From tbe Desk of tbe Pastor:
My Dear Friends In Cbrist!
Today, we continue our journey to the third Sunday of Advent
commonly called "Gaudate Sunday -a time to take a deep breath - still
a time of preparation, for tbe coming ofthe Christ Child! But today, we
pause to give joy that our journey of Advent Is over balf over, and we
are nearing that special moment - wben the Cbrist Child will grace our
stage. We prepare by extra prayer, possibly a little fasting, extra alms
giving, and celebrating tbe Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once.
We prepare our "tabernacle", like Mary's, to receive Him at
Cbristmas.
Tbe "rose candle", a sign that it is Gaudate Sunday, lets us know tbat
tbe time of preparation is almost over. There is a little bit of celebration
this weekend to give us the patience we need to last or endure a few
more days. Truly, "Christ bas died! Cbrist is risen! Cbrist will come
again! As tbe beautiful bymn says, "Soon and very soon ..."
In our Advent Readings, we hear tbat "Tbe desert will rejoice; this
barren world will soon be lilled witb life. The world will sbare the
bappiness of Heaven. Altbough Christ comes in true humility, He comes
to reign over His people and His Kingdom. God's people, Jerusalem, are
called to rejoice and sing. In fact, God Himself rejoices over us. God
will sing joyfully because of us - because of our extra "acts of charity."
Advent is not a time for penance per se, but rather, a time of just plain
slowing down - to be in His presence. We are told that the coming of
Christ Is a reason for joy, in anticipation of even greater joy. These last
ten days will go by so very, very rapidly ....
BENTON HARBOR. MI On Gaudate Sunday, we rejoice tbat we are now over balf way to "His
coming". We rejoice a bit for tbat Is tbe destination of our Advent
journey, namely, the destination of our earthly Journey - "His coming".
Each Advent gives us another chance to start over to make ourselves
ready and worthy for when He does come again ...." Reconciliation is
like tearing out tbose pages of our life that we don't like.... Do it!!!
"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get; it's whai you
are expected to give - which Is everytJling!"

straight the path of the Lord" for their children.

Diocese of Kalamazoo are asking for donations to the DIOCESAN HEATING
