His Four Decades of Rock, was exciting for the fans in the audience and Sammy himself. Sammy and the Wabo’s went on stage first and played many of his classics. “I Can’t Drive 55” and “There’s Only One Way to Rock” and many others. Then form his Montrose days, (197375) Denny Carmassi and Bill Church played with him. Sammy wrote “Bad Motor Scooter”, and “Rock Candy” is a powerful rock song that still sounds cool today. Joe Satriani was doing the songs of Montrose on lead guitar. Ronnie Montrose passed away this year. Satriani was really rippin’ it up on lead guitar. Then Sammy’s Van Halen music with bassist and back up vocals Michael Anthony joins the party. Vic Johnson from the Wabo’s was on lead guitar. Sammy is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Van Halen member. It sounded so good and fun for all. Hagar then brought out on stage, David Coverdale from Whitesnake. He lives in our Tahoe area and I photo shot him at the Kiss show that we put in the Entertainer a few years back. David also recorded and toured with Jimmy Page in 1993 as Coverdale-Page. David sang a Led Zeppelin tune with Sammy and the band and it was hot. Then it was time for Chickenfoot music that really rocked with Anthony, Satriani and Carmassi. This American rock star said this was one of the greatest nights of his life and thanked everyone. His book, RedMy Uncensored Life in Rock, went to #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. He also has a new product out called, Sammy’s Beach Run to go along with his Cabo Wabo Tequila. He turns 65 October 13th and Sammy is still one of the best front men in rock and roll today. Check out the new remodel at his Cabo Wabo inside Harveys. He threw out his guitar pick that landed right at me as I was photoshooting him. That’s the photo in my column. He loves Tahoe! Harrah’s had The B-52’s in their showroom and what a dance party it was. They call themselves a tacky little dance band from Athens Georgia. From appearing on “Saturday Night Live” in 1980 to Tahoe in 2012, this band creates fun on stage with songs like, “Love Shack”, a fun sing-a-long with the audience, “Rock Lobster”, “Dance This Mess Around” and many others with their own signature sound. The self-proclaimed,”World’s Greatest Party Band”, with Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Keith Strickland and talented musicians, created a good time for everyone. Upcoming shows in the South Shore Room are, Super Diamond October 6th, Dave Mason October 13th, Air Supply October 20th, Leon Russell October 27th, The Dan Band November 10th, Average White Band November 17th, Beatles vs Stones November 23-24 and Toad the Wet Sprocket December 1st.Their showroom turns into Vex Nightclub on Friday and Saturday, with sexy go-go dancers, amazing aerial shows and cool DJ music. Center Stage at Harrah’s has Arthur Hervey Friday and Saturday nights, known as “Arty the Party”. The 34th Annual Freakers Ball is Saturday, October 27th at MontBleu. It’s four parties with the Convention Center, Blu Nightclub, Opal Ultra Lounge and new this year, The Haunted Zone and Party Pit. Get your tickets, because this event will sell out. Vex Nightclub also has a great Halloween party. Cabo Wabo and Whiskey Dick’s will also have parties. It’s a lot of fun to see everyone’s creative outfits and the girls get really sexy at these parties. I will photo shoot hundreds of pictures for Tahoe to enjoy. Tony Drew, the publisher and I will put together the Halloween pictorial issue for November. The costumes are creative, unique, unreal, topical, sexy and will be fun to check out in our famous Halloween Issue. MontBleu has their OctoberFest Party October 6th in their Convention Center. The Mountain Film Festival is October 20th and the Teton Gravity Research - Further is Ooctober 26th. Opal Nightclub has dollar drinks on Thursdays and sexy go-go dancers and body painting with cool DJ music. The Improv at Harveys has new comics each week with host Howie Nave. Illusion Fusion at Horizon’s Cabaret with magician Alex Ramon, is fun for the whole family. He has toured around the world and we are lucky to have Alex and his fantastic show in Tahoe. McP’s Pub Tahoe has free live music every night. Have some food and drinks and enjoy a Tahoe favorite hot spot. The Hard Rock has free live music on Thursday nights with drink specials. Camp Richardson’s 18th Annual Oktoberfest is October 6-7. Fun for the whole family. The Himmel Haus had their Oktoberfest Party that