Ross Orlando's Tahoe Spotlight
The Raiders are coming, the Raiders
are coming! Classic American rock, Paul
Revere & The Raiders will perform
at Harrah’s May 28. In full costumes,
they will play their hits from the mid 60’s
to early 70’s that always pleases the
audience. You’ll hear, “Kicks”, “ Louie
Louie”, “Let Me”, “Just Like Me”, “Good
Thing”, “Indian Reservation”, (The
Lament of the Cherokee Reservation
Indian) and so much more. Paul mixes
humor in this high-energy show as he
plays keyboards behind the front end of
an old car and backup vocals. His toy
monkey that plays the cymbals is so
funny, as he tries to shoot him to stop
playing. I met Paul around 10 years ago
at Harrah’s and he told me how he loves
playing his classic songs and having
fun doing it with some humor. These
guys should be in The Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame, with the magical chemistry of
rock and fun that they give out.
Sammy Hagar and the Wabos
May 6-7 is already sold out, Hagar
knows how to create a party at all
times. Eric Burdon & the Animals May
14 will bring all their classic rock hits
from the 60’s. Eric’s voice is still top
notch and it is a great show. Another
favorite for Tahoe is Pablo Cruise May
21 also at Harrah’s. I love these guys
and their sound, 70’s and early 80’s
music including, “A Place in the Sun”,
“Whatcha Gonna Do?”, “Worlds Away”,
“Love Will Find a Way”, “I Want You
Tonight”, and many more. I first met
drummer, Steve Price, in 1977 at a show
outside at Kirkwood with my brother
Steve, while he was touring with Edgar
Winter. It was my first celebrity photo
shoot in Tahoe. Now l have hundreds –
wow – time flies. They sold out quicker
than Elvis when they played Sahara
Tahoe, now The Horizon. Those were
some fun backstage times! Their music
really makes you feel good.
Harrah’s Showroom turns into Vex
Nightclub on Friday and Saturday night
with cool DJ Music, Go-Go Dancers,
Arial Shows and Sexy Adult Dancers, it
makes for good times.
MontBleu had comedian Sarah
Silverman. With her pretty looks and
young girl voice, she can be outrageous,
x-rated, sassy and down to earth, all
in one. I loved seeing her, she is so
unique. From her concert film, “Jesus Is
Magic”, TV shows, movie appearances,
her Comedy Central TV show, New
York Times Best Selling Book, “The
Bedwetter”, her showbiz future is still
rising. Coming to MontBleu May 27
is worldwide music House and Trance
DJ, Record Producer, Paul Oakenfold.
This will be a party! With his special
effects and screen behind him with
trippie images, is an added bonus.
Paul has done remixes for all the big
stars including U2, Madonna, The
Rolling Stones, and the list goes on.
Movie soundtracks, huge festivals,
collaborations with all the greats out
there. I met Oakenfold with promoter
Paul Reder backstage and he poured
champagne for all of us and toasted
coming to Lake Tahoe. Seth Meyers
May 28 from “Saturday Night Live”, will
bring laughs to town. Opal and Blu
Nightclub has a mix of DJ’s, live music,
sexy Go-Go Dancers, Body Painting
and great drink specials for you to enjoy.
The Improv at Harveys with host
Howie Nave from KRLT-93.9 Morning
Rush, has new comics each week. A
Tahoe favorite, and mine as well, is
one of Americas top political satirist,
Will Durst, May 11-15. He performed
for events with President Bill Clinton
and George HW Bush, the Governors
Conference, hundreds of TV shows, 14
countries, won and was nominated for
many awards and the top major colleges
want him all the time. This modern day
Will Rogers has columns, radio spots,
a cool book, “The All American Spirit of
Bipartisan Bashing”, and a CD “Raging
Moderate”. Get informed and laugh at
the same time with Durst. He likes to
call me ‘The Mayor of Tahoe”, because
when we hang out around town, Will
says so many people will come up to
me and say hi. Go to WillDurst.com for
more.
Check out the photos of the
Business Expo that was at MontBleu.
