl, Kevin Nealon and Nia Peeples to name but a few. He’s also done radio himself being hired by KLOS out of L.A. radio as a personality Saturday mornings. That was Bob’s introduction into radio and he soon branched out from there with “The Zany Report” heard on over 160 radio outlets across the country (including “Howie’s Morning Rush” on KRLT every Tuesday). Looking forward to this show Howie Nave a lot and you too can see it February 13th through the 17th. Howie Nave is the host/emcee/ manager of The Improv @ Harveys every Wednesday through Sunday. Fly Fishing Reprinted from February 2012 as Victor is out of the country! Please check with the shop for any updates. We are now offering Guided Ice Fishing Trips in the Carson pass area! We offer guided fly fishing year round on the Carson, Truckee and Walker Rivers. Caples, Red Lake, Spooner Lake, Indian Creek Reservoir and Boca Reservoir as well. East Walker River Fishing ReportCA section: The Miracle Mile is fishing well and as long as the temps are up and the snow is away, the fishing will continue to stay good! The Midges have ruled the roost as of late with Griffiths Gnats, Para Adams and Micro Midges are working well on the surface but changing day to day and the Biot Emerger, Pehle's pupa, UV Midge and the tiny Zebra Midge doing well below. When the fish are up (which is a lot lately) leave the nymph rigs in the box, the dry fly fishing has been way too much fun! A lot of these fish are feeding on midges just below the surface and following through looking like they are eating off of the surface so pay attention to the rise form and look for a bubble when they eat an adult. Small Baetis patterns are working but we're not seeing a lot of Baetis on the water as of yet. The fish have been rising as early as 8 am so get there early and give'em a go. Nevada has been a bit tougher due to ice but with the warmer temperatures of late, it should turn on again soon especially as the days lengthen. Nevada is a good way to beat the crowds and always worth checking out. Little Truckee River Fishing Report- As long as you can get up the road, the fishing should be worth the effort.Look for risers in the middle of the day but don't count on a ton of them. The fish are still up and they still have to eat! Baetis and Midges in small sizes under the surface as well as on top! The LT is still fishing well as long as the temperatures hold and the snow stays away. The crowds have subsided with the snow on the road! Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report- Closed above the 267 Bridge. The year round section below 267 is still fishing but tough. The water is cold and the fish are lethargic but still have to eat. Put it on their head and they will probably open their mouths but it will take an excellent angler to get a few fish! Try Baetis or Midges and possibly an Egg pattern or San Juan Worm. It is going to get tougher as we start getting more storms in the near future! The lower you go towards Nevada the better the opportunity will be. Truckee River (Nv) Fishing Report- Flows are great for this time of the year and actually a little on the high side! Look for the cloudy days for filled in Baetis hatches especially below Reno. Nymphing will be best but the dries have produced a few fish as well. Nymphs: Stoneflies 8-12, Mayfly patterns 16-20, Flashback PT's 16-20. Dry Flies: Parachute Adams 14-18 and Blue Duns 18-20. Streamer action is picking up and is your best shot at one the Nevada Toads!, Streamers-Buggers in olive, white and black, Wool-Head Sculpin, Crystal Buggers, Meat Whistle olive and black, and of course the Crawdad!!! Great flows for floating! Tahoe Area Still Waters: Pyramid Lake - Things are starting to change lately and the fishing should start to get back to normal for this time of year as Victor Babbit we get storms coming in. Without the wind, fish early and late in the day but when it starts to blow get out there and fish all day! Buggers, Buggers and more Buggers for the time being. Indian Creek Reservoir - Looks like the fishing will be done for a bit or until it thaws anyway! When it does there will be plenty of fish and they should be on the Blood Midges. With the last storm the lake froze again and it could be a bit before it opens up. Caples Lake Report - Caples is fishing quite well and the ice is safe. With the recent snow you can get on the ice with out the worry of slipping. The Spillway areas as well as the Main Dam area are both doing well. Try to fish the areas that are about 10-15 feet deep and try all levels from the bottom to just below the ice. Power Bait, Worms, Salmon Eggs and Bay Shrimp will work or try jigging a Kastmaster. If you are not getting fish, move to a new area or look for others catching fish and get to the same area. On occasion you can find holes that are already drilled and all they need is to be broken open with a tire iron and then use a strainer to clean out the ice if you do not own an auger. Guided Ice Fishing trips through March! Call 530-541-8208 Entertainment & Events One of the biggest shows we are producing so far is 2013 is Tiësto on campus at UNR. Walking inside the newly transformed club was like stepping directly into a time warp back to the 70s and 80s, compete with shag carpet, retro furniture, vinyl albums, vintage posters, and a state-of-the-art light-up dance floor. Everyone got in the spirit and dressed the part, which only added to the amazing energy of the party. The light-up dance floor was a huge hit and was completely packed for most of the night with everyone dancing along to favorites such as the “Y.M.C.A.” and learning how to do “The Hustle”. Dave Davis, Director of Entertainment for MontBleu Resort, was thrilled with the success, and said, “I’m so excited to see such a great energy from the crowd. Everyone was having an amazing time dancing and singing along, the performers were fantastic, and every song was upbeat and fun. We’re really looking forward to having this Boogie Nights experience every Saturday at Blu Nightclub!” People traveled from far and wide to come to the opening night including a group up from San Francisco to celebrate a friend’s birthday. When asked why they chose to come to Boogie Nights, one party-goer Liz Kroft said, “How can you go to a 70s/80s party and not have fun!? It was a no brainer that it’d be a good time.” And a good time it certainly was! With doors opening at 8pm, crowds came early and danced until the wee hours of the morning, way past the original intended closing time. With a fun mix of young and young-atheart, the night was a crowd pleaser for all ages. Host Dreu Murin helped keep the party pumping all night, pulling people up on stage to celebrate birthdays, introducing performers, and interacting with the crowd. His leopard platform shoes complete with goldfish in the heels were quite the fashion statement and were a huge hit with the crowd. Celebrity impersonators including Joan Jett, Madonna, Tina Turner, and Michael Jackson rocked the crowd with performances throughout the night. Once former “Solid Gold” dancer and MontBleu’s own Cooley Jaxson took the stage as the late great Michael Jackson, the crowd was mesmerized by his incredible dance moves with everyone whipping out cell phones to tape the performance. Hula Hoop Girl owned the night with her light-up hula hoop and Roller Girl was quite impressive on her skates as she danced throughout the crowd.