was fun. Check out this new place for German food and beers and a huge football screen on Sundays. And remember, Entertainertahoe.com is always there for you. Have fun, You’re in Tahoe! South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival - Oct 5 - 7 South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival Set for Harrah’s and Harveys, Oct. 5 – 7 “Chopped” champion Michael Gowland, celebrity chef Nathan Lyon, Chef Mark Estee of Campo highlight third annual event The third annual “South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival” arrives at Harrah's and Harveys Lake Tahoe, Oct. 5 – 7, for an early autumn weekend of great food, fine wine and high spirits. Events include lots of dining and tasting experiences, plus discussions, presentations and demonstrations by celebrated food and wine experts. Of course, food and wine are the biggest stars and a spectacular “Epicurean Expo” – featuring sumptuous dishes from Harrah's best restaurants, top-shelf spirits and the finest wines of Napa Valley and beyond – highlights the weekend. The South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival kicks into high gear on Friday night, Oct. 5, at Harveys Lake View Lounge with “Around the World with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay,” hosted by master sommelier Jay James. Then the big dinner that night at Harveys is a Louisiana-style “Down on the Bayou Dinner” presented by Harrah’s New Orleans Executive Chef Jared Tees and the Food Network’s latest “Chopped” champion, Chef Mike Gowland. This Southern-style feast will feature a local flair, serving-up crawdaddies straight from the clear mountain waters of Lake Tahoe. If sophisticated fine dining is more to your taste, then the President’s Dinner is for you on Friday night at Harveys 19 Kitchen & Bar. Harrah’s Northern Nevada president John Koster hosts, and Chef Mark Estee of Campo and Caymus Vineyards founder Chuck Wagner are planning a sumptuous, multi-course dinner paired with exceptional wines from Caymus. On Oct. 6, Saturday's events get underway with "Beyond the Fork Epicurean Expo: An Affair for the Senses" at Harrah's Special Events Center. Stroll through the Epicurean Expo and enjoy ongoing, interactive entertainment and the multifarious tastes of Harrah's best restaurants from around the country, plus local favorites, top-shelf spirits and the best wineries in Napa Valley and beyond. There's plenty of entertainment and exhibitions too, featuring close-up cooking demonstrations by Chef Estee and Chef Nathan Lyon, author and co-host of the popular PBS series, “Growing a Greener World.” Chef Lyon will also be signing copies of his book, “Great Food Starts Fresh,” which has been hailed by Alice Waters and Graham Kerr. The Epicurean Expo promises to be a fun-filled afternoon of high spirits and culinary delights. Additional events on Saturday evening include a “Sushi, Sashimi and Sake Tasting” at Harrah’s Gi Fu Loh restaurant, followed by a “Whiskies of the World Tasting” at Harrah’s 16th floor Cliché Lounge. Top off the evening across the way at Harrah’s Summit for some “Decadent Desserts & Drinks.” On Sunday, Oct. 7, a cool jazz trio fills the room with music as the Champagne Jazz Brunch at Harveys 19 Kitchen • Bar features a tantalizing variety of delectable dishes, prepared by 19 Kitchen & Bar Chef Gerardo Evangelista and his culinary team and hosted by Chef Nathan Lyon. The bountiful buffet features a mouth-watering array of all the favorite Sunday brunch items, plus an elaborate seafood display of iced King Crab, jumbo prawns and ocean-fresh oysters. It’s a great way to cap the weekend – all with an extraordinary, panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada. Mark you calendar and be part of the fun at the third annual South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival, Oct. 5 – 7, at Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe. Less crowds, beautiful scenery and lots of bugs… for more information on any of these waters or to book a guide, give us a call at 530541-8208 and we can help you enjoy a wonderful Central Sierra day in the Greater Tahoe Area! East Carson River – Currently flowing at 30+ CFS. Above Hangman’s Bridge - This section is fishing great. Small nymphs to imitate tricos and baetis with the occasional attractor nymph are the best bets. The catch and release section below Hangman’s Bridge - If you fish try not to walk in where you want to fish as the silt clouds up your