Whiskey Dicks showcases a mix of
music styles. They had a Tahoe favorite,
Hemlock. They have opened for Slayer,
Lamb of God, and played Tahoe for 15
years. High-energy hard rock metal
style. A fundraiser at MontBleu for
Burning Man’s Art Car of the Year
“Christina”, owned by Tahoe’s Flipper
Manchester, had cool DJ music mixed
with the crowds wild outfits like at
Burning Man’s Black Rock City. The
yacht will get some upgrades for this
year’s event. Catch a beautiful view and
good food and drinks at Blue Water
Bistro. Mott Canyon Tavern & Grill on
lower Kingsbury has a full menu served
till 3am including pizza, video poker,
happy hours, 2 for 1 drinks 10pm – 4am
and a cool bar staff. Lanza’s Italian
Food & Spirits next to Sushi Pier has
an excellent happy hour with half off
drinks, appetizers, small pizza and an
Italian banger. Great food and great
prices.
The largest cycling event in North
America the 2011 Amgen Tour of
California comes through Tahoe May
15 & 16. Enjoy and get out of their way!
And remember, the Cinco de Mayo
parties will be at; Cabo Wabo, Chevys,

Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly
WOW! What an epic way to end an
epic Winter!! Back to back to back slam
dunk shows! First Andre Nickatina at
Cal Neva, sold out show and amazing
performance! It was good to kick it with
my buddy Smoov-e again too! Next, I
went out on a mini-tour with Afroman
doing five events in four towns in
four days! All were near capacity and
it was truely a pleasure working with
the worlds highest rapper once again!
Ironicly my last day on the road with
him I came home to celebrate SEVEN
years of sobriety. Some may think its
wierd that I bring up such a thing in a
public forum but if you know me, its
something I am certainly not shy about.
I prefer to mention it any oportunity I
get with the hopes that my message
might reach yet another person that
needs to hear it. I know I have inspired
many in the past and I hope I can
help many more! As much as music
and entertaining is my life, so is being
clean and sober as that is the ONLY
reason I am afforded the awesome
opportunities that I have today.
Now, granted we are heading into
the slow season but if you look at the
schedule, there is no slowing down over
here! Cinco de Mayo we will be over
at Mo's Place with the LateNiteLadies
getting the party started! DJ Bird and
Keenan will be rockin all night long
playing Hip-Hop, Electro, Reggaton
and Mash-ups. We will host a $100
sexy senorita contest and will be giving
away a brand new K2 snowboard to
get you ready for next season! And of
course, the Patron and Margaritas will
be flowing....... Can you say "cruda?"
That's Spanish for "hangover."
Next we head over to Reno for a
couple of shows, Pato Banton and the
Now Generation Band will perform on
May 11th and Eminems Supergroup
from Detroit, D12 will perform on
May 15th. Both shows are at The
Underground on East 4th Street. The
first thing I hear when I mention D12....
"Is Eminem going to be there??" haha
Well, lets put it this way, if he was,
and we were to advertise it, do you
really think it would be in a 300 person
club? But, I guess we go also have to
consider the facts, right?! Eminem IS
a member of D12. Eminem has been
know to to make surprise appearances
and most recently did on March 25th
to a crowd of 1300 people in Royal
Oak, MI! Is it likely, probably not. But
is it possible, yes! Either way, Detroit's
finest will be in the house and this will
be a show not to miss!
Now, we know every year my Bus
comes to town and we celebrate my
Birthday with my "co-workers" aka the
GIRLS gone WILD Crew! This year is
no different! I will host a $200 wet t-shirt
contest and the world most famous
Tour Bus will be on location with the
film crew on hand ready to catch it all
and send it to DVD or the new reality
show on HDNET TV "Search for the
Hottest Girl in America". I have rounded
up Northern Nevada's finest Ladies for
hottest, naughtyest and sexyest party
to hit the Lake all year! This is at Mo's
Place on Tuesday, May 17th. Be there!
The Cal Neva in Crystal Bay
is becoming quite the hotspot for
shows these days! The Frank Sinatra
Showroom has already been home
to Mickey Avalon, Lyrics Born, Living
Legends, Mistah Fab, Andre Nickatina
and Afroman just this Winter alone!
Next up, the Bay Areas finest, Zion-I
will perform an all-ages show on Friday
Night of Memorial Day Weekend, May
27th. This trio of genre-bender pride
has made a name for itself on the Bay
Area scene by successfully mixing
spiritualism and hip-hop. Oakland's
MC Zion and DJ/producer Amp Live
blend hip-hop and trip-hop beats with
lyrics focused on a message of unity,
hope, and spiritual awareness.
