Volume 21 Number 9 September 2010 MUSTANG MANIA Official Newsletter of the Emerald Coast Regional Mustang Club . AUGUST SHOW and SHINE A really good Show and Shine at Gary Smith Ford on Saturday, August 21 st. In and out, we had more than 19 cars show – most staying for the better part of the day. The staff at Gary Smith set us up right with some burgers, dogs, and chips and we sucked up all of their air conditioning we could. The Board of Directors and the Club officers were able to sit down and clear up a lot of lingering admin stuff and got quite a bit accomplished. We have a really busy couple of months ahead, so shine ‘em up and keep the ready to ride! Page 1 of 22 Volume 21 Number 9 September 2010 The Emerald Coast Regional Mustang Club P.O. Volume 21 Number 9 September 2010 The President’s Paddock Sherri Symons, President ECRMC#339 / MCA 73330 We have quite a few shows and cruises coming up. Please look closely at your calendars and try to make all the ones you can. Like the front page said, we had a really good show and shine Saturday and signed up three new members. Another hot day, but we were able to use the showroom and shade of the main sales building, and ended up doing alright. The anticipated trip up to Mossy Head to attend the Panhandle Opry after the Show and Shine didn’t pan out due to bad weather, but Judy & Marvin Christianson went and took a trophy for “newest car”. Friday night, Wright, Sara, Vinnie, John & I all took a ride up to Milton to try the “First Friday Milton” venue. The street reserved for the car show participants filled up, and most of the stores were open late. We had dinner at the Liberty café and then walked around the various antique shops looking like we knew what we were doing. Not too much action, but a dynamite toy store with many of the “Old” toys from some of our childhood times was a popular hit. Next month is supposed to be a larger celebration, with the fall festival scheduled. We’ll stay on top of that to see what they come up with. Saturday the 4th found the club over at the Destin Commons as invited guests of the Model A and Model T Car Club. Doug Ray led Ray & Jane, Ken, new member Kris and Katie, and John and me into the Grand Boulevard where we found Judy & Marvin waiting for us. Another hot day, but we were able to find the shade in front of the shops that left their front doors open so we could suck up some A/C and all went well. The Ft Walton car show is coming up Saturday, September 11th. Showtime for registration 8-12. Judging & Viewing 12:30-3:30 – awards at 4. The best part for the money here is the free men’s health check – Frame inspection, valve pressure, horsepower, vintage, oil inspection, radiator check, sugar in your tank, spark plug check, transmission and air filter check. All courtesy of their corporate sponsor- Ft Walton beach Medical Center. See you there. At Thursday night’s meeting, we learned that Dave Bennett, a member of our Board of Directors, will be retiring from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office after more than 28 years of service to its citizens. To honor Dave’s service, and Jean’s many sacrifices over those years, Vinney C. motioned that we schedule a retirement cruise in their honor. The motion was seconded, and with their concurrence, it was decided to take a cruise to Lambert’s Café in Foley Alabama on 25 Sep, the day after his retirement. More info in this month’s mania. Also at the meeting, we installed a new “Office” within the club. Vinnie is now known as the “Tool Master”. The purpose of the Tool Master is to be responsible for a menagerie of one-of-a-kind tools that club members find they need and can share with other club members. The club will buy some, find others, get them donated or sponsored, and the Tool Master will maintain the tools and the “corporate knowledge” needed to assist those needing it to keep their ponies on the road. We will begin to compile a list of tools and procedures and post it within the Mania and the website. Watch your emails for updated info on shows and cruises that come in after the Mania goes out. We’re trying hard to get a handle on it, and it’s coming around, slowly, but surely. More Horsepower = More Hoof beats! See you soon!