hole and even the holes below you if there is any back eddy to it at all. There is a great trico hatch but the fish are waiting for the water and their gills to clear before focusing on it. Also, streamers are working a little, too. West Carson River – Currently at 13+ CFS and stable. The West Carson River is tough but fishable. Stealth is the key with fish hiding during the midday hours. The river has been stocked, fish are being caught Nymphing: S J worms, Stoneflies and Copper Johns and on Streamers: White, Black Buggers, White Muddy Buddies. Fish the sections around the bridges which are where the fish will be congregating after being dumped from a truck! The West Carson Fish will look up at hoppers, small drakes and Baetis patterns on the surface so try some dries, too. Fish the pocket water to get away from other anglers. It fishes great with just another 10 cfs in it, watch for those days on the usgs web site. East Walker River - Flows are 100+ CFS. Look for flows to decrease. CA section: The “mile” has cooled down a little so the fishing has improved. The menu has gone back to 20s and 22s to keep it interesting. Hoppers will catch fish as well. There is a caddis hatch in the eves and even if you do not see rises, the fish will still eat them. Nevada section: The Rosachi ranch is fishing well early in the day. Try throwing hoppers, streamers and small nymphs. Little Truckee River - Flows are 45+ CFS. Nothing has really changed here. It varies by day. Crowded as usual as the flows on the BT are intimidating. Fishing with dries to very selective trout is what is up. They are eating PMDs, beetles, ants, etc. Bring your A game and have fun being challenged. Nymphing is extremely mossy! Watch for crowds! Truckee River (Ca) - Flows on the Truckee are above 162+ CFS near the town of Truckee and 477+ CFS below Boca Bridge. Look for the flows to decrease. Open above the 267 Bridge. There is less water now and mayfly hatches in the evenings should bring fish to the surface in the slower sections. The water temps are holding when the nights are cool. Hoppers are moving! Year round section below 267. The flows have come down and fishing has been great. Hopper dropper rigs are working and the fishing is starting to extend beyond the normal early shut off. Some days are on fire and some are tough. Fish with small mayfly nymphs, pheasant tails, caddis pupae and smaller streamers. The pocket water is fishable, but interesting wading still. Truckee River (Nv) - Flows on the Truckee in Nevada are 180-350+ CFS. Early morning fishery, PMD and stone hatches as well as Western Drakes. Afternoons and evenings have been producing fish with Crawdad patterns and Victor Babbit small nymphs. Tahoe Area Stillwaters: Indian Creek Reservoir – There are still plenty of fish in Indian Creek and they have stocked again! Buggers in Black, Olive and or Brown have been working well. Damsels, Blood Midges and Calibaetis as well. Fish in the channels among the weed beds. Caples Lake – There is a great midge hatch in the mornings and some nice fish eating them on some days, just not everyday. Sinking lines are working the best in and around rocky areas. Look for the inlet area to fish well as well as a few spots around the dams. Streamers, Streamers and more Streamers. A small nymph or lake nymph trailer will increase your odds. Rent a boat at Caples Lake Resort for a fun experience and fish the Emigrant Bay area. Fish will also eat the Big Terrestrial especially with rubber legs! Fish the middle of the day for good sight fishing just don’t expect numerous fish but when you do see one it is usually big! Spooner Lake - There is numerous fish in the lake! Walk the shore and look for moving damsel nymphs and put your fly in there. Leeches, Buggers, Blood Midges and Worms will work the best! Float tubing is the way to go. I think Spooner Lake has some of the best Stillwater fishing in the Central Sierra and the opportunity to catch a Tiger Trout! Enjoy your fishing! Howie Nave COMEDY FROM THE MOUNTAIN Dare I say it? Halloween hands down is my favorite holiday even if some don’t recognize it as one. Tahoe Halloween has always been a very compatible pairing I think because it’s the closest thing we have to being in the Witness Protection Program hiding behind a costume and being somebody else for a little while. Okay it doesn’t hurt that the casinos up here offer huge cash prizes for dressing up in the most unique and original costumes too. I think I just