Summer is right around the
corner and I can promise you I am
ready! To bring in the season we have
just confirmed an amazing event at
Round Hill Pines Beach in Roundhill,
NV. The Summer Solstice Reggae
Beach Party with Mystic Roots plus
Jon Wayne & the Pain and much
more! This will happen on Tuesday,
June 21st, Summer Solstice itself and
all ages are welcome.
Further into Summer we have
confirmed Ky-mani Marley (Bob's
youngest son) and we have also
confirmed Melvin Seals & JGB for
the "unophishal" Phish afterparties
at Mo's Place on Aug. 9th and
10th. Don't forget to check out www.
LateNiteProductions.com for more info
on everything mentioned and more!
Thank you Tahoe and Keep the
Vibe Alive! ~LateNiteBilly
Howie Nave
COMEDY FROM THE MOUNTAIN
It’s foregone conclusion that the folks
who are closing Highway 50 this month
could have waited another week so the
AMGEN Tour would bring us as many
tourists as possible but nooooooooooo
(to paraphrase the late John Belushi). I
mean c’mon, Caltrans closes 50 May 11
and the AMGEN Tour starts a few days
later? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or
an economist to figure out the potential
lost revenue from closing it when the
tour is so close? I could’ve justified the
closure had it happened last month and
we didn’t get the kind of snow we had
but here with a window of just a few days
Caltrans could wait just a week and then
start their construction. This state is so
broke ANY opportunity to bring money to
our area should be up front and center.
I’m not even a politician but you would
think one out there would garner a ton of
brownie points and potential Tahoe voters
had he/she spoken up delaying this for
only a week. I’m just a comic so I’ll just
observe and report and embarrass those
who are paid and supposed to look out for
our best interest.
On the lighter side we have a first
timer to the Lake who just made it through
50 before closed: Kyle Cease. He’s
probably one of the most in-demand
young comics touring today and will make
his debut up here at the Lake. Kyle sold
out over 200 shows last year and will
easily beat that record this year. Kyle has
so many awards I don’t have the space to
list them but when you consider he started
his comedy career in his teens it was just
inevitable. By the age of 21 he had toured
nationally and won the International
Giggles Comedy Competition, placed
in the finals of the prestigious Seattle
International Comedy Competition, and
completed his first major movie role. Not
bad. Kyle has a great outlook on life and
it shows in his stand up. I just hope he
can squeeze us into his schedule for
next year as he’s completely booked the
rest of this year! Appearing with Kyle is
Frazer Smith. I call him “Mr. FM Radio
Voice “ because he’s got that classic
(just like the rock he used to play), well
–toned voice that has served him well
for years in southern California. Frazer
Smith is one of Los Angeles’ best known
radio personalities and pound-for-pound
the best one-liner comic working in the
country today. Fortunately for us he’s
really funny and not some run-of-the-mill
wanna-be comic like so many radio jocks
are. Catch both of them the first week of
this month.
When it comes to double hitter
political bill man you couldn’t have picked
one better than the paring of Will Durst
and Tom Simmons. Durst is a Midwest
kind of guy having grown up in Wisconsin.
Mut be something in the corn because he
is simply brilliant when it comes to the
current political scene. The New York
Times said of Durst that he is“quite possibly
the best political satirist working in the
country today.” The Los Angeles Times
called him, “A modern day Will Rogers,”
The San Francisco Examiner stated that
he’s “the heir apparent to Mort Sahl and
Dick Gregory” while The Chicago Tribune
hailed Durst as a “hysterical hybrid of
Hunter Thompson and Charles Osgood.”
A bi-partisan smartass at heart it was
Durst who ran for mayor of San Francisco
a while back and actually did pretty well
who outspent him ten to one and he still
got more attention in the press. Here’s
a guy who in 1998 scored a political hat
trick by opening for Vice President Gore
and performing at both the Governors
Conference in Milwaukee and the Mayors
Convention in Reno. Durst was the only
comic invited to perform at Harvard’s
Kennedy School of Government and as
mentioned earlier has been in demand
to perform at political events including
the Washington D.C. Press Corp. and as
a correspondent for several cable news
including Comedy Central. Durst also
writes a daily Internet column and various
op-ed pages for such well respected
dailies as The New York Times and The
San Francisco Chronicle. I like his spots
for public transportation in the bay area.
Durst has been ‘green’ even before the
earth was warming up! His bi-weekly
commentaries can be heard on public
radio’s “Marketplace” and he is a five time
Emmy nominee and host/co-producer of
the award winning ongoing PBS series
“Livelihood.” His work in comedy clubs
across the country has been recognized
with appearances on every show featuring
a brick wall, including Letterman, HBO and
Showtime, also garnering 7 nominations
for the American Comedy Awards Stand
Up of the Year. Internationally, Durst
was the first American nominated for
the prestigious Perrier Award at the
Edinburgh Theater Festival for his one
man show “You Can’t Make Stuff Up Like
This.”Simmons was the winner of the
34th Annual San Francisco International
Stand-Up Comedy Competition and was
a finalist at the 2007 Boston Comedy
Festival and then went on to wreaked
havoc in both the Seattle Comedy Festival
and Montreal's Just for Laughs Comedy
Festival and now caps it all with his win
here in northern California/Nevada. The
cool part is that Tom is also a big fan and
appreciator of Nick Griffin so that just
makes this week even sweeter. Great
week May 11th through the 15th.
She’s ballsy, brash, to the point and
also one of my favs: Judy Gold. The
Emmy Award winning comedienne had
a nice successful run Off Broadway with
her hit show, 25 Questions for a Jewish
Mother. The show was nominated for a
2006 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding
Solo Performance and won the 2007
GLAAD award for “Outstanding New York
Theater.” The New York Times called this
one-woman show “fiercely funny, honest
and moving” and Time Out declared the
show a “genuine mitzvah.” Wow. So that’s
why she hasn’t been here in a while. Judy
(along with Kate Moira Ryan) wrote this
humorous & poignant portrait of what
makes a Jewish mother. The show
was based on interviews completed with
over 50 Jewish women of different ages,
ethnicities, occupations and tells each
woman’s individual story of marriage,
motherhood, faith, hope, love, laughter
and acceptance. The show went from Off
Broadway to the road in 2007 and there
was even a book based on the show
(Which I bought after her performance
in San Francisco). In that same year the
show won the prestigious Quill Award.
Co-written with Kate Moira Ryan the
book, 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother
Judy Gold has accomplished quite a
bit both on stage and on the written
page. When not busy with her stage work
Judy still finds time to make television
appearances as well such as co-hosting
ABC’s The View and also HBO’s At the
Multiplex with Judy Gold. She also hosted
the GLAAD Media Awards (which aired on
LOGO and VH1). There’s more? Oh yeah.
Some of her most recent TV specials
include a half-hour comedy special for
LOGO and the HBO documentary, All
Aboard. Her stand-up specials include
Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold,
Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd Stands
Up, and Judy’s HBO half-hour special,
which received a Cable Ace Award. Gold
was most recently seen in the smash
hit film The Aristocrats. Gold won two
Emmy Awards for writing and producing
The Rosie O’Donnell Show. She was
nominated twice for The American
Comedy Award’s funniest female standup and has appeared on Law & Order,
Law & Order SVU, The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno and The Conan O'Brien Show to
name a few. She performing with Ronnie
Schell who is one of those classic comics
from the early days of television and
in fact appeared in a few of the classic
ones back in the 60s. Some of the those
shows included “Gomer Pyle, USMC” but
you may have also seen him on “The Jim
Nabor’s Variety Hour” and he co-starred
with Goldie Hawn for two seasons on the
CBS series, “Good Morning, World.” I
remember his character as Marlo Thomas’
agent, Harvey Peck on ABC’s “That Girl.”
A classic week with Ronnie and Judy May
18th through the 22nd.
Howie Nave is the host/emcee/
manager of The Improv @ Harveys every

Fly Fishing
Here it is opening weekend or
something like that anyway. the
water is high and it looks like it is
going to be another late start for the
rivers that opened at the beginning
of this month. If we didn't have
the Tailwaters and the Stillwaters
to fish we would hardly see a fish
until later in June! That is the price
we pay after having such a great
ski season with upwards of a 160
percent of snow pack. Like I said,
the Tailwaters and Stillwaters will
save the day for those that can't
wait until summer and I'd say don't
wait!
Indian Creek Reservoir has
been awesome for the last couple of
months and should continue to fish
well going into the summer. There
are a lot of 4-8 pound fish in the lake
that will take you into the backing as
well as some smaller fish. Buggers
and Blood Midges have been the
best and the Calibaetis as well as
the Damsels will start soon! Float
tubes are best for access but the
shore anglers have been getting a
few fish as well. The South End of
the lake is my favorite and back in
the launch ramp area as well.
The East Walker is still fishing
well and until they bring the flows up
to over 600 CFS it should continue
to fish well. The Caddis are starting
and a few Stones have been seen,
the Baetis will be there for awhile
too. As the flows start to increase
you will need to change up your
techniques and the streamer will
start to be your best bet. Nevada
never really seemed to turn on this
Winter but there were a few days
that it fished well so don't give up on
it. Watch for the foam eddies along
the edges and fish rising in them!
Another option would be
the Little Truckee River between
Stampede Reservoir and Boca
Reservoir. The fish eat Baetis this
time of the year as well as a few
Stones, Worms and Micro Caddis!
Don't try the Egg imitation, the fish
hate it! Do stay off of the Redd and
away from spawning fish; give them
a break so they can make more
fish! It might be crowded so plan to
rotate out of holes so everyone gets
a chance!
Pyramid Lake is the other option
for those that like big fish, a lot of
casting and ducking though so be
ready with full sinking lines and
Buggers for best results. Indicator
Nymphing is another method that
has taken on the past few years
fishing with Blood Midge Nymphs,
Copper Johns and Chironomids
in multiple colors.
Hang them
anywhere from 6 feet deep to 12 or
13 feet deep for best results! Float
tubing can be fun but be cautious
when it comes to the winds. The
Nets are open again and they have
been fishing well!
Don't be scared away by the
High water, there is always a great
place to fish within a few hours drive
of the South Shore of Tahoe! These
are just a few of the better options
and to hear about any others or
Victor Babbit
to get tips on how to fish these
waters, stop by the shop and we will
do our best to get you set up with
whatever you might need for a fun
and enjoyable day of fishing.
All Spring we will be offering
our Introduction to Fly Fishing for
those that have not tried the sport,
classes are scheduled any day the
weather is nice and the sun is
shining. Come on down! 2705 Lake
Tahoe Blvd. about 3.5 miles form

down - SOJA is on their world tour now
for 2011/2012 “Everything Changes”,
in support of their upcoming album
release. It’s all about the message in
the music for this band. “People think
we write music about the earth for the
earth’s sake, but its not really like that.
If we harm the earth, it will reject us.
For all we know, it's happened one
hundred times before. This place gets
too hot, that’s it. Reset button. That’s
why I sing what I sing - to pull us all in
the same direction, the same future.
Without that, were finished (Jacob
Hemphill).”
Paul Oakenfold has been touted
as one of the world’s leading DJ/
remixers by various outlets including
CNN, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and
more.. He commands audiences of
well over 4,000 people each weekend
at The Palms in Las Vegas as their
resident DJ, and was on tour with
Madonna all last year playing for over
20,000 people per show. He will be
live at MontBleu on Friday, May 27,
Memorial Weekend as part of worldwide fundraising efforts to save the
rainforest. The Amazon Foundation
(501c3) produces events around
the globe to save earth's precious
resource, the rain forest. The Amazon
Foundation was established in 2009 to
acquire and to preserve large tracts of
the Amazon rainforest in their natural
state in order to maintain its ecological
function, biodiversity, and climatologic
function and to protect the region's
long-term ecological viability and
to create global awareness for the
cause via marketing campaigns and
charitable events. Our #1 goal is to
purchase pristine rain forest acreage
and to leave this in its natural state
for posterity.
DJ Paul Oakenfold
has graciously donated his time
and resources to star in three world
events. The first was in Los Angeles
which sold out the famous Avalon
Club/Theatre, then this Lake Tahoe
event on May 27, followed by our
Rio event in South America on top of
Sugar Loaf Mountain later this year.
One of the world’s most popular
Hip-Hop artists, Wiz Khalifa will