love it because it not only parallels my taste in horror movies but ticks off those that are overly religious that think Harry Potter is Satan. Where else but Tahoe can adults dress up in costumes giving the kiddies some competition in the scary department? And where else can a woman dress up as a whore passing herself off as a witch? God, I love Halloween! Speaking of all things October, Owen Benjamin marks his debut up here (and so does his dog) as Owen has finally decided that Tahoe is worth coming to. Okay, so he’s been a little busy being in movies like “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” with Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Jessica Biel, “The House Bunny” with Colin Hanks, Anna Faris and Emma Stone, “All’s Faire In Love” with Christina Ricci and “Born To Be A Star” with Nick Swardson. Owen started his comedy career in music of all things. He was taught classical piano since a child and both parents are faculty members at State University of New York, Oswego. His dad is Dr. John Kares Smith, a professor of Communication Studies and his mothe, Dr. Jean Troy Smith, is a professor of English. Pretty diverse, eh? He’s made numerous appearances on MTV’s PUNK’D, E!’s Chelsea Lately, Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham,” “The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, “ over ten appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and a regular on Nick Swardson's “Pretend Time.” He has done stand up at the Aspen Comedy Festival, Montreal Comedy Festival, a nationwide 18 city tour with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James as well as clubs and colleges across America and can finally add Tahoe to his impressive list of credits. Oh, and you can also see Owen starring on the hit TBS sitcom, “Sullivan and Sons.” But check him out October 3rd through the 7th with Frances Dilorinzo. She’s probably best known for her YouTube sensation, “Homemade Implants” which has garnered over 3 million hits! A personal fav is Allan Havey. Every Monday on my radio show (“Howie’s Morning Rush” KRLT 93-9 The Lake) Allan and I chat up movies and all things related to Hollywood in a segment called, “Howiewood & Haveywood.” Allan has done a plethora of television shows including his own talk show on Comedy Central that lasted four years. He’s also appeared on Seinfeld, Louie CK’s Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO and the short-lived, “Free Ride” on FOX Television. That show was one of my favorites because it utilized much of his improvisational skills. His ability to create in the moment landed him a spot on Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on HBO. His quick thinking abilities is what also landed him repeat appearances on Ashton Kutcher’s realitybased television show, “Punk’d.” On the big screen he has appeared in the movies “Internal Affairs” with Richard Gere, “Checking Out” with Jeff Daniels, “Rounders” with Matt Damon, “Wild Things Part 2: The Glades” with Isaiah Washington, “Hancock” starring Will Smith and again with Matt Damon in “The Informant!.” Appearing with Havey is Scott Kennedy. This guy has taken comedians over to war zones probably more times than the legendary Bob Hope. It’s been estimated that Scott has entertained close to 90,000 military personnel over the eight years he’s been there. If you count the number of times he’s brought comics to Afghanistan, Kuwait and Iraq the number now tops 60 easily. In addition to tours in the Middle East he’s entertained at other military installations around the world. On a personal note I worked with Scott (and comedian Graham Elwood) in both Kuwait and Iraq and will go over again when he asks me. Catch both Havey and Scott October 17th through the 22nd. Nick Griffin returns and just in time too because when he starts feeling uncomfortable with his surroundings Nick always has a safe place to turn to when it’s Lake Tahoe. He just finished doing his 8th David Letterman appearance and that doesn’t count his stints on Conan O’Brien and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. His very first half hour special on Comedy Central was one of that network’s more popular programs. Nick’s comedy is appreciated not just here but has been acknowledged for his work at comedy festivals in Ireland and the UK. Nick is also a very talented screenwriter. He’s written and/or co-authored numerous scripts with fellow comedian/screenwriter Mike Ferrucci. The two of them have written primarily in the horror/scifi genre with a sarcastic tone resonating within the stories. When not napping during his off time he keeps an online journal and it’s the best way to gauge his career (and his health). My favorite entry of his: “Things have been okay lately, which is huge for me, because I always expect the worst.” Performing with Nick is David Gee. If ypu didn’t catch his Showtime special this year it was great! Okay, he had one segment on the special but personally I felt he stole the show. It was called “Rita Rudner And 3 Potential ExHusbands” but let’s just say Gee would be the one Rita would have remarried. Catch Gee and Nick Halloween night through November 4. Howie Nave is the host/emcee/manager of The Improv @ Harveys every Wednesday through Sunday and also hosts his own morning show (“Howie’s Morning Rush”) on 93.9 KRLT radio Monday through Friday from 6 to 10am. He’s also on Lake Tahoe Television doing interviews with comedians and film reviews during the segment called, “Nave’s Raves.” He also writes a weekly comedy column in Action Magazine and gets the same pay as he does here whoring himself out for The Lake Tahoe Entertainer: nada. Oh yeah, his DVD, “Live From Lake Tahoe” is currently available after his shows nightly or you can order a copy on his website, www.Howienave.com and make sure you check him out on Facebook at http://www. facebook.com/howie.nave. LATE NIGHT MUSIC WITH Orgone Karl Denson & Friends Emmitt-Nershi Band The Infamous Stringdusters NVO Entertainment & Events The most rewarding part of my career is listening to people’s appreciation after a great show. It never gets old to hear people rave about one of our concerts or performances they’ve seen, or reading posts about it on Facebook. Case in point, the nearly sold-out performance of Matisyahu w/ Dirty Heads (Sept 27) was filled with fans from all over Northern California/Nevada, and a ton of locals. Even though the show was held on a Thursday and during one of the slowest times of the year, the MontBleu Theatre was packed. Matisyahu and The Dirty Heads put on a performance that blew everybody away. The energy is that room was amazing, and the aftermath of kudos and kindness from all in attendance was the best reward ever! Speaking of kudos, the swarm of people loving Illusion Fusion at the Horizon is truly amazing. The magic not only happens on-stage, but within Alex Ramon, the star of the show. His ability to connect with the audience is a gift, and as Simon Cowell would say, he has the “it” factor. This is a magical talent that truly defines the word “magic”, and since we opened the show in January of this year, more than 9,000 people have come to know and love Alex Ramon, and witnessed his talents firsthand. All you need to do is glance at the nearly 100 5-star reviews Yelp, or better yet, come see it for yourself and write your own. Join the Facebook fan page here as we give away tickets for nearly every show: www.facebook. com/IllusionFusion Alex Ramon is no stranger to the international stage and has mesmerized millions around the world., performing on 4 continents in 14 countries. He’s was the first magician in history to star as the "Magical Zingmaster" for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® circus, The Greatest Show on Earth®. Alex also toured the globe as the star of Disney Live! Ramon won the coveted “Stage Magician Of The Year”, along with other high honors such has the Lance Burton Award, and was the National Stage Magician Champion. Illusion Fusion runs 6-shows a week (dark Wednesdays). The show is suitable for people of all ages. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.TickeyFly.com , or call the Horizon, 775-588-6211. PR Entertainment is proud to announce the creator and star of Tosh.0, Daniel Tosh, will once again grace the stage at MontBleu Resort, Saturday, December 15. That’s the good news for the lake. The bad news for Daniel Tosh fans is the show sold-out in a hour the day it went on-sale. Tosh.0 is a weekly, topical series that takes on everything the Internet has to offer through comedian Daniel Tosh's sarcastic and biting point-of-view. Every week, Tosh spins commentary about blogs and vlogs both popular and obscure, tweets and pokes, popular sites and new technologies. PRE is busy working on an amazing line-up of shows for the 2012/2013 winter season. We are teaming up once again with MontBleu and Heavenly Valley to bring you that latest headline tours